What a privilege to interview the poet herself. And she was so reluctant to reveal the truth behind the mysterious full-stop. 😹 Nonetheless, impressive lady.
Genuinely really interesting. I’d be lying if I said I loved poetry and English because although I worked hard (and yes I’ve already done my GCSEs) I never really enjoyed writing about things. My brain, being more into maths always works formulaically so before going into exams I’d almost have a formula for answering. However, I never really used that and ideas would always end up flowing onto the page. I didn’t even take power and conflict for poetry, I actually did love and relationships, but nevertheless I really thought what she had to say about Kamikaze was powerful. Funnily enough, I think my most formulaic answer was the poetry one, and because it didn’t flow as well I thought I thought I hadn’t done as well. But in the end I managed to make English lit my best subject overall, ahead of maths which is what I want to pursue a career in eventually. Somehow, and I don’t know how, I got 154/160 across both English lit papers, picking up 94 marks on paper 2. So I’d like to thank you Mr Bruff because there’s no way I’d have got what I got if it wasn’t for your videos. The weekend before paper 2 I remember just sitting at the computer watching all your poetry videos, then again the night before the exam. Whilst I’m here, because it’s likely I won’t watch many of your videos seen as I’m completely finished with English (I’ll stay subscribed though), I’d also like to thank you for for my English language as well. It was my third best subject overall, percentage wise behind English lit and maths, but the highest percentage marks above the required grade boundary for a 9 out of all my grades (and I know it sounds as if I’m boasting because I did get all 9s but really I just want to thank Mr Bruff so please no one be annoyed at me ) as I got 143/160, gaining 76 marks out of 80 in paper 1. Going into my GCSEs, I would happily taken an 8 in both English lit and language and they 2 of my 3 predicted grades of an 8. So it’s not like I expected to be anywhere near a 9, especially in English lit which I thought was the subject which may cause me to get all but one grade 9s. I think some of my best reactions/facial expressions in my life were when I found out how I’d done in English aha. But yeah, just thank you so much Mr Bruff, because without you, I think it would’ve been impossible to get the outcomes I got, so I just hope that in the future you can inspire and tutor more people like you did with me.
Hi sir, this was really useful as an insight into the writer's intention, thank you! Would it be possible for you to do an interview with the other contemporary poets in the anthology too (Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, Carol Rumens)?
She sounded lovely when talking about the poam in a wonderful voice. I also liked listening to the exture bits as well. There is no right or Rong answer in life. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🏆💙🐟
Sir, what happened to your Farmers Bride video for AQA love and relationships poems? I remember you did a video with another english teacher but i cant seem to find it?

Game changer - just no substitute for a chat with the poet! Nice one Mr Bruff, shame we can't get you talking to Shelley and Blake! Thanks for this.
She came to my school 2 years ago to talk about kamikaze

Thank you so much for the videos you made for last year exams. They made the difference in my revision and at the end I managed to get an A*(8).
