    Just a suggestion but try using coconut oil for pre-pooing/detangling on dry hair before cleansing your hair. Coconut oil is what is known as a penetrating oil meaning that is actually does seep into your hair's cuticles going into the inner cortex of your hair. Coconut oil is *not* a good "sealing" oil b/c of this property but it does make it good for revitalizing the hair with healthy triglycerides (a type of fat molecule) that helps protects the hair from physical damage as well as hydro-fatigue. Olive oil is also another great penetrating oil. For sealing oils/products (will only coat, not be absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin and hair) use jojoba oil, caster oil, hair grease, and shea butter. Jojoba oil chemically/structurally closely matches human sebum (the oils naturally produce by our skin and nails), so that along with castor oil due to its heavy texture are my favorite sealing oils. Hair grease (aka mostly petroleum) is also great at sealing hair as well. Almond oil is nice for hair as it is has both penetrating and sealing properties (it's not as penetrative as coconut and olive oil and doesn't lock it down and seal like jojoba and hair grease but it is light in texture and softens the hair. I like to use it to touch up my hair during mid-week refreshes or when styling it in general.

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think 4c hair is daunting when people try to do 5 hours on wash day. My weekly wash day is 30 minutes pre-poo, 5 minutes shampoo, 30 minutes deep condition and 20 minutes steam leave in's (this step is recommended by my trichologists) and 10 mins detangle and style in two or three. French braids. If I'm in a rush I skip the pre-poo and leave in steam. Because I detangle every week, I do not have a huge amount of tangles. I also style my hair in a way to reduce tangles.

    • @orokonaboba7157
      @orokonaboba7157 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's so true 4c hair is a lot of work that sometimes I just wanna cut my hair off ugh. I give birth to a daughter and she have same type of hair as me and she hates when I do her hair doesnt matter if I use detangler spray to soften her hair.

I never understood my hair or learned how to wash and moisture it (live in a majority white town) never knew what products to get or where to get them. But since I discovered your channel on Monday it really helped me and also inspired me to go for the big chop so I can start all over. Excited to go super short.

    4c hair is challenging in the beginning and my issue has always been retaining length but I am all about health first so I am not pressed about length. It is just hair to me. I am so so proud of myself for finding a routine for me and dedicating that day to myself. Girl I do my hair, nails, feet thats me time I always dedicate an entire day to me! I do all of these things and I just got a big trim I needed a fresh fresh start had alot of uneven stragly ends with a long ass tail in the back. I told home girl to chop it off and I will let it flow and grow. Growing your hair is always easy retaining length whilst keeping it healthy can be challenging at times. Cut them ends!!!! If you are tired of all those steps, take a shower at a separate time than when you're dealing with your hair. You don't have to stay uncomfortable in the shower, wet, tired, with oils from your hair on your back and body. No! Don't shower while taking care of your hair. You'll be better equipped to spend time on it if you're not bugged down by being naked and wet.

    Low porosity hair should always use heat when deep conditioning. It helps to open up the hair cuticles / shaft, so the hair can accept whatever you're putting on it. Also combing your hair while it's still soaking wet leads to breakage. Natural hair is it's most fragile when it soaking wet and extremely dry(dry as in no moisture and or lubrication for the hair strands) . It's better to detangle the hair ( in my opinion and from what I saw a licensed cosmetologist recommend ) when it's coated in an oil that penetrates the hair and lubricates the strands. I've tried this method and have had way, way less hair come out while I'm detangling my hair. I'll comb my hair when it's damp with product in it but never soaking wet. Not anymore at least.

    You’re looking so cute! I just started using avocado oil sometimes mixed with castor oil to seal the moisture. When I say game changer! Hair stays moisturized so much longer. I just learned to remoisturize before it gets completely dry too. The breakage has practically stopped altogether! I used to moisturize after wash routine only and my hair would be shedding and breaking by day 3. I swear by avocado oil

      Depending on the length and your type of hair. I have 4c hair porosity super fine strands. Once I keep the water and my hair flowing in one direction forward or back I don't get too many tangles. This however does not work for a lot of people. Some do 6 twists in all and some use clips. I've done it before and I don't think it made things harder.

      I did that once, before my big chop. It took me over an hour. I am not doing that again. I felt like my arms were going to come off. So I detangle before I wash and when I condition and deep condition. I personally lose less hair that way, but do what works best for you.

    • @TheDaneyeledee
      @TheDaneyeledee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I put my hair in 4 sections and detangle in the shower with a detangling comb. Each section takes less than 5 minutes and my hair is long. The trick is to keep the water constantly flowing on your hair; makes it easier to get the tangles out

    I love the channel "22nd century natural woman". She has a tight texture (don't know about 4c, though) and super long hair. I don't believe for one minute it can't be done. But I see a lot of people with 4c hair trimming all the time (dusting, but it's more like taking an inch off every 2 months). That's the reason it's not growing right there. Hair only grows 6 inches a year, if you trim too much, there goes all that growth! You don't have to trim the entire head if you have a couple splits, there is such a thing as the search and destroy method ("S&D method"). You take that split and cut above it, and you go through the hair like that. No need for a trim at all.
