    Appreciates for such a nice tutorial. I would like to ask which type of component I need to choose for reinforcement coupler? Do I need to prefer connection as it connects 2 rebars or Part? Thanks in advance.

    HELLO DO YOU KNOW THAT IN THE PERSONALIZED COMPONENTS THERE IS A TAB THAT IS CALLED PARAMETERS OF THE MODEL HOW DOES THAT WORK IN THE MODEL? IS IT TO MAKE PARAMETRIC MODELS WITHOUT HAVING TO ENTER THE PERSONALIZED COMPONENTS? OR IS THERE A LINK OF BOTH THINGS?

    I'm trying to make a custom connection between a column and a beam, and it works for a set of columns, but when i try it on other columns, the connection is either oriented differently or positioned differently--for example, it'll drop in inside the web instead of at the bottom of the beam's flange. Is there a way to make it so the connection drops in how I want it every time instead of exploding it and remaking the connection?

      You can try to use different settings on the position tab when you create the component - for instance collision plane vs box plane, but for total control of part location you should use bindings as shown in another video - th-cam.com/video/e-cXZgMK24c/w-d-xo.html

    I'm trying to make a custom component out of a plate to connect a beam to an L beam. I used a seam connection to do this. But when I make the connection, it will not behave like a normal connection where when you adjust the lengths of a beam, the connected beam will move with it like an assembly. i also tried to make a weld between the pieces beforehand and then make the seam connection, but it doesn't make a difference. Any advice?

      Hi Declan, the seam gets inserted with handles, so the handles will govern the position to some extent. You would have to have them move as well, perhaps with bindings inside the normal model space.

      @@TrimbleTeklaDave i still seem to be having trouble. do you think a seam is the wrong approach for the connection between two horizontal beams, or do you think i should be using some other connection type?

      @@declanbardin8245 If the beams intersect, then I would use a 'connection' type component. Seam if they are parallel and you are creating new parts between them.

      @@TrimbleTeklaDave thank you for the advice and for your time. with some trial and error, i figured out that using a detail was able to keep the part connected to the main part so it would stay connected and move with the main part.

    It took me a while to figure this out, since it was not said before hand, but the component you create and modify needs to be exploded before you create a new custom component, or you get "connection already exists" and it will not create.

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave

      Hi Dee, depending on the situation, if you use that 'allow multiple instances' option on the advanced tab, you will not run into that problem. If you are trying to make a nested component (component inside of a custom component) it is best if you add it after creation, in the custom component editor. This especially is true if you have a system component in place beforehand, you may get the error message you are getting.

    Hi, thanks a lot for your videos, not only this one, all videos! A question. I've created a component, connection type, beam to column connection component where column on its top stucks to a beam, specifically it's a situation where rainwater discharge gutter is mounted to (lays on) a column. This connection component is asymmetrical so it has to be adjusted always(!!) in the same position/direction. But it seams that my connection-component detects its default position according to the beam ends (gutter ends) and analysing it he takes one or opposit/mirrored position. (Excuses for my English, it's not my native language). This situation is very easy to observe when dragging the bean (gutter) start of end point (handle) closer to or more away from my connection-component. While it MUST stay always in the same position. How to fix it? How can I make my component to keep its position always the same not paying attention if my gutter is getting longer or shorter? Thanks a lot!

    • @victorstrembitskiy7171
      @victorstrembitskiy7171 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aha, experimentally I see that if I recreate my component and assign gutter as main part and column as secondary part then in this situation it works as need it to work. So means that for proper working of a component (type connection) the supporting part not nessesarly must be assigned as a main part, in some cases it must be specifically visaversa.

    • @TrimbleTeklaDave
      @TrimbleTeklaDave 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@victorstrembitskiy7171 Yes, you can reverse the main/secondary part at times if you need to - especially since the component tends to orient itself to the secondary, and as you found, it can cause your parts to move. If that works for you, then stick with it. Another option for particularly stubborn components is to use a Seam type instead, because you can pick two insertion handles and bind the parts to that plane in the component editor.

      @@victorstrembitskiy7171 When you make a new custom component, you can choose from Connection, Detail, Seam, or Part. So far you are using 'Connection'. Instead try to use a 'Seam'. The creation/insertion is a little different. You pick the two parts, then also pick two points to set orientation. It's just a different insertion method for a component. I only use these if nothing else is working - I usually reverse the main/secondary part first, like you did.

      @@TrimbleTeklaDave seam instead of connection, okey this is clear so far. But in one of your video's (yes I watch them all :-)) you sais that seam is to be used for parallel parts that are not coliding and in my case my two parts (stanchion and rainwater discharge gutter on it) ARE coliding, that's why I choose connection type :-)))))

      Hi did you try only clicking one point and then finish the creation already? It should work that way since 2nd point is not always necessary.
