    Great job educating people on how to identify Asian carp and value the common carp as a good species people can enjoy fishing for!!

      I love fishing for common carp! I hope I helped people identify the difference between asian carp and common carp.

      The carp really was powerful! Glad you enjoyed the video. For my videos we use a website called music bed… you can get a subscription and put the music into videos. I don’t remember the exact name of the song but it’s from that website.

    Was literally shouting at the screen when it slipped through that net...

      It was horrible when the fish went through the net… but it’s my goal to catch him this summer. And this time I’ll bring a better net lol.

    Can you eat carp and other fish you pull from Hamilton harbour?

    • @AverieRose
      @AverieRose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean you can... I certainly wouldn't because of the industrial factories located in the harbour, and the highly populated cormorants. They probably wouldn't taste good or be healthy fish.

      @@AverieRose you got any tips for fishing spots around Hamilton for edible stuff? My girlfriend and I just got out sport licenses, we tried down by harbour and fisherman's pier but no such luck yet!

    I give you 40lbs on that and I know the feeling I lost one at the net that looked twice as big as a 40lb that I had caught.

    • @AverieRose
      @AverieRose  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s too bad I don’t know the exact weight… if it was 40lbs that would have been a giant! You lost one that was twice as big as a 40lber!! OMG that’s a real giant! Hope you get em next time!

    How did these Asian carp species get there in the first place?
    The way these fish live is harmful to their own environment, let alone ours.

    • @AverieRose
      @AverieRose  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not quite sure exactly how they got to North America but I believe they were brought here in the 60’s to control algae, plants and small crustaceans in ponds.

      Most of the ones caught so far have been sterile fish released from ponds or wet markets
      Any naturally reproducing fish have been in the west end of Lake Erie coming from waterbodies connected to the Mississippi River Delta.

    • @theastuteangler
      @theastuteangler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mississippi River floods of the 1990s. They were used in ponds to control weeds and algae. Floods allowed them into the Mississippi. From there, into Lake Erie.

      @maxboltmanjr364 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should look into grass carp as most if not all of them are sterile

    • @maxboltmanjr364

      And grass carp were put here by us as humans
