My wife and I are expecting our daughter in June, we’re going crazy trying to find a non toxic breathable mattress, this mattress has consistently come up in my search
Of course! Here is the link to Newton Baby's website with the waterproof version we have: www.newtonbaby.com/products/waterproof-crib-mattress. I had also included a link to purchase it from Amazon in the video description if you'd prefer to go that route!
I worry that the core material is too "squishy" especially when the baby gets into toddler stages. Will the babies & toddlers kind of sink into this mattress and does it get dented in spots where the child usually sleeps? Thanks!
Great question! We didn’t have any sinking or denting issues until our daughter started jumping on the mattress! For regular sleep, the Newton held up well! Hope this helps!
@@DadNamedMac Thank you it does help! My daughter jumps on her mattress, if my new baby does the same in a couple years would this make the mattress stop being usable? Do you guys feel like you need to get a new mattress now if your daughter jumps or does it bounce back pretty well?
If we have another, I think we would probably get a new mattress as ours does have a bit of an indent as we let the jumping go on too long! Our initial plan was to buy a cheaper mattress for our toddler to substitute in after she outgrew the Newton. We didn’t get around to it in time, but I would recommend that to preserve the integrity if you plan to use it for multiple children! I’ll note, the quality of the Newton is great if used properly!
@@DadNamedMac Oh that makes total sense. Thank you so much for the video and I really appreciate your responses, as you know it’s so stressful on this mattress searching process!
Hello thank you for your detail review. It’s very helpful. Do you still use extra waterproof cover with it to avoid stains or directly using it with a fitted bed sheet?
We put a fitted sheet over the entire mattress assembly (including the waterproof cover) now that we have a toddler! For the full breathability as designed, the mattress should be used without any sheets so just keep that in mind for infants!
Im so late i just found your video💙 I have a question does the mattress and mattress cover have a smell to it? I’ll just got one and mine has like a plasticky smell to it but I’m not sure if that’s normal. Thank you (:
Glad you found it! I don’t recall there being a smell but it could just be from the packaging! It should go away in a day or two but definitely never had a lasting smell! Hope this helps!
@@DadNamedMac Thank you so much for replying, mine definitely has a very strong smell I’m goin to try to talk to newton. Thank you so much 🙂 and thank you for your video.
So only the toddler side is waterproof? Can you just put the cover on the other way if you want the waterproof side on the firmer infant side of the mattress?
Hi! Thanks for the question! The mattress cover that comes with the waterproof style is what actually determines the 'toddler' vs. 'infant' side. The wovenaire polymer mesh mattress is the same consistency/firmness throughout. The waterproof side of the cover has an additional waterproof liner that is quilted in under 2 layers of breathable material so while it is still breathable, Newton recommends the unhindered infant side of the cover be used during the first 12 months of baby's life. The infant side is water-resistant and the whole cover is easily washable for messes but it does help having an extra cover if you need a quick late night swap (we have one extra)! Hope this helps!
Yes, you can breathe through both sides just fine! Newton recommends waiting to use the waterproof side until your child is one year old to ensure max breathability for infants though. Hope this helps!
For infants, it's recommended to not use a sheet to ensure the mattress breathability. However, once your baby is able to roll over, using a Newton crib mattress sheet is fine! We use a Newton sheet on ours now and it is definitely still breathable but we didn't use one for probably the first year of use! Hope this helps!
Thanks for watching! I don’t remember seeing the SafeSleep mattress on the market at the time we bought ours but I would be interested in doing a comparison if I can get my hands on one!
Hi! Definitely not a dumb question! You do not NEED crib sheets for the mattress and Newton actually recommends no crib sheets on the mattress for your baby's first year of life to maximize the breathability! We added one for comfort once our daughter was a little older. Hope this helps!
Wait.. can you explain… when you do and when you don’t use a crib sheet? It looks like your daughter doesn’t have one on? Very cute by the way.. thanks for posting this!!
You’re welcome! The instructions say to not use a crib sheet to ensure the full breathability. The mattress is plenty comfy without one and it’s important to leave it bare for infants. We do put one on now that she’s older and used to sleeping on sheets at daycare. Hope that helps!
I’m debating between the waterproof vs non, 2stage Would it be better to buy the waterproof mattress or the non, but add a waterproof cover? If baby pees overnight is it more practical/convenient to have a cover that can just come off and wash as opposed to having to wash the entire mattress? Let me know your thoughts! Thank you.
Hi! Thanks for watching! We have the waterproof version which is helpful but I don't think you can go wrong with either version since it really is very easy to clean the cover and/or mattress after accidents! The one thing I would say is if you're adding a different brand waterproof cover, that may affect the breathability of the mattress which is the main reason we chose the Newton over others! Hope this helps!

Congratulations! And we love this mattress! Peace of mind was worth it to us and we hope to use it for a long time!
Thank you ❤

Newton mattress is the best! We love it
Safe and comfortable! Well worth it in my opinion!
Great video! Please can you kindly share the link to mattress?

Sweet shirt! I wear those almost exclusively. 😊
Thanks sir! Solid daily shirts for sure!

I'll add I'm between the waterproof Newton you have here, and the waterproof Naturepedic. I've been obsessing for hours on end day after day!

late to this comment but i heard waterproof liners defeat the purpose of a breathable mattress. is this true?

Were you breathing through it with the waterproof cover?
Yes, you can breathe through both sides just fine! Newton recommends waiting to use the waterproof side until your child is one year old to ensure max breathability for infants though. Hope this helps!
Do crib sheets affect the breathability?

We use a Newton sheet on ours now and it is definitely still breathable but we didn't use one for probably the first year of use! Hope this helps!
What crib did you get that fits the mattress?
The mattress is a standard size so it should fit in regular cribs! I think ours was from Pottery Barn.
Did you compare to safe sleep mattress?
Thanks for watching! I don’t remember seeing the SafeSleep mattress on the market at the time we bought ours but I would be interested in doing a comparison if I can get my hands on one!
Do you need crib sheets? Sorry dumb question

This looks like it’s only in the US
I believe Newton ships select products to Canada and the UK as well but unsure about other locations!
