I sew bags rather than garments right now. I love PDF patterns because they take up limited space in my overstuffed sewing room and I know if something happens to a piece I can just print another one. I print them onto card stock which is more durable than paper and easy to trace around onto fabric. I do have some paper patterns that I have been afraid to try for fear of “ruining” the pattern. I really need to try tracing them onto paper which would allow me to keep the original safe.

Paper patterns. I’m not really happy with the cost of PDF by the time. It’s more than twice what the paper costs. Trace and Muslin! Always.

Enjoyed hearing your talk about your process. As a long term viewer, was challenging myself to guess your response! 🌺

1a) Both, but I'm trying to use my stash more. Though I did get a couple of Mood gift cards for my birthday that are crying out to be spent once I finish my jacket project. 1b) Paper. 1c) Tracing. 1d) Muslin.
2a) I love my browsing my local fabric shop, but they have inconvenient hours, so I shop more online. 2b) Wovens. 2c) Tumble-dry to pre-shrink the fabric, line-dry the garment. 2d) Rotary more than scissors, but not exclusively so.
3a) Follow the pattern. 3b) Bias tape. 3c) Depends on the fabric. 3d) [Flees in terror] 3e) Hand-sewn buttons. 3f) Fusible. 3g) Snip as I go. 3h) Press as I go.
4a) Daytime seamstress. Give me all the light! 4b) Is slow and sporadic an option? 4c) Tidy as I go. My sewing area is a small corner of the dining room, and if I hadn't trained myself to put tools and notions back in their homes immediately after using them, the clutter would take up all my workspace. (There was also the matter of the rather painful fall onto the hardwood floor after stepping on a piece of slippery fabric while trying to dash into the kitchen to deal with a pot that was boiling over.)

I agree with everything you said. Wash what will be washed, woven fabric, scissors, lined dresses and the cost of PDF. I like printed better.I will star tracing my newer patterns from now on…I was just too lazy to trace. I prefer serging though.

I think I totally agree with you on everything but one. I mean, you do realise that a transporter quite literally disassembles you on an atomic level and then reassembles you at the destination? And that even though there are redundant systems they can all fail? I mean, Spock's mother! Yes I do love shopping in person for fabric but not sure I'm ready to trust my existence to a transporter. 😉🖖😂. But beyond that, totally agree except for the french seams. For the rest we are sewing twins.

If Star Trek technology did exist, you could just use a replicator to create the exact fabric you wanted (assuming you still want to sew if you could just replicate the exact garments you wanted) 😄

@@chlomo2618 True. But only if you were on the ship in space. I'd want to still go to a shop on a planet to get the actual fabric. IN A SHUTTLE. It's all about the experience 😉😁

Have to agree with a full lining ...
Dresses made from woven, french seams. Knit serged.
And broke the button yesterday my machine😢

This is quite fun! I recently was given my Grandmother's serger, I haven't been brave enough to use it. It has black thread in it and I did buy some white cones today. I'm hoping to sit down and use it soon! I actually found the manual for it online and I printed it out. I am an all day seamstress. I will sew in the morning or afternoon and if I cannot sleep, you will find me at 2 am sewing. I am a one big cleaning session. I make a mess and before starting a new project I clean everything up.

I understood the "snip as you go" as snipping threads as you go when I saw the questions.
I would say uour preferences do not surprise most of us 😃

Could snip as you go mean thread ends?

    Let's see...
    1) (i) Shopping new (my stash is small to non-existent). (ii) Both; but I'm cheeky and print .pdfs of at work! I quite enjoy the puzzle aspect of assembling the pdfs, you definitely notice the difference between brands though! (iii) Cutting every time. (iv) Go for it! But have been measured by a friend, and check the garment dimensions before starting. I also don't go for a figure-hugging fit with non-stretch wovens.
    2) (i) Online. I've got a few favourite places that I know have good materials and photography, and get samples before indulging in something expensive (like coating wool). (ii) Both. (iii) Tumble dry. (iv) Scissors (classic Fiskars).
    3) (i) Depends; if I don't like the pattern method I'll use one I know works. Like enclosed finishes, happy hand-sewing. (ii) Depends. Also like lining. Facings where essential (as on a lined jacket). Bias taped hems. (iii) French (or felled). Never serged (don't own one). (iv) Zip fly. (v) Hand-sewn buttons (most recent were jacket buttons, with plain reinforcing ones on the inside, plus matchstick spacers!). (vi) Fusible, but woven cotton fusible is a game-changer (you don't melt it). (vii) Mark at the beginning, snip curves as required. (viii) Don't Cross the Streams (i.e. bulk pressing when viable).
    4) (i) Daytime, I'm not a night owl. (ii) Steady (may keep going for a while though). (iii) What's tidying? (but seriously, my work desk and my sewing desk are the same piece of furniture, computer monitor at one end, machine at the other. Desk is 142 cm wide 50 cm deep Ikea MICKE). Sewing machine at right hand end, to give the largest working space for sewing ;-)

I’m in Swindon and we used to have 2 fabric shops but now only 1 and the selection is…. not the best. I had this thought that I should be the change I want to see and open a fabric shop hehe, not that I have any knowledge of fabrics or retail or business owning….

I was curious to see what my answers were:
    1. Use what I have but some things require new. 2 clothing patterns-paper, bags and accessories-pdf is fine. 3 tracing. 4. Wearable muslin definitely.
    1. In store always. 2. Knits I think?😂 3. wash all the fabrics and normally tumble dry. 4. Rotary cutters.
    1. Uhhh both😅. 2. Facing or lining. 3. Serged seams. 4. Zip fly. 5. Machine. 6. Fusible. 7. As I go. 8. Press at the end😅
    1. Late night. 2. Both. 3. Both depends on what I'm making
