Having been a dressage rider, and having worked for top dressage riders, I can assure you , that this person would have considered the backlash had they come forward at the time. These people with loads of money and power, and there are books written about them and their power, would have scared this individual, as I am sure that they wanted to come forward. I feel that this if timely, as her legal advice has proven, Dujardin is just another one of these trainers that want early results. They don’t give a damn about the horse. They buy horses for hundred’s of thousands of dollars. Not all are bad, but when they get up there, they want to stay up there. I feel that her previous awards should be revolked, and that she never be able to train, or compete ever again. Her Mentor Carl Hester must be devastated, as I recall attending one of his clinic’s and how he trains young horses. He is patient and has a program where the horses are not over worked and enjoy a lot of time in turn out. This is a complete disgrace, and it should be addressed and she should be ashamed.

As long as the FEI doesn't start seriously punishing behaviour like this, it will continue.
What did that guy last year get, after it had been proven that he constantly abused the horses under his care? A two year starting ban...
Well, how about a life time ban, all trainer licences revoked permanently, any students taking lessons from them facing the same consequences, and any horse in which the abuser had any part in training or breeding never getting a FEI registration. In other words - remove those abusers from any possibility to partake in professionel riding.
Even this will probably not prevent horrors like that from happening 100%, but it will at least decrease it significantly.

The rider had booked a training week with Charlotte, and as a youngster she believed that the training was normal after all she was being coached by the best rider in the world. It was only when she was grooming said horse that he was averse to having his back legs touched, this had never happened with him before the whipping training lesson. She then realised that something was not right. In the video you can clearly see the horse kicking out and reacting against the whip abuse.

What angers me is that people call out blatant abuse like hitting hard with a whip, and yes that is a good thing to call that out but there's more "subtle" forms of cruelty to horses that is far too normalised... Like the use of harsh bits and horses heads being pulled behind the vertical almost rollkur like, the extreme frothiness from the mouth is NOT a good thing. If FEI truly cared they would penalise that, and ALLOW bitless and bridleless to be an OPTION... FEI doesn't really care, they just care about how they look because everyone can see blatant abuse such as what Charlotte has done.

@bristolguy45 the thing is, the correct way to use it, is as a communication tool. You should use it as gently on a horse as you could on a human. You shouldn't ever be pulling back to get momentum. Think touch rather than hit.
A whip like this is a flexible stick with a little bit of string on the end. The whip should be held in such a way the string tickles the horse, or moves around behind them to make a swishing sound.
You could use a rope to swing around if you were herding horses (say bringing a bunch in from a field) but you use it to make yourself bigger, you might let it fall on a horse but it's the force of gravity that moves it, so it falls on them rather than strikes them.
You have a jumping crop, which is the short one you might have in your mind from... non equestrian activities between consenting adults... that one you might use more firmly in front of your leg when riding, but you don't pull back first, and you could tap your own leg as hard as you'd tap the horse. You hold it along with the reins and only use a slight movement of the wrist.
