I don't think they ever said Billy had to stay on Aquitar forever. They just said that he had to go there to be cured. Maybe it was instant or took time but after awhile he was able to come back is my guess.
I love that they used the past rangers voices for certain parts.
I watched that episode recently and they tried to cure Billy on Earth in the Command Chamber, but it didn't work. So the Aquamarians/Alien Rangers took Billy back with them to Aquitar for more aggressive treatment and then send him back to earth after they had cured him, but instead he chose to stay on Aquitar because he fell in love with the Aquamarian scientist that was treating him.
Apparently Zordon's Z-Wave didn't destroy evil it just scattered that evil essence out of people and Across the Universe.
That actually makes more sense considering there's other evil people in the universe.
Apparently the evil he scatters is sentient. And it remembers everything from when it was whole.
Rita's evil essence in particular came back and inhabited Alpha 8. And that's how she came back.
I had always theorized with why there was still evil after zordon's sacrificed got rid of it was...the rangers were beacans. the wave only reached a planet or place where someone at the time was tapped into morphin grid. which if you look at all the battles there were rangers there

If he could get zordon back it makes sense rita could come back

51:43 That was a nice touch to Lost Galaxy. And i got confused as you but Mirinoi is from Lost Galaxy, Edenoi is the planet from Dex /Masked Rider. Don't worry, just googled to be sure. I pretty much had the same thought and reactions as you man 🙌🏼. Loved the special as I've already said ❤️
Last thing: when Billy said May the power protect you in my head there's your "and see ya next time on the sixth ranger" XD
You must have missed the part where Rita's energy comes out of Zordon's tube and possesses Alpha 8's body. That is why Rita was a robot.

Billy when he went to aquitar in zeo"rangers of two wolds part 2" right at the end they had a transmission saying that Billy was young again and that he was staying on aquitaine.
Having to take in the presence of other absent actors is very reminiscent of that awkward stretch when Austin, Thuy and Walter left but their replacements weren't in place yet.
I recently rewatched mmpr and totally see the stretch of episodes where they do this! Old footage and body doubles. As a kid I never noticed. I hope they do more of these!

I agree but understand why other actors outside of MMPR weren’t included. A tight 60 min doesn’t leave much time for cameos, also budget. They kept it MMPR actors only & I appreciate the effort in including Aisha & Adam.
The power coin cloning tech is skirting the line of what Finster5 was doing in Shattered Grid… Billy did take back Trinis morpher at the end… 🧐 something to chew on.
He did say she was grounded 😂 I thought it was just weird continuity that it was in his hands then he brings his hands up from the table... but maybe he just pocketed it?

I was welling up when they first did the group morph, and was in buckets after the first few lines of the song at the end... really enjoyed it
