I can’t believe this video is on TH-cam...Gretchen was my neighbor in Cedarhurst. She had her good days and her bad days, but she was completely harmless. She died around 2000. I remember watching this when I was no older than 3. Thank you for posting this unique show!
I left NYC in 81 but lived there briefly after the military in 1987, too bad I wasn't watching public access TV at the time! Oh yeah, I didn't have cable, lol.
I actually went to Al Louis's restaurant, It was called "Grandpa's". I think it was on Bleeker Street. He sat right in the front greetings everyone, and he would go to each table and talk with the customers.
I havent laughed that hard in years. That puppet guy was so terrible, and then that wacked out lady, god that was fantastic. And grampa Munster killed on that set! These are PURE GOLD! Thanks so much for sharing these!!
Back in these days u never know what hell would be on at late night!.I can remember seeing one of these shows and right after a show playing music videos with the song Fish Heads.
That's so funny when grampa Al goes "what are you crazy" compared to those nut cases he's sitting next to , he's the sanest person in the world. Howard Stern would love this.
This must be before Al Lewis was wearing all those Nudie-glitsy-western outfits when he was sitting in front of his mob-owned restaurant. That Emmitt Kelly dummy is going to give me nightmares. :(
📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺📺
What i said. I would upload all episodes and get it out there then come back doing THE EXACT show with looked and everything and it would go over big time. It would HAVE to have the very same cheap look, set and cheap mics etc. DO NOT modernize it. Haha. First show should have all the former guest who are still with us. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they are going to do anything with it sadly.
This is a real early episode, I guess David Greene hadn't developed his "character" yet. Grandpa Al brought out the best in David. I love watching these shows, great television!
Post the "highlight show" made of the time Al Lewis hosted Beyond Vaudeville live at NYU with the then comedy team of Book n Martino. All here would enjoy.
OMG...I HATE a sarcastic sense of humor..getting smacked GTFOH...OLD MAN..I can sit there for hours and make HIM laugh untill he litterally shit in his pants.
Beyond Vaudeville was the best tv show!
Ok, never thought I'd see that. Bravo, Al.
My favourite episode! Nothing like seeing Cigar Smoking in an interview. Proper old school guy!
Al Lewis was a National Treasure !!!!!
OMG! Oddville! I was a guest on it a couple of times on MTV! (Tongue tricks / Tongue tied Jim). They were all really cool! Loved this show!
Was David talking when the cameras weren't rolling?

Wow! All her fans would love to hear more about her! Please share any stories you have about her on our Beyond Vaudeville Facebook page, thanks!!

Never seen David laugh and smile so much.
Or talk. I like this David. Before he became jaded due to sour contract negotiations. Never pay one host more than another.
He's cute.
I plan on watching every single episode
Holy shit! David speaks!!! Best episode ever!
One of my favorite episodes of beyond vaudeville with al Lewis David laughing was funny
Thanks for this episode. Grampa Al was a great guest, it was fun to see him making David laugh and break character.
Amazing what a long life Al
Lewis lived smoking those cigars constantly.
I actually went to Al Louis's restaurant, It was called "Grandpa's". I think it was on Bleeker Street. He sat right in the front greetings everyone, and he would go to each table and talk with the customers.
We need beyond vaudeville 2024
This was the greatest thing ever.
Al Lewis.....one of kind. Wonderful.
A penny for David’s thoughts when Gretchen was talking on the interview couch! Hilarious! 😉
These are the greatest episodes I have ever seen laughing out loud at them!
I love that Grandpa!
Absolutely fantastic episode, thank you for uploading this and thank you for continuing the legacy that is Beyond Vaudeville.
Al was a great guy. Miss him terribly.
The puppet movie critic segment cutaway shots of grandpa are gold. Looking like he ended up in someone else's nightmare.

Easily my favorite episode. David cracking is simply the best!
I wish I had met Mr. Lewis.
“There’s got to be a telethon for him.”
funny
The host reminds me of Seymour from the original Little Shop of Horrors.
When he said there’s got to be a telethon for him that made me laugh right off the bat.
oh my god, this is the most brilliant thing I have ever seen
this is a great show, very well done stuff, dig it
Gretchen is the original Boxxy
He’s like grandpa rickles
I wish Grandpa was my actual grandpa 😂. At least I hope I'm like him at his age 😆.
That's so funny when grampa Al goes "what are you crazy" compared to those nut cases he's sitting next to , he's the sanest person in the world. Howard Stern would love this.
Another great ep, thanks for sharing this!
This is an American Treasure. David Greene has been bronzed.
This was a crash course of how to broadcast successfully taught by the brilliant Al Lewis lol
The production values on this show are over the top.
Al Lewis is precious!
Yeah Al Lewis YEAH!!!!!
Love grandpa and herman musters hanging out together
I went to Al's restaurant in-early 90s?-and he was actually there, wandering around the tables giving everybody shit. It was aweome.
This must be before Al Lewis was wearing all those Nudie-glitsy-western outfits when he was sitting in front of his mob-owned restaurant. That Emmitt Kelly dummy is going to give me nightmares. :(
Everyone loves Al Lewis.

This is the 3rd best Beyond Vaudeville episode after the Foxy Boxers episode and the Christmas episode.
I havent had this much fun since a Hog ate my little Brother!!
Kevin and Bub is the greatest ventriloquist act ever. With a creepy edge.
To see David loose it so much was worth it. Good to see the human side.
lol the time traveling haircut kid
What a natural wit
I really liked the poem!
I love the early shows where David was still human and interacted somewhat.
Oh my God, this episode is insanely funny.
THANK YOU!
WHY don't they bring this great show BACK??

Gold!
Al Lewis as Don Rickles.
Dave's laughing!
This reminds me of a Public Broadcast Station, showing some random thing, as you stayed the night in NYC on a random trip. Is that what this it?
From the wonderful world of New York City public access television
@@beyondvaudeville Really... that's crazy. Great stuff..
i named my son "grandpa" in honor of al lewis
Anarchic Grandpa
This is a real early episode, I guess David Greene hadn't developed his "character" yet. Grandpa Al brought out the best in David. I love watching these shows, great television!
It's better when David is stone faced and doesn't talk at all. It's funnier that way for me.

FAMILY MEMEBERS are like that...OMG..raised on sarcastic humor
Say, what is Gretchen Weiner up to today? She's a fascinating personality.
They call that schizophrenia.
Grandpa wasn’t a Munster. He was Herman’s son-in-law.
Father in law. Lilly’s father.
Grampa can't keep his hands off Frank.
Kevin & His Friend Bub 18:40

The best one😂
David looks like he could be the twin brother of Matt Sharp.. (Weezer/Rentals)
Al Lewis had eleven million dollars?
UNBEATABLE EPISODE
I like David better this way.
9:45 9:48

Is grandpa always been like this or is it dementia maybe?
Gremlins 2

Children wasting an opportunity with All Lewis.
This is so sad.
