I’m a fan of all these dark rides. A park should consider collecting all of these and open a Dark Land! I’m sure many of us over 50 would enjoy a trip back to our youth.
And you’ll hear the same at any amusement establishment because it’s to ensure your ass is covered in the event that one person out of so many, fails to follow safety rules. Can’t tell you how many times my repetition of the safety rules saved mine because you never know when a dumbass is at the park.
Liability reasons, and the guy is so used to spouting those lines it’s like second nature, I used to volunteer for a miniature railway and every weekend I said those instructions so many times…. I can still remember them….
Yet some woman hops off the boat in Living With the Land in EPCOT to pick a cucumber in the greenhouse and the video goes viral. I watched a German tourist hop off the boat in the desert scene. Security was escorting her out of the park when I exited the attraction.
My extended family would spend Summers in Sylvan beach in the 80s and 90s. We all called it "Orange Park" because in that era almost everything was painted in that, classic, deep 80s orange color haha You can still see it on the tilt-a-whirl and the bomber, but *everything* had that orange on it.
“That bomber ride was called ‘ The Roll-o-plane’ in the 1950’s. Back then a lot of automobiles didn’t even have seat belts, same with the carnival rides. It appears it has been there over 50 year’s.
By the early '60s, it was called the "Dive Bomber", which is how I knew it. And I'm old enough to remember watching my father install seat belts in our old station wagon when the laws changed. I can attest to the fact that there were none in the Dive Bomber. Also that safety helmets for bicyclists did not exist. We kids lived dangerous lives in those days, didn't we?
Our local amusement park (Bell's Amusement Park, R.I.P.) called it "The Bullet." I was NEVER so beat up on a ride as I was on that thing... was on a date at the time, got off, walked over to the flower beds, and promptly THREW UP into them. You couldn't hear me but I was screaming at the screen, "don't do it, Jacob!!! Don't get on that thing!!!" :-D
As a kid, I was on a similar Bomber/Hammer ride. During a vertical drop, the ride froze up and my companion and I was stuck face-ing downward for about 15-20 minutes till they were able to get it going again. Never will I ever go near one of those again!
Years ago at our county fair my two brothers and I had to ride the , same ride, bomber. Swear it is the same one . only they called it the hammer. We got on. It didn't seem bad at first. I after awhile puked and passed out. My brothers cried. They lost it after the ride. Puked all over. We felt sick the rest of the night. I saw it once again years later. Swear I felt sick from seeing it.
I don’t know how old you are, but I’m 46 and while I used to be a daredevil who could ride anything, I’m now unable to ride anything that even almost messes with my equilibrium without hugging the nearest trash can for hours. That spinny-turny “bomber” ride that arrived straight from the bowels of hell? No thanks.
[laughs] And I'm 70. Luckily, my body doesn't react with nausea. Unluckily, I can feel my heart going bonkers on me on rides like that, or roller coasters, all of which I loved as a kid. And it can take a while for the heartbeat to return to normal, too. [sighs] Growing old sucks sometimes.
I am 53 and I will get nauseous watching a train go by. I have made myself sick watching spinny type rides on youtube. I will still pick 1 crazy ride at fair and go on it as long as it doesn't spin. I am ok with roller coasters though (I think) its been awhile.
I actually live about an 1/2 hour from this amusement park and actually worked there 10 years ago. About a couple of years ago Ghost Hunters were there and shot an episode
Glad you finally made it on Laffland! The whole place is pretty much out of the 50s (excepe the arcades, of course). And your ride on the Bomber was hillarious (obviously, not for you). The expression on your face was priceless.
when your dark ride sounds like a ping pong tournament.... stuff like this still being in operation is fantastic, not only mechanically but culturally. sure, it might be more like the 'scary' carnival ride from 'the simpsons' than is comfortable to admit, but this is like a time machine. love it! this looks like the kind of place that just mesmerizes you at night when all the lights are on and people screaming. pure america, right here, kids.
It's wonderful at night. It's right in Oneida Lake. Used to go swimming and have bonfires on the beach after the park closed. Eddie's restaurant is a fabulous place to eat. I believe it's had celebrities like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra as customers back in the day. Great food.
I enjoy your videos and I live in whitley city Kentucky (mccreary county) I saw your Cumberland falls video which is 15 minutes from my house and video at Somerset ky at oddities museum where I was grow up Thank you so much for your videos putting a smile on my face
Thank you for taking me away.. I've been battling covid and all of the side-effects since Christmas 2020 still in rehab. I missed all summer and spring.. I have a tracheostomy and a hole in my neck forever. Thank you Love all your videos. 💘😻💜
Oh man the rides here are the old school rodes from when I grew up. Never heard of a dark ride before. This would be pretty creepy for sure. Always finding new places through you.
So looking forward to when the Halloween attractions start. Love the dark rides at the amusement parks. You were certainly brave to ride that horrible ride. I felt so sorry for you. Thanks for taking us on all of your adventures.
Omg! Used to go all the time as a child when I lived in New York. Didn't know it was still there. I'm now 71 years old. It has changed a lot. Memories for sure. 😁
Nice to see you exploring my neck of the woods :) I am a bit embarrassed to say I've never been to Sylvan Beach, though. Sadly, you are about 50 years too late to visit Suburban Park in Manlius, NY, Home of the Comet roller-coaster. As well as 90 years too late for Longbranch Park. So much for pining over what once was. I hope you have fun at your next destination!
I went there once when I was very young, in the early 70s. I have many memories though of riding past the old sign and the lonely roller coaster when everything else was gone.
Sylvan Beach is where I grew up. I lived right down the road from the amusement park near Captain John's Restaurant. One night I watched some guy rip the headless skeleton off the wall of Laffland and drive off with it. Some great memories down by the canal
The old ones are one one track so thay dont really go back but thay do zig zag very close to the previous part of the track. Haven't been on this one but another very similar one does go back and forth to the same walls.
This was my first amusement park ever and my first dark ride ever. There is a home video of me at age 7 telling the camera that I was brave enough to go in and that I had a good time. In reality, I had my eyes shut the whole time. I have a lot of great memories there. Thank you for doing this video.
OMG, Jacob! I lived here until 2015! Now I live over an hour away, in what was the Pancake House. It was the first big building in the town, built in 1819. Where the hotel is now (across from the Circle K) was a TB hospital and sanitarium, run by Dr. Martin Cavana, until about 1910. Called the Lakeview hospital. I'm glad you finally got to visit Sylvan Beach. It has a ton of history!
Dude, I have watched so many of your videos over the years, and truly enjoyed them. This one took it to a whole new level. When I was a child my sister and I would ride The Bomber. Here they called it the Bullet. We loved it. Watching you on it, made me realize I could not handle it now. You are so brave. More power to you. You are my hero!!! Peace Out.
Rotors are my favorite ride! You enter a cylinder room and stand against the wall. The cylinder room spins making you stick to the wall and then the floor lowers down leaving you hanging stuck against the wall. As the ride slows down the floor comes back up and then the ride stops and you exit down the exit ramp.
We love your videos Jacob! I am a new follower, my wife & I enjoy the places you go. Laughed at your ride experience but glad you made it safe & sound on the ground. Thanks for the videos.

I don't know if it's still there, cause even though I only live about 20 minutes away, it's been years since I was at Knoebles, but there was a bomber ride there too.
