Yes and no. I worked at Bosch's diesel-injector plants a couple of summers and I can tell you this about VW/Audi parts: All injectors were built on the same line, all were fitted with the same parts and tested the same, they were identical. So far, so good. Injectors have to open at a specific pressure point and anything that got into a +/- 11bar window was green-lighted. VW/Audi on the other hand only bought pieces that were in a +/- 7 bar window. So, at the end of the line you had two people packing two boxes, one for Genuine Bosch OE parts and one for the "better" genuine VW/Audi parts. Your car will run just as good with OE parts as with brand parts, but the price and the box are not the only differences!

the pump and thermostats are different prices because of the guts not the castings. Clearly BMW and MB made both cast parts which means their is money being saved somewhere else. The only place they can do that is in the guts of the part. Its unlikely that either aftermarket part is that far from OEM standards that it would cause damage to the vehicle but there is clearly a difference if the housings are made by the same company yet the aftermarket is cheaper. Never assume that a cheaper part is identical to an OEM just because they have the same stamping on the housing. Also the castings are clearly good as they wouldn't release them into wild if they weren't. its just a matter of trusting whats inside the part.
I think it's exactly the opposite of this. The car manufacturers don't make parts like this. They buy them in from parts suppliers. What happens is that the parts suppliers make them for BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc and they put the relevant badge on for the appropriate customer, but they make more than the manufacturer actually orders, this means they have a surplus number of genuine parts which they then grind the badge off and sell under their own name. This way the manufacturer pays for the up front design and tooling costs for the parts, so the parts supplier can afford to sell the "surplus" stock at a much lower price. The key to this is finding out which parts supplier provides the official parts to the manufacturer. Any other OE supplier probably is cutting corners to reduce costs because they don't have the manufacturers' contract to cover the up front costs. For instance, Porsche get lots of parts from TRW, but you can get the exact same parts direct from TRW at less than half the cost of buying from Porsche!
This video is irresponsible to viewers without experience in engineering and manufacturing processes. It's misleading to suggest the stuff on the inside is always exactly the same between OE and OEM, or that the range of acceptable performance is the same between OE and OEM, just because the brand logos have been milled off the outer casing for legality. Unless you're the buyer (person who sources the individual components that go into the final assembled part) for the company making branded and unbranded parts, or quality tester (person measuring tolerances) you can't guarantee that the branded and unbranded parts are identical. I'm an engineer who works in a design and manufacturing group, and this is exactly how companies use quality control to manage cost/revenue. For example, BMW uses plastic cups in their sway-bar end-links, assembled by Lemforder. How do you get proof from Lemforder that the plastic cups they use in their end-link are not a low-cost substitute for the same branded end-link they produce for BMW? If there is a difference, the OE and OEM end-links are simply not the same. They may have similar performance, but how similar and for how long? If the performance is not within BMW's acceptable range, how will it affect the other components in the suspension/drive-line system? Will you be replacing the aftermarket end-links after 10k or 30k miles, instead of 70k if you had used OEM? This example can be applied to any OE vs OEM part. Even an intake air-filter. Maybe the branded filter required a debris tolerance of +/- X microns, while the unbranded filters have a tolerance of +/- Y microns, where Y>X, just like michaelXXLF's explanation of the differences in OE and OEM Bosch injectors shared in these comments approx. 9 months prior. In short, if your goal is to maintain, with a high amount of certainty, a vehicle's original performance and longevity, as much as possible, buy the more expensive part with the branded logo carrying that guarantee. If your goal is to only continue pushing a vehicle down the road, gambling with the probability that varying levels of performance and longevity could be sacrificed, buy the substitute. Maybe it's just as good. Maybe it isn't. The question of spending more/less for branded/unbranded parts is a perfectly logical consideration for anyone. It boils down to the purpose/intent of the owner's vehicle. Is it classic/expendable/exotic/light use/high-mileage/etc? Have been told by my local specialist that for Fuel Injectors (VDO or OEM) brand injectors will not last as long but are half the price. But I guess for the parts, it also depends on how you drive.
Mike, Ooops! Allow me to clarify. The pads, struts and mass air did not come from FCP. They were from an auto chain store, We have been satisfied with all the FCP parts we have purchased.
No problem at all with OEM parts. The problem will occur only if you buy aftermarket parts of suspicious quality (Chinese or the like). This especially applies to highly sophisticated cars like BMW, Merc, Porsche etc. Although I personally would always avoid cheap aftermarket parts, no matter what kind of car I drive. As the saying goes, "I am not rich enough to buy cheap stuff" 😉
We used to have a decent parts supplier in the UK, EuroCarParts. But them, like all others decided to bring in cheap aftermarket (non OE) parts. Now that's all they sell. I have to search high and low for a place that will sell the DECENT aftermarket OE parts. Definitely a gap in the market in the UK atleast!!
Hi sir .. I'm watching your video from india 😊 my ques is if we see brand mark like audi then it is genuine part ..and if company name mentioned like hengst then it is OEM ..then whats is OES part🤔
Hello Mike, Is there a difference between after market parts, OE parts and genuine? All of the after market parts we used on our 1996 Volvo 850 GLT are not as good as the original 21 year old parts they have replaced. For example the after market struts make noise as do the after market brake pads and the after market mass air flow sensor lasted all of one year.
Hello Rose, OE parts are the same as Genuine with different packaging. Aftermarket parts are basically a copy of the OE or Genuine part and quality levels can vary because of this.
FCP is selling genuine parts, and watching their supply chain in an effort to avoid getting counterfeits Unfortunately, several OE suppliers we have long trusted have created supply companies to sell replacement parts to the aftermarket. I *suspect* this is so they can sell the car manufacturer a part meeting the OE quality requirements through the original company, and a lower cost part of different quality to the aftermarket. I'd really like your thoughts on this practice. Such parts have the brand names and labels, but may be made differently than the original part that came with the car. For example, replacement L*******r ball joints are made with a flat bottom plate vs. the original's cup. That means less room for joint spring (which compensates wear) and grease. That may be why one failed at 12 months of easy highway driving, far from the norm for the earlier parts. FCP Euro's very good return policy reduces the sting, but that doesn't reimburse your 2x DIY labor, the cost of a wasted wheel alignment, or the added downtime.

OE Parts: These are the same parts originally supplied to dealerships, except with the dealer logos removed. This is done by manufacturers so the parts can be sold outside the dealer network due to licensing agreements. OEM Parts: Produced by a manufacturer that supplies at least one OE part to a vehicle manufacturer. OEM parts may not have been original to the car, but are held to higher-quality standard compared to aftermarket parts and stringent quality control.
Genuine and OE = the same thing. An OE part by our definition needs to be the same component that is provided to the car manufacturer as original equipment. OE parts are always brand neutralized meaning markings identifying the part as Genuine have been removed. OEM parts are components that are made by contracted original equipment manufacturers to the vehicle make but may not be the original equipment supplier for the part in question. Aftermarket parts are made by companies that have no affiliation to the vehicle manufacturer and are not an original equipment manufacture (OEM) or original equipment supplier (OES). I hope that makes sense.
OE is original equipment. OEM is original equipment manufacturer. You just pay for a box and, ink and a logo on the part... You can improve a car by switching the OE brand too.
I always thought I had to get OEM because it’s the best of the best. Well, I guess OE is still high quality but wow those are like the same pumps! People pay more for the OEM and get they can get OE cheaper ? Well if that’s the case I’ll get OE if I can expect the same lifespan.
Hi thank you for this video very interesting! Could you please also clarify would the part number stated on the box be same for Genuine and OE ? Or each has its own part number?
Hi Kurt, the part numbers are going to be identical! You can search for a Genuine part number on our site, and it will pull up all of the options available for it (OE-OEM-Genuine-Aftermarket).
@@fcpeuro Allright! And that is true not just for your website but in general right? For example if Porsche has original part number of say, oil filter, as xxxyyy, then if other OE or aftermarket firms will have same part number right?

Dorman makes OE quality parts and as they state, if an OEM part has a designed failure, Dorman parts fix that by making their parts with the fixed designed and often better quality than original at a cheaper price! They solve the issues OEM design flaws have....
I only mess with 10+ year old BMW... but are these water pumps friggin $400-500 because they are current gen or is that the direction we are going with BMW?
I can tell you for a fact the OEM VDO BMW water pumps are completely and totally inferior to the Genuine BMW parts. The information in this video is inaccurate. I have seen VDO pumps with no other markings other than the "Continental" mark. They die within 6 months. This is a well documented issue. I have experienced it repeatedly first hand due to shop that was using these. To qualify as OEM is a much lower standard, despite what this guy is saying. Demand the genuine parts. You are not just paying for a box. You are paying for ALL the parts inside the device to be correct. The advice in this video will cost you a lot of money in the long run, and possible cause heat damage to other parts of your car when these pumps fail. Never let a mechanic put non-genuine parts on your BMW.
what you're saying is most of those "OEM" compatibles are in fact REJECTS or known to be part of a defective serie. The video is misleading people into believing parts are 99.9% equal, minus the removed logo ... where in fact it is mostly hit or miss lottery 😂
People don't realize that no manufacturer make any parts. They have Bosch or someone else Making parts. BMW Mercedes other car manufacturers just put it in thier box or container. Even oil
Thanks FCP for the useful information. Could you please suggest reliable oem wholesale dealers from Germany or EU. I want to import to Qatar. Please provide me some reference. Thanks All
Lately I've been ripped off by the german OE because they only guarantee the part for 12K or 12M on a dealer repair and it's only 36-48K from the "factory" under warranty. Far too many OE parts from DE are just not lasting. Not engineered for American roads ? Can't take a beating? Maybe I'm too used to American pickup trucks that seem to last now like the german cars used to. What kills me is watching a US made pickup buzz around a merc or BMW on a mountain road like they were standing still - maybe because the truck has 20" tires, 460hp and gets almost the same mpg, but on 87 octane. On my A8 I went with Florida/US made air struts with a lifetime warranty because the factory units only last 60K miles. I think the ride improved too. My point - get over the image and look at the price and substance of the part.
you are so right about German quality circling the drain with premature failure. Every system on Benz is built borderline junk so it can fail right on schedule. What worries me is that Japanese cars are only licensed German technologies including their buggy CAN-BUS softwares too. Direct-Injection (1916), VTec, Variable Valve Timing etc are all pre-WWII German techs!! See Wikipedia for yourself. small world 🙂
This is not always the case, even from FCP Euro. Example: www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-vw-camshaft-bracket-kolbenschmidt-06h103144k The part in question is listed as OE, but is made in China. The OEM part is made in Germany, as confirmed when I purchased an OEM one.
Unfortunately with OE suppliers, their manufacturing plant locations are subject to changewithout notifying sellers. Genuine and OE will be the same, just with the removal of the make badge, OEM is a part made by a manufacturer who has made parts for that make at some point, but perhaps not that one (ie is=f bosch is the OE for ignition coils on a vehicle, but not the alternator, and you buy a bosch alternater, that would be OEM)
Volvo don't make the Parts they 'source' or contract out the making of same from a same off their third party manufacturers ...got a O.E.M. So I understood , OE - OEM is the same ( model ´n quality ) and not difference , the only thing this would be a way to company manufacturer control selling parts, from company it´s self and from dealers , OEM (original equipment manufacturer) sell from direct manufacturer OE (original equipment - for dealers resell) sell from dealers. that´s it =) Also aftermark, company who make ´n sell parts not made from original facturer, could be better or worst part quality, so an aftermark part of very old car or motorcycle could be better and solve a comom specific problem, also could has not good quality like OE, that´s a knife of two sharp surface =)
video is too imprecise; speaker says "oem" for example, even though video is labeled "oe". genuine = original equipment used in the factory + branding (e.g., BMW logo stamped into metal) OE = original equipment used in the factory (most of the time) without branding (though, while fairly rare, some sites lump genuine parts into the OE group) OEM = original equipment manufacturer; a part made by the same people as the OE part, but not guaranteed to be 100% like the OE part (and hell, sometime the OEM part is superior to the OE part... e.g., sometimes genuine/OE parts are improved over time)
well. ...have got shock where made by KYB. they make originally for toyota. but get kyb online for your car and get direct from toyota. will see difference outside only plus toyota logo or sticker, thats it. but bigger surprise is ride quality. is like water and fire. same make. same ‘’quality’’ ??!! well you get what you pay🤪🤪🤪

Great company, terrific buying experience.
We appreciate the support! Thank you Paul
Mike,
Ooops!
A lot of the genuine parts are made in China. Not sure why people equate cheap and low quality with China.
@@89five3five Because they make cheap and low quality parts duh!!!
You had me at "lack thereof".
Thank you all so much for enlightening us all to this reality! I'm going OE next time B-)
You're welcome. Same quality as Genuine at a fraction of the cost!
Excellent money saving information, thank you Mr. Rivera!
So how do i find who manufactures the oem part i need to replace ?
Hello Mike,
Is there a difference between after market parts, OE parts and genuine? All of the after market parts we used on our 1996 Volvo 850 GLT are not as good as the original 21 year old parts they have replaced. For example the after market struts make noise as do the after market brake pads and the after market mass air flow sensor lasted all of one year.
Hello Rose, OE parts are the same as Genuine with different packaging. Aftermarket parts are basically a copy of the OE or Genuine part and quality levels can vary because of this.
FCP is selling genuine parts, and watching their supply chain in an effort to avoid getting counterfeits
Unfortunately, several OE suppliers we have long trusted have created supply companies to sell replacement parts to the aftermarket.
@@paulreitz1095 that is why Amazon marketplace is so popular because junk items get exposed quickly by feedback comments...

Hello FCP EURO, I own a SLC 300 2017 Mercedes, by mistake I turn on the engine with the Air Bag disconected fue I was replacing cabin air filter and the air bag light turn ON on the cluster. Air bag system is ok, id there ia a way to reset the air bag light. Thanks in advanced for your help.
Does this go for transmission fluid?
Great video & info, can you tell me what parts are genuine OEM for my 2011 BMW N54 engine, need serpentine belt & tensioner. Thanks
We have the Genuine, OE and OEM versions all tagged on the site! Genuine will say Genuine BMW, and OE or OEM will have blue tags that state it.
Great video! 👍🏻
But what is OEM, is that equal aftermarket product or?
So OE and Genuine are the same while OEM is aftermarket alternative that works to?
OE Parts: These are the same parts originally supplied to dealerships, except with the dealer logos removed. This is done by manufacturers so the parts can be sold outside the dealer network due to licensing agreements.
OEM Parts: Produced by a manufacturer that supplies at least one OE part to a vehicle manufacturer. OEM parts may not have been original to the car, but are held to higher-quality standard compared to aftermarket parts and stringent quality control.
Ok thanks!
You're welcome!
You can improve a car by switching the OE brand too.
do you send to New Zealand?
Excellent video...informative and original...Thank You
You're welcome William
I always thought I had to get OEM because it’s the best of the best. Well, I guess OE is still high quality but wow those are like the same pumps! People pay more for the OEM and get they can get OE cheaper ? Well if that’s the case I’ll get OE if I can expect the same lifespan.
So what is the difference between OE and OEM?
Hi thank you for this video very interesting! Could you please also clarify would the part number stated on the box be same for Genuine and OE ? Or each has its own part number?
Hi Kurt, the part numbers are going to be identical! You can search for a Genuine part number on our site, and it will pull up all of the options available for it (OE-OEM-Genuine-Aftermarket).
@@fcpeuro Allright! And that is true not just for your website but in general right? For example if Porsche has original part number of say, oil filter, as xxxyyy, then if other OE or aftermarket firms will have same part number right?
Please someone can I buy oe control arms for my bmw f10? Which ones from fcp euro to get?
I’m planning to buy oe Bosch fuel injectors for my Cooper s 2011 is worth it and will it preform like the OEM part and will last longer?
Bosch are the ones who make the original injectors for the N18. They should be 1:1 if you were to go to the dealer and pay a bunch more for "Genuine" ones. www.fcpeuro.com/products/mini-fuel-injector-kit-bosch-0261500494kt#description

I just talked to a guy that sounds like he's straight outta germany about some motor mounts. He said they are german mounts not from taiwan or china and they are they same thing. 1 year warranty and $150 cheaper than the cheapest shop I called?
If it's too good to be true, it usually is!
Dorman makes OE quality parts and as they state, if an OEM part has a designed failure, Dorman parts fix that by making their parts with the fixed designed and often better quality than original at a cheaper price! They solve the issues OEM design flaws have....
Thank you! Some one I can understand.
Great vid! Please show to us the list of BMW OEM suspension parts and chassis parts manufacturers
we have all OE parts on our site marked as OE so they're easy to find, no list needed!
@@fcpeuroThanks a lot! definitely will become a costumer. Do you guys ships to Brazil? Thanks in advance.
I only mess with 10+ year old BMW... but are these water pumps friggin $400-500 because they are current gen or is that the direction we are going with BMW?
Hello Jared, the electric water pumps that BMW uses in general tend to be more expensive compared to a regular pump because of the design.
For Mercedes control arms: TRW VS LEMFORDER?
Lemforder is much better
@@ALEXIMO78 Thanks. I think so too. What is so strange is my 140 came with TRW from the factory, but my 123 came with Lemforder.
My want buy genuine part whst u sell genuine or after msrket?
Both!
The logo wasn't even ground off. They put stickers over it. 🤣
Do what you gotta do to pass I guess lol.
🤣
How we know mark of first install parts?
You mean parts on the vehicle from the factory? Those will typically be genuine branded, but a lot of parts have manufacture date stamps
@@fcpeuro example, i need cran pulley for bmw e46 how i know what marks is om? Its Starline, swag, febi blisten, corteco?
The video is misleading people into believing parts are 99.9% equal, minus the removed logo ... where in fact it is mostly hit or miss lottery
😂
It should be genuine vs OEM
People don't realize that no manufacturer make any parts. They have Bosch or someone else Making parts. BMW Mercedes other car manufacturers just put it in thier box or container. Even oil
Very good info
Thanks FCP for the useful information. Could you please suggest reliable oem wholesale dealers from Germany or EU. I want to import to Qatar. Please provide me some reference. Thanks All
always shop for my car parts with fcp nothing but good parts
Thank you for the support Lou. We appreciate it!
I still feel like genuine Volvo parts would be better , they are so expensive though...
Volvo don't make the Parts they 'source' or contract out the making of same from a same off their third party manufacturers ...got a O.E.M. Spec, rear wheel bearing Hub assembly with had an Abs Sensor that was moulded onto same, which come from Sweden made by 'SKF' ordered same off Proxi British Website but the Warehouse and the Main Company was in fact out of Germany.... for my Hyundai I20 for 80 Euro delivered to Ireland, the Main Dealer was wanting over 350 Euro plus tax, this Korean car was assembled in wait for it...Poland... www.autodoc.co.uk/skf/1363073
Genuine => OE > OEM
Turn down the music in the background, it's disturbing
So I understood , OE - OEM is the same ( model ´n quality ) and not difference , the only thing this would be a way to company manufacturer control selling parts, from company it´s self and from dealers , OEM (original equipment manufacturer) sell from direct manufacturer OE (original equipment - for dealers resell) sell from dealers. that´s it =)
Also aftermark, company who make ´n sell parts not made from original facturer, could be better or worst part quality, so an aftermark part of very old car or motorcycle could be better and solve a comom specific problem, also could has not good quality like OE, that´s a knife of two sharp surface =)
video is too imprecise; speaker says "oem" for example, even though video is labeled "oe".
genuine = original equipment used in the factory + branding (e.g., BMW logo stamped into metal)
OE = original equipment used in the factory (most of the time) without branding (though, while fairly rare, some sites lump genuine parts into the OE group)
OEM = original equipment manufacturer; a part made by the same people as the OE part, but not guaranteed to be 100% like the OE part (and hell, sometime the OEM part is superior to the OE part... e.g., sometimes genuine/OE parts are improved over time)
Internally can be different
well. ...have got shock where made by KYB. they make originally for toyota. but get kyb online for your car and get direct from toyota. will see difference outside only plus toyota logo or sticker, thats it. but bigger surprise is ride quality. is like water and fire. same make. same ‘’quality’’ ??!! well you get what you pay🤪🤪🤪
Get rid of the music!
