    I love micro machines I'm 11 years old and I collect the vintage stuff. The vintage micro machines are like the first 3 Diary of a wimpy kid movies.
    The new ones are like the 4th movie.

      Nice, glad to see someone so young collecting vintage stuff!
      My comparison would be similar but with Star Wars movies!

    I was excited to buy some, then I saw them in the store. The new cars look cheap, limited sculpted detail and almost no paint. The small size was only part of the appeal to me when I was a child. Detail was the other part. Hasbro is cheap.

      Well said! It's lucky that people like us aren't the target consumers. Young people have lower standards 😄

    Here in Hungary, it wasn't easy to get a new micro machine back at the '80s- '90s. I was always dreamed to get some, but I only had a few used one, from a friend whose Father was a truck driver and worked abroad. Now as an adult, I follow my dreams. I bought my favorites as a NOS ön ebay, and I also bought the new van city Amazon edition to my children. The old ones are much much cooler than the new ones, my boys arealso agree with it.

      Great to hear your story Márton. I forget how lucky we were in the UK to have access to all these toys when we were kids. Glad you finally got what you wanted!

    This was useful. I saw them on Amazon, and they looked cheap. Its sad that they're just passing cheap tat against this IP

      Thanks. Good to know! I honestly wouldn't say they are tat as they are fairly well built but sadly lacking in many areas. Your money will be better spent on eBay buying vintage ones!

    I definitely feel like the only person not caring about these not being based on real cars.

    • @ThatWasRad
      @ThatWasRad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be! 😁
      For me it's only because I grew up with the old ones and not having licensed cars makes them worse! I might feel different if the old ones didn't exist.

    • @StingJay
      @StingJay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't care A LOT about the fact that they aren't based off from real cars but that paired with the lack of any details that make them "WOW" is where I lose all appeal. I had high Hopes when I heard they were coming out with re release but the company did what companies do... get greedy. They said "how can we make money" instead of "how can we make something REALLY COOL that people will want to buy". It seems like in the past companies wanted to please their customers and now companies want to screw their customers and make the most money that the least amount of work can accomplish, no passion and no pride or "job satisfaction" the word I was really looking to use here escapes me. I truly had hoped to see some unique features or minimally just use some of the old features like lights or sounds or details

    I definitely agree with you on this stuff. I have no problem with the new ones, but the quality is just obviously worse than the originals. One thing I really don't like on the new ones though, is all of them, even the trucks have the same goofy giant chrome wheels, and it just looks ridiculous. There was so much more variety with the old wheels, and although those ones still weren't in scale, they looked a lot more realistic.

    • @ThatWasRad
      @ThatWasRad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% agree. Those wheels are nasty!

  • @themidlandconnection
    @themidlandconnection 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One major thing they could do is shrink the rim design down on some of the vehicles, particularly the non sports car ones, small change could go a long way to make them mesh a bit nicer with what we used to have

    I have a small shoebox rammed full of classic MMs.
    They’re the best IMO, I carry an eye glass with me when hunting so I can look for the all important Galoob markings.
    I did buy one new MM set and that was the Bugattis.

    They have some series not that are based on real cars, like the GM Icons series. They do look clean compared to the 80's Micro Machines, but so do most toys nowadays. I don't think it's a bad thing, as long as the build quality is at least on par with the Galoob version.

  • @sseltrek1a2b
    @sseltrek1a2b 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    nice comparison video...totally agree that the older ones have a lot more detail...also- the Hasbro Star Wars line is way worse than the original Galoob releases (they look like junk in comparison)...

    Random Note 📝:
    There are some metallic versions coming up. Although I’ve heard their gonna be rare chase collectibles. Also there are some cars not shown in that leaflet for some odd reason.
    For me, I oddly don’t mind them not being based on real cars. Probably because I’ve been looking at certain Transformers figures lately. They mostly use imaginary cars based on real ones for the most part there. With some exceptions like the Bug cars for Bumblebee. Hopefully they get some licensed cars later on for these newer Micro Machines.

    Never re-release or try to follow behind something so successful if you cannot do it right. The old 90s micro machines had built in circuitry, flashing lights and sounds, very intricate detail, and like this guy said they were based off from existing vehicles so you could see it next to the real thing and say "wow! Look how realistic this toy looks!!" As a kid that's the most amazing thing to play with "LOOK, ITS A REAL CAR!!"now it's a cheap .. toy. The reason micro machines were so successful is because of the unique and intricate details they put into their vehicles... I was excited to hear that they were coming out with micro machines and I was hoping they would be even more awesome with newer technology available but I am completely disappointed. I always wondered why manufacturers didn't pick up where micro machines left off, there is a lot of money to be made making really cool collectable toys like this, not only will kids BEG their parents for them but collectors will buy them by the cases. It's a real shame that they didn't do the re release correctly

    As much as I adore the detail and the coolness of the cars of old, I can't help but wonder how 7 year-old me would react. I'd probably lean towards the newer ones because they look like they'll roll and play a lot better than the 80s/90s era ones. Then again, I grew up with the mid-00's series, so I might be biased there, haha

    • @ThatWasRad
      @ThatWasRad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good way of looking at it. They are kids toys and kids like different things to 30 somethings like me! I'm sure a bunch of user research was done by Jazwares and Hasbro into what kids wanted.

  • @FluffyTheGryphon
    @FluffyTheGryphon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My biggest issue with them is the fact they don't have a base coat of paint. I feel like doing a base coat would do a lot to bring them up to par with the originals and do away with the cheapo plastic look they currently have. Minor details aside they don't look bad. They just need some TLC. The wheels are bit off, though, too. I think the "donk" look has passed out of style by 2020 and needs to be put to rest. Great video all around.

    • @ThatWasRad
      @ThatWasRad  3 ปีที่แล้ว
