Damn - that was fun. Trying to learn to play a RAV, by myself, in a 'bubble' (TH-cam demos and tutorials like these)... and you've just expanded mine. Thank you.
Hi Amy! Great video tutorial - thank you. Question for you: as you go around the handpan to the higher notes, what’s the fingering for the higher note/shoulder/ding pattern? I’m finding it awkward to maintain the thumb/pointer/middle combination. Or are you only playing the ding when playing the lowest note? Does that make sense? Thanks much for advising! Syl
Hey Syl! Thanks for watching 👍 great question. Yes, I'm using the same combination: thumb, pointer, middle, but it is a little trickier to maintain since you have to shift your hand position slightly to line up with the notes as they curve around the pan. Once you've practiced that a bit it might get easier. So this is one of those decision-making moments: does this feel like a good thing for you to practice to get comfortable with that combo, or can you find your own way of achieving the same goal that works better for you? While I might suggest a particular way of playing things that works for me, the ultimate goal is to make sure you're playing in a way that is sustainable for you ☺️
I run a weekly Sunday workshop on Zoom, 7pm UK time. It is paused now though for the spring summer. We return in Autumn. If you're interested in joining the mailing list to be invited, you can here: forms.wix.com/r/7020088010746102746
