【About FUTABA】
This bird is the shoebill, named FUTABA.
Shoebill is native to Africa. Bird whose DNA resembles shoebill is pelican.
FUTABA lives in a bird park(Kakegawa kachouen) in Japan.

This bird has almost no voice, so it makes a sound by hitting its beak.
This is called cluttering.Bowing and cluttering are said to represent intimate feelings.
The name "Futaba" was decided by open call for participants.
"Futaba" means two leaves (young shoots of a plant).
Because at that time her hairstyle was similar.

I enjoyed all of the special event episodes! Thank you for sharing and looking forward to your next visit!! Although we can't understand everything our favorite caretaker says, I love the tender moments like around 3:22 :) If you look close around 3:26 you can see he even does his own cluttering back to Futaba like "bababa". ^^ I notice her favorite caretaker sometimes keeps a respectable distance compared to others, but it's nice to see how he's still very attentive to Futaba in these little ways. They seem to share a precious bond and I can see why he's her favorite. I'm so glad we get to enjoy them~

Final episode? No, no, I love sweet Futaba. She is so unique and unusual. I agree, she is my daily “soap entertainment”.

It's a crummy enclosure for this bird, it requires mash land, and it is in prisoned on concrete.
a typical seeing where it is at. the ape enclourses are as bad, how would you people like being caged
on stone and broken rock to walk around on, may be sleeping on a board. getting the hint. I doubt it is eating properly.
it hunts for it's meals, live fish & other such it can take in. there it eats dead fish.
and everyone is thinking how wonderful, all the while it is in a prison. how nice.
you get a it a much larger and proper habitat it, I'll stop.
Sadly everybody here is so busy thinking that this bird is a human girl having a crush on the male caretaker [>>rolls eyes bigtime
Futaba deserves to be released home in wetlands, Africa. :( Capturing shoebills is abuse. :( She's cute, but, sorry. Better to observe animals in wild by cams.
