My Taycan Turbo S was an extremely fun car to drive. The only problem I had with it was that the tech was a million miles behind Tesla with regard to the infotainment system. It was slow, clunky, and felt like it was using a 10 yr old computer.

@@maxwest4820 It's not that I want a driving computer, but for all the attention they put to the driving mechanics, their infotainment engineers are like Apple's rejects. They put out a product that was dated and crappy 5 years after the Model 3 came out. It's like buying a 1080p TV when 4k has been out for years. No excuse. And it affects my driving enjoyment because I frequently use navigation and listen to music. Both features -sucked- on the porsche compared to tesla.

@@rjm656 Yeah I agree, I had the Taycan and the tech was half-assed. My car was so buggy and I had to take it to the dealership for the late 2022 update, couldn't do it OTA like Tesla. And guess what, they had my car for 2 weeks trying to update the software. It kept failing over and over. That's an absolute joke. I have given up on EV's they are too compromised and are now depreciation kings. Going back to manual 911's and not ever looking back.

I realize that cars like these are a flex because you can afford to eat the depreciation either by leasing the car (paying to use the most expensive part of the ownership cycle) or buying outright and selling/trading in for $100K less in a few years. Personally, I only buy enthusiast cars at the bottom of their depreciation curve that do not drop in value because I hate depreciation. If I need a daily driver I just buy a cheap car and drive it into the ground. Image and status are very expensive to maintain. It always surprises me how many educated professionals go to living pay check to pay check with an otherwise comfortable salary to show people they are dumb enough to throw away money on mediocre overpriced cars with no resale value.

  • @madfemurfast

While the Tycan is a decent car is nothing more than an electric Panamera (you nailed it with the comparison) therefore will depreciate the same as any other r car. I cannot imagine that anyone will look for Tycans in 30 years like people look for 993. It is not a cult car like the 911 🤷‍♂️

Doesn't having just about the worst efficiency in its class (which given its size/weight/price means of all EV's, full stop) have a lot do with its perceived value as a used buy? Not to mention that by definition this means they're using their batteries harder, which doesn't bode well for their life expectancy. A Model S, for eg. is nearly twice as efficient and its battery could hence theoretically last for nearly twice the mileage.

    • @mmistermusic
      @mmistermusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

I had a Tesla and a Taycan. A model S is not twice as efficient. The model S is about 10% more efficient.
And I doubt Porsche EV buyers care that much about efficiency if the range is fine.
You can easily do 350km with the small battery and 400km with the big battery. You can charge in 20min. What more range or efficiency would you need ?

I got a Tesla Model 3P+ in 2018. I saw no reason to waste $130k on a Taycan. My car ($70k originally after rebates) competes with a 911 C4 in performance at near-legal speeds (0-60 in 3.2s). The Model 3 clearly competes with the 911 in the looks department, too, with a frog-like appearance from the front but my car has 4-passenger 6'er space like a Panamera ... My car is 4Y old and my expenditures for electricity & repairs? $0. I get free electricity for life on my car ... The USA price on the Tesla Model 3P+ is now $54k, I predict Porsche is in big trouble with these Tesla prices ...

Decided to check Vroom to see what they think my Type-R is worth and they are offering me $38,000 for it and it has almost 44,000 miles! That's what I paid for the car back in 2019. Zero depreciation. Gotta love Honda ICE vehicles :)

In other words: the Taycan is deprecating at historically normal rates for any automobile. The last 2.5 years of zero depreciation have been an anomaly. Back to normal.
The rest of the auto market will catch up in the second half of 2023.
Taycan depreciation is not interesting. Up until 2019 it was typical for any car to lose 30% of initial price the moment you drive off the lot, then 10% every year after that assuming 12,000 miles per year.
Cars depreciate. They are not an investment.

Woow, so many people taking the opportunity to blame EV's.
Didn't you see in that he made the comparison with the panamera. That depreciated in the same way and is an ICE vehicle !
So the depreciation is really NOT related with the fact that it is an EV.
If you need more prove, look at Model S and Model 3 depreciation. It is also in line with, or better, than the general automotive market.
The people that are writing that EV's are not fun to drive or that the Taycan is low quality: they clearly never driven a Taycan.
Today in the news was a man in France who drove 200000 km in 2 years with his Taycan. He had only one sensor failure during that time.

Where to take these cars once the warranty expires? Hardly any indy shop mechanics out there are familiar with the complex electric systems of these advanced vehicles .. So it could be a financial suicide to buy one used and deal with the expenses later on, hence that could be a reason for such a rapid price drops.

Porsche has no mid sized sedan and they would sell really well. You have get a giant Panamera or electric. I have the 991s and Audis. There is no equivalent to the S4. They could start with that and further develop it. The Macan is mid sized but too heavy and that makes it handle poorly except for the average driver.

While I’m sure it’s a nice car I wouldn’t touch any of the Taycan’s, this is a first generation EV for Porsche so there is zero EV learning in this car. The next generation will be better but even that will not be entirely competitive. By the third generation the technology should start to be mature, the legacy auto makers have shown they don’t know how to build EV’s yet, it’s going to take time to catch up with the likes of Tesla.

I swapped keys even Steven for a CPO 2018 base Cayenne (E3) and pulset be happier. Got 3 yrs PAW thrown in the deal on the Cayenne and it’s been an absolute dream, even though I had new tyres, brakes and a starter motor fixed/replaced under warranty, and I still got 2,5 yrs of PAW left. I had a Taycan and it lasted 5 months in my garage. Coming from 911's and my wife's Panamera it was by far the worst Porsche I ever owned. Too heavy, too buggy, too boring - it's not a Porsche in my opinion and EV's are just goofy vehicles to begin with. I dumped it about 8 months ago because I saw the huge depreciation wave about to hit - my 992 arrives in 2 weeks and I haven't even thought about the Taycan once since. Oh and they are STILL trying to sell my old Taycan, for less than they gave me for trade-in.
