The moment Cheedo announced that Joe is dead was when Nux realized that his "god" is truly a mere mortal, but he still chose to die to save his friends on his own volition. That's a nice development.
Yeah, it’s a fantastic scene, everything from the brute “Rictus Erectus” shouting his own name/preforming a superhuman feat of strength by ripping that burning v8/v10/v12 engine out of the very war-rig he’s standing upon, just to spite his enemy, To the look on Nux’s face, when he sees the flames (and especially being a “black thumb” recognizes the implications of the incident moments before the average individual might), he’s no longer proud and awaiting his moment in “Valhalla”, but instead commits his greatest act of heroism, looking resigned to his fate and sad if only that he didn’t have a little more of his “half-life” to spend with the friends he made along the way 😢 Definitely died “historic”
That is the culmination of Nux's character arc. He started out wanting nothing more than a glorious death to please the master of the death cult to which he belonged. However, after being shown affection and kindness he realized that life was worth living, no matter how short, and rejected the death cult's ideals. However, at the moment when he's ready to start his life anew with Capable, Rictus takes that away from him. And so, his final, choked out "witness me" is one of pain and sadness. This is no longer what he wants most, but it's what he must do. And as a result, Nux finally enters Valhalla, shiny and chrome.
@@samsonhaze6595 he ripped off its blower, which isnt the engine block itself. also looks like this one was literally just a big fan poorly bolted onto a hood which should kinda work but its still not exactly top of the line mechanic work. still seems like a fitting strength feat for someone of his size just nothing superhuman.
Nux's death is legendary. Vallhalla is achieved to those worthy deemed by the Valkyries, the mythical warrior-women of Norse legend who witnessed battles and chose the worthy among the fallen to become Odin's Einherjars. Beautiful poetry that both the War-Boys mythos of V-8 and the Vuvalini's teachings line up perfectly. The Vuvalini teach the act of taking in the fallen into their hearts, symbolically the role of the Valkyrie preserving and redeeming fallen warriors at the moment of witnessing or learning of their demise. War-boys scream "Witness me!" but it is only Nux who is witnessed, as Capable, Cheedo, and one of the Vuvalini observe his final act of heroism. Through Capable's gesture, he is preserved by their way and kept in their hearts in memories (at least Capable's). In the end, Nux was the only one who achieved the Vallhalla he and his fellow warboys so desperately desired. But so beautifully: Nux's last words are not the reckless abandon of hopeless souls, surrendering their lives out of sheer desperation to leave their mark in a doomed world. Nux realized he had something to live for - saw the honest hope in the future, in spite of tumor-riddled condition. He did not shout or scream. His words were a broken, forlorn, miserable plea, full of grief and (understandable) fear. He knew what had to be done, and he knew that had gotten everything he would have wanted, but how he spoke those words strike as the perfect refutation of the cult of martyrdom and abandon that served as the thematic antagonist for the movie. Valhalla is something to be sought, yes - but living is so much more glorious. To see Nux change from the broken, maniacally sucidal soul from the start of the film, and to see his final moments full of grief and sadness - is the prefect way to conclude his story and Fury Road's most pivotal themes.
There is no glory in ending your life to kill others to get out of a miserable life -- but to sacrifice yourself for others just as you've finally found something worth living for is something else...
The way that its meaning changes in this final moment. It isn't a "go out in a blaze of glory" phrase. It's a "please witness and remember the sacrifice I choose to make for you." And he isn't saying it for a father figure (Joe), but to a mother figure (Capable). There's so much subtext in the film, it's amazing.
A lot of people that criticize this movie don’t seem to see the big picture. I think this film is one that needs to be experienced more than just watched. Everything about this scene alone is part of what made this movie so phenomenal. Nux went from a delirious warboy with an infatuation with Immortan Joe to a hero within 2 hours and it didn’t feel rushed at all. The little detail about the seeds and going forward with life by going backwards and reevaluating the meaning of ‘home’ is just outstanding. Add the bad ass soundtrack and the outstanding acting and we have this iconic scene. This movie also managed to deliver an amazing social commentary on multiple real world issues and none of them seemed out of place or felt convoluted. Thank you George Miller for this film. Just wow
When I saw this at the cinema, I sat down for the previews and started to get pissed because everyone was talking and rustling potato chip packets and looking at their phones and I was like no no I've waited DECADES for this you animals... and then the film started and within 3 minutes the whole audience was dead silent and stayed that way until the credits rolled.
But are we going to talk about how bittersweet the death of Keeper of Seeds was? She kicked ass for the short time we had her, she was a good granny figure, and I hated the fact that she had to go. At least she died both peacefully, and knowing her legacy would live on.
The actor who plays the Keeper of Seeds is Melissa Jaffer, who like half the cast in this film is an absolute icon of 1970s/80s/90s Australian TV (and some films). For me she'll always be horrible "Aunty Lorna" from Mother & Son, to others she's Dr Riordan from GP, and to other still she's like half the characters in A Country Practice (actually only three, but... still!).
“The roles that one is offered at this age, quite frankly, you’re either in a nursing home, you’re in a hospital bed dying, you’re suffering from dementia,” says actress Melissa Jaffer, who plays one of the elder surviving road-warrior women. “So when this role came along, I thought well, I won’t get another chance like this before I die, and that’s why I took it. It was absolutely wonderful.”
0:52 that seed moment always warms my heart. It's like The Dag promising her that in the middle of that ruthless, cruel wasteland something new is gonna be plant and grow and that woman's death be in vain. After all, they will grow up The Green Place with Many Mothers by themselves.
The Keeper of the Seeds died looking happy as she remembered that last promise from Dag, which would not be broken. "This is a story of hope" are also words from Led Zeppelin.
Also the seeds are a perfect symbol of the Wifes of Inmortan Joe, that they have grrown pure and good in a cruel wasteland. They, as much as the seeds, are the key to bringing back a better world again

It breaks my heart because I think Nux for the first time in his life found something to live for, but knew that to keep it alive he had to die for it. We could analyze this to death, but at the end of the day none of us would be so bold to face death head on. May we all be witnesses to what sacrifice truly looks like.
Tha moment when Nux locks eyes with Rictus Erectus and truly sees the pointless nihilism of “dying historic on the Fury Road”, and finally knows what it means to die for something greater than yourself, not the false religion of “I Live I Die I Live Again” but a real hope of a green future and people who will see it through
What hit me the most here, is that the big dude, one of the big villains, didn't die in a super epic death. He just "fell off the truck" in the most unspectacular way possible, the whole scene was about Nux' sacrifice instead. About him completing his arc and finally getting free from Joe's brain washing. I think he was gutted by the death of Joe too. His despair at the realisation that the lord he'd worshipped his whole life was gone his him hard. Him making that sacrifice was made easier by the grief, I think.
How is this film so amazing? The film is really just a car chase with sparse dialogue. It shouldn't be this good, but Miller made an undeniable cinematic masterpiece
His last “witness me” is so much more than the ignorance of youth wastefully throwing their lives away. His witness was fully aware of a better life w better people, but giving it all up for those better people. The mature sacrifice is much greater than the youthful ignorant one.
No amount of epic scenes in this movie will ever make up for the fact that they killed Grandma. I don't know how she got from present day Moiya to future earth, and lost her forehead eye, but her death is a travesty.

What I love about the Mad Max series, is that because of health and safety rules, all vehicles have brand new tyres. Amazing.
Daaaang..How come i was REALLY looking forward to an explosion in the end XD
One of the most legendary sacrifices of all time
If you look up the word "epic" in the dictionary, there should just be a link to 1:57 in this video. I don't think you really need words to explain the meaning of epic when you have a scene like this...
Edit: 2:10 could work as well... Lmfao!
I think he was gutted by the death of Joe too. His despair at the realisation that the lord he'd worshipped his whole life was gone his him hard. Him making that sacrifice was made easier by the grief, I think.
@@marcuswalters8093 Obviously.
As fitting as it is.
Ride of the rohirim is still my definition of the word epic
i witness you Nux, i witness you
Nux was awesome. How he grew from a mere average cultist to a man who protected his woman.
I love how Rictis rips out the engine just to scream his own name aloud before splatting on the ground
Well, if you want to go to Valhalla, you gotta do something badasd
I knew the moment Max DIDN'T throw the copium chad off the ride after beating him, he'd come back and someone from the good side would die.
Max didn't have much time to save Furiosa. He caught her just before she would have been pulled under the wheels.
Future Australian documentary...
Ride eternal, Nux...
Shiny & chrome...
OH jeeeez, this clip make me want to see this movie again.
2:14 in that moment rictus knew, he fucked up..
Never thought a lifeless rig going off track would make me feel so emotional. Thank you George Miller and Junkie X.
“Oh, what a day… What a lovely day!”
This soundtrack is absolutely perfect...
2:00 i remember watching this with my dad also WHY DOES EVERYONE I HOPE DOSNT DIE IN A MOVIE DIE
Was so epic in theaters one of those films u wish u could forget to watch for first time again.
How is this film so amazing? The film is really just a car chase with sparse dialogue. It shouldn't be this good, but Miller made an undeniable cinematic masterpiece
Thanatoast, LMAO
This is cinema...cinema isn't just dialogue, it is also mainly visual. A picture says a thousand words.
This movie is so good for so many reasons
...Metal. As. Fuck!
The most Metal film I've ever seen, literally and musically.
This movieis embedded in my head .. the top 2 best action movies of all time
He probably didn't, but someone still could survive a crash like that with some luck.
This should’ve had an Oscar for best cinematography.
mad max fury road
the revenant
best movies in 2015!!!
One of the top five of my all time favorite movies. Just outstanding in so many ways.
Top five best ever films.
Which are the others?
No matter how good it is, still only count as one.
Quite possibly my favorite movie ever
the most heartbreaking scene of the movie
Dystopian future at its finest ! Best movie in the genre ! Hell , I'd venture to say best ever .
His last “witness me” is so much more than the ignorance of youth wastefully throwing their lives away.
His witness was fully aware of a better life w better people, but giving it all up for those better people. The mature sacrifice is much greater than the youthful ignorant one.
gay
Nux certainly earned his place in Valhalla, went out like a true hero.
He could have at least checked the rings while he was up there since he had the engine apart anyway.
This movie was so much better than I anticipated, which kicked ass cuz I love the originals...
"Witness Me"
This is my favorite action movie of all time.
The best scene is the one where Scarecrow, the Tin man and the cowardly lion fall asleep in the poppy field.
One of the greatest to enter the halls of Valhalla for sure...
No amount of epic scenes in this movie will ever make up for the fact that they killed Grandma. I don't know how she got from present day Moiya to future earth, and lost her forehead eye, but her death is a travesty.
now this is how you do a climactic action sequence
1:57 how you're looking at your friend when they clock and you're on a double
Nux isn't the hero we deserved. He was the hero we needed.
Ride eternal, shiny and chrome, brother.
I think with a Lot of luck Nux could have survived it
The editing alone in this movie blows my mind.
Stunning. Gives me goosebumps every time
This whole movie is a work of art.
I think it would be cool if she said "witness me"
Just wanted to add, "Where did the tuba come from?"
Thought the same thing myself!
1:01 omg! It's the grandma from Benidorm! Frigg off!
