Not really if you can't create predictable environments. But if you do basketball drills AND play lots of games it's gonna reap you a better result. Same thing transfer for most things like learning languages etc.

@@hector9586 kids are not faster at learning, that is a common misconception. they simply have more free time on their hands. kids that excel at something like chess would have great interest or time spent upon it. when youre a kid you spend most of the day doing the thing you like, this is why there are so many 12 year old's that are better than most adults at video games. any genetic differences amongst individuals is usually minute and if there is someone that wins the genetic lottery and can learn faster than average, then he would still have to learn and process the same info, thus making him 'talented' at learning not 'talented' at chess.
@@K_Shawn_Webb You need hard work regardless but people specially kids that soak everything like a sponge are faster learners and therefor experts in less time.

3:20 in other words, after _controlling_ , or “eliminating the bias of”, the masters knowledge of chess it is revealed that most humans can only retain about 7 digits or a few elements on a paper. 🤔 SCIENCE
@der Albtraum uhm that’s much different, because with the things you named it’s the same numbers or words in the same order that you listen to or see over and over again
to memorize a chess piece: its row and column = 2 elements; its color and type = 2 more elements, so one can memorize 3 pieces * 4 elements = 12 elements, in 5 seconds. Seem reasonable to me
I think the seven number refers to working memory in psychology. Masters of chess are able to use long term recall that has been encoded and gets retrieved through these special retrieval cues they use when looking at the board, for example a certain opening or a certain response that only this said person would do in this said position and therefore they can figure out who played it. Or in the case of just long term memory, they're able to retrieve the information about a game 20 years ago because they recognize the way it's played out, there are a bunch of ways that we retrieve our long term memories. It's pretty miraculous to think about the fact that people can remember verbatum a conversation they've had 10 years ago with a good friend of theirs, or other examples like that. Long term recall and having fast or very well developed retrieval processes and cues is different from working memory, which is the amount of items/chunks you can have in your mind at any given time for immediate recall (and usually for working memory you have to rehearse it, meaning find a way to keep it within your working memory through uses of pneumonic devices or repeating, etc.) I'm pretty sure that's how it goes but I could be wrong
@der Albtraum this is because, like talked abt in the video, your brain chunks that information, for example chunking a phone number into 3 groups of numbers, or chunking your credit card # into 4 groups of 4 digits, effectively allowing you more memory while still staying under the 7-8 cap that human memory has.
League as game can give you contradicting feedback. You can win games where you played poorly and lose games where you perform well. In the micro you can be rewarded for bad plays and punished by your team for doing good plays. This is why a coach can be valuable, cause through this complexity they can spot your mistakes, regardless whether it ended up rewarding or punishing you.
@@hector9586 In the context of a single game it can feel like a coin flip. But across hundreds of games, you are the common denominator. You get the rank that you deserve. This is why good players can consistently hit high ranks. If it was a coinflip, anyone could hit challenger.
