Sutirtha Misra actually they get cherry picked when they come in the store in real life none of the pawn stars are actually there. When something show worthy comes in they set them up with pawn stars to put it on the show. What you see is an actual deal going down however the people in the background are extras to put on the show to make it look like a normal day at the shop.

Yeah, I was thinking what kind of a jackass thing to say to the guy. I don't know the guy's financial situation, but I would have just left telling Rick that was the last time I go to his store for any reason. You don't just shut people down with ultimatums like that. I guess with all the fame and fortune he has acquired, Rick has reached a point where he simply does not care and will say whatever he wants.

Yep, if you sold it at auction you could be paying 30% commission, plus if you set a reserve you will be paying a % of the reserve price up front, plus other fees. And you would have to wait weeks to get the money I'm guessing.
But as a collector you probably would have had it graded before taking it somewhere to sell it. If he'd done that Rick would have offered him more as the risk would be less.

Rick took all the risk by buying before knowing the grade of the note. He paid $2,500 for it and then spent more money to send it off to be graded. There was a possibility that it would come back with a lower grade and he could have lost money in the transaction. He didn't lowball on the offer. He offered the amount that he was willing to risk. Had the customer walked in with the note already graded to be worth around $7,000 then Rick probably would have offered around $6,000

Lots of people on here talking about the seller getting scammed. If you don't find out what something is worth or do the initial work yourself (get it graded) than don't expect the top dollar. These guys are running a business. The seller just wants some cash. I don't know how much it costs to get something graded but am guessing is doesn't cost 2k (the amount more the guy might have gotten. The seller screwed himself not Rick.

So its ricks fault cause he gave a guy 2500 bucks for an ungraded 1000$ bill? He didn't even have it checked out. The only thing that rick could have done different is told the guy to get it graded and come back. But lets say it came back and it really was fake do you think rick would call that guy back asking for the 2500 back? No that would not have happened.

Gotta be nice trading $1000 for $2500.
Everyone complaining about Rick maybe selling it later for $7K has never run a business in their life.
When you sell to a pawn shop, you are going to be selling at a wholesale price.
You spend anywhere from $30-$250 to get a note graded depending how quick of a turnaround you need.
Everyday that note doesn't sell there is employee salary, utilities, lease, and other business expenses that go into supporting the piece remaining in the shop. It's obviously a fraction but it builds up over time.
If he bought $7K bills for $6900 all day he'd be out of business in a month.

When the label on the slab (applied when a note is certified) says "NET", that means that's what the note looks like, but there is some reason for this designation--often it means the note has been restored in some way to make it look as if it is worthy of that grade. Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) will always guarantee that the note is genuine if they put their label on it, but they won't guarantee the grade when it has the NET notation. On the back of the label will be a comment as to why the NET was put on the front.
PCGS, the other major paper money grading service, uses the word "Apparent" instead, but for the same reason.

This is the highest denomination from the series of 1918 that is considered collectible. $5,000 and $10,000 bills were also issued, but those only exist in museums. The one thousand dollar bill that we are looking at here is one of only a handful of bank notes to actually feature a dollar sign (it is on the back). Lots of low serial numbers exist for 1918 $1,000 bills. The serial number really doesn’t add any extra value. All of these notes are valued based on their condition and issuing district. The most generic examples in heavily circulated condition usually sell for around $8,000. Many notes have the chance to be worth a lot more if they are in XF condition or higher.

1918 $1000 bill in VF 20 Greensheet wholesale is priced at $16,000. One could probably net about $10,000 to $12,000 after fees by selling it at auction, possibly more. (The grading fee was less than $100.) Edit: Heritage just sold one graded the same VF 25 on August 15th 2019 for for a little over $15,000 including a buyers fee of 17 percent.
