To those referencing the Dave Steinmayer Airmen of Note version, this was originally performed by Bill Watrous and the Manhattan Wildlife Refuge big band off of their namesake album released in 1974
If you look up school spain school spectacular stage band theres this band from Australia where the 1st trombone player played all the cues (all 8va cues) it's a crazy good band
this song is truly life-changing. i dont know what it is but after playing the drumset and being able to be part of a band that perfomed this, my life was changed
I think this “promo” was recorded with the average school ensemble trombone player in mind. They could’ve probably find a guy who could record it in the upper range if they wanted. That’s probably why it was also recorded at a comfortable slower tempo.
Notice how the 1st Tbone in this recording couldn’t reach the octave ranges that Bill Watrous hit LMAO. It’s okay though. It’s REALLY tough to hit ranges like that on Tbone. Considering how big the mouthpiece is than that of a trumpet or French Horn
It could be written atonally, which means that the entire song is written without any designated key signature, and accidentals are written in wherever the chord structure needs them. Look up "Along Came Betty", it's a pretty good example. Although, I don't think Spain was originally written that way, it could be just arranged to make it easier to read for the composer or for the musicians.
Man, Chick Corea brought fun to the Jazz Band room. Rest in peace.
Let me tell ya, my teacher *is* having us play it fast as 1.25x speed. It’s hard, but I love listening to it at 1.25x
Chamberedlight - take the ball and run with it!
Band director: Everyone is important and plays a role. And we all here to have fun
Trombone part 2&3:
I was complaining about a song I play in concert band and my band teacher said "just wait until you see Spain!"
...
I'm trombone 2...

That lead trumpet part is insane, I'm pretty sure that's Wayne Bergeron playing it too
Ya it def sounds like Wayne at 1:26

Oh hey me on my other account, I actually like the airmen of note one more now, the recording with Joe eckert soloing specifically
Oh yeah I love that vid is great, that’s a high school band as well, so impressive , I did spec in 2019, so good
wow I can finally hear the flutes
that´s nothing to be glad of though
Stone Cold how so?

Great professional level arrangement. Love the soprano sax.
Man you guys have been uploading all of the best arrangements you have! Love it!
That’s a tough 1st bone part lol
if you´re properly trained, it isn´t that hard...
I looooove the solo though
@@Thomas-vc9gv not quite a student chart though, double Fb
this was the arrangement recorderd on the "Manhattan Wildlife Refuge" record by Bill Watrous
@@larrysfinger648 I love bill watrous
Cowardly lead trombone on this recording
Agreed! Gotta own it!
Best arrangement I’ve heard so far
I'm 1st Trumpet on this, pray for me.
Good luck dude
How is it?
@@bysuke- A nightmare. My fellow trumpets continue to laugh at me having to suffer.
@@nijaethompson7647 do you play the double Gs?
@@bysuke- God knows I try, lol.
Play it at 1.25x speed and you get close to the Airmen of Note version
best version
I love it at this speed
Now this is a grade 5.
Cool! But I'm really missing Dave Steinmeyer's trombone ad-lib at the end.
Freshman year, 1st bone part, im gonna die real quick
Don't worry, you aren't alone.
RIP
If it makes you feel better, the first trumpet also has to suffer.
I played trombone back in the 90s, without this great tool, I wonder how you did.
How ever you ARE AMAZING. Congratulations.
dang this piece is a banger, I wonder if my school Jazz band have played this, especially since it sounds super familiar
This really reminds me of the version Dave Steinmeyer and The Airmen of Note did
It actually is that version! I just played the 1st bone part with my jazz band and it’s insane.
we're playing a different arrangement of this in hs jazz band tomorrow wooooooooooo
OOHHH MAN!!!!! THIS IS OF THIS SOLAR SISTEM... JUST 10 + 1 WITH PRAISE!!!!

bone 4 is absolutely fire at the end where lead trumpet is going off
Played sax for this , so fun to play 🎉
I don't even see why there needs to be an Alto 1 and 2 part if the Flute and Sop Sax take up the majority
Essw é Um som muito agradável que nos faz balançar
Fun Fact: There’s actually a lyric version look it up it’s really good!
Trombone 2 and 3 crying in sadness
So airmen just 8va the 2,3 and fourth part for trumpets
Yes and it sounds sexy
1:44 is when solos start (self reminder)
Everyone complaining about the trumpet and trombone but what about the bass part at full speed
Why is the Soprano Sax solo part cut, what blasphemy

I wanna play this on alto and flute so badly after hearing it sucks that theres so much rests though
Yo I am happy I am doing 2nd alto for this
Trying to sightread piano on this is absolute torture
2:01 you know the transition there would be better to understand if you didn't cut right into the sixeight part right off the bat.
dang the lower opt on tbn 1 😢
Hey I’m playing that
The airmen of note version is 144 bpm
Socastee is playing the light as a feather version rn. The whole band loves it.
I'll play the 2:01 solo but I can't make myself so this cutting is very cruel for me ><
Spain is far cool song, I haven't have mistake...
swag messiah
Playing this on flute in 8th grade😭😭
En que link se pueden comprar estas colecciones pdf+mp3 online...??
This Should be Grade 6 or 5.5 at least
Is first alto playable
rip chick 😔
Im pretty sure the tempo should be a lot faster than this, it kinda jusf feels like it's dragging the whole time
Put this in 1.25 speed you’re welcome
1.25x honestly ruins it.

should’ve been in B minor 😤
Why? (If your only reason is that it's the original key, think of a better reason before answering.)
Rikard Peterson Original key ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
RivasJazz7b9 lol
RivasJazz7b9 concert B is a pretty tough key to work in considering they’re writing in almost all B flat instruments
Isn’t the original Spain in F minor?
