      It wouldn't be a marriage-ender itself (it's a disagreement, no matter how much of a bunch of tw*ts he and his family are) and to think so is just silly and a significant overreaction. However, it evidently did, judging from the divorce a year later, indicate that there were significant underlying problems in the marriage/their relationship itself: basically as a symptom, not the cause.
      That's a pretty good red flag that the marriage was pretty toxic. Good on her for breaking out.

      i would've slapped him after hearing he not only was he aware his family was bashing his wife hardcore but he just joined in and let them do it after she actually worked really hard..

      @@KimPossibleShockwave No. He is literally talkin trash about his wife to his family. And saying that if he knew she were this stupid he wouldn't have married her.
      That's divorce worthy.

    • @KimPossibleShockwave
      @KimPossibleShockwave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@sadpotato3386 That's a massive over-reaction in itself and you sound very divorce trigger-happy. If anything I'd say this is a sign that they'd needed extensive counselling.
      If other people could repair a marriage after something more serious like infidelity (which I personally disagree with, but that's digressing), I'd say that faults like this could be fixed if this were the extent of the underlying problems they had.
      However, given the marriage collapsed under a year later, that'd indicate this behaviour was the tip of the unseen iceberg and that the marriage couldn't be saved.
      Divorce was the only option in this case.
      But to divorce only because of this symptom, without trying to fix things first? Calm your divorce-boner.
      Now, if it'd been physical/emotional abuse, I'd agree that divorce as a first option would be the only viable course, but all we've seen is that her ex-husband is an unworthy, conniving rat, slagging his wife off behind her back to appease his equally rattish family.
      Despicable, but not auto-divorce-worthy in itself.

      Honestly I don't really blame the parents for disliking the guy, someone who did drugs and has been arrested before? R/ is right when he said OP's dad was giving out red flags, and just because their relationship worked out fine in the end (I assume) doesn't mean the 'conservative' parents were in the wrong to be suspicious of him. And right after convincing her to drop out of college, let alone Duke? That'd be a yikes from me

    • @MikayaAkyo
      @MikayaAkyo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      Yeah, i'd be pissed too and an important note to make is that they disliked him and the mother just tried to intervene by being a bit wary of the guy and saying that they're not allowed to sleep in the same room until they're married while under her roof.
      With no word did she say he wasn't allowed in the house. With no word did she try to tell her daughter to stop sleeping in the same bed while NOT under her roof.
      But yeah, i'd be pissed too if some ragged down, hippie with a criminal record who fled the country because he was going to get arrested again, made my daughter drop out of a very hard-to-get-in School just to hitch-hike with him throughout the country.
      Pissed, but still somewhat accepting. I'd be a bit rude and try to shove in rules. probably just to test how much they actually love each other and if her Boyfriend would have the endurance to stick up to my BS and stick to her.

      @@EE-jo5pt my mom literally married to a random person who proposed to her the same day he met and knew her for the first. My dad found my mom's name in the newspaper, looking for a date. Bit of backstory, my mom was breaking up with his since childhood boyfriend because my grandad didn't approve him, as he was a cop. My grandad absolutely forbid anyone in my family to have a connection with military or cop as it was dangerous job back then and my grandad was former high ranking military and didn't want my family to experience what he had experienced and how painful it was for his family especially my grandma. So as a joke, my mom's friends put up her name in a newspaper matchmaking rubric and my dad, who was living thousand kilometer away from my mom, sees it, and come to my mom's house and proposed to her, that very day. He was in his late 30s, he was no one, had no job, not a handsome guy at all, extremely skinny, just like a lower class person overall. I don't know what gotten in my mom's family back then, but they agreed as my mom said she would marry him. He get back to his place, a week without any means of communication has passed, he came back, somehow set everything ready, and they married the very next day. Good thing they still together to this day after more than 30 years, and my dad got a wonderful job for solid 30 years that gives me and my siblings chance to live very comfortably with anything provided. My mom said "i was betting on luck and just go with it as a joke first. Well, i regret no thing" when i confronted her. I wish i was making that up, but this story always revolves around my ears when i was a kid throughout my families, my dad's side, and my mom's side are equally extremely big family, and both family always told the same story everytime i visit them. My 40 or so aunts and uncles, all my grandparents and their siblings, even my way older cousins always said the same stuff. My mom was really gambling on her future

      Snarf McDreary yes! One specific teacher was dumb as hell and tried to fail me my senior year (I have literal proof because the school used iPads for assignments most assignments) by changing past grades in the grade book to zeros after we got them back. Then she would say “okay, bring me the graded paper then.” Like a smug bitch. The tech guy had to step in after I begged my mom to check it out because she figured I just wasn’t doing the work.
      This was all because the first week of school, she tried to take 5 points off of a 20 point assignment because I USED AND OXFORD COMMA. She said it wasn’t a thing and that’s why she marked it off. She REFUSED to talk to me after class about it, so I stood up and read the dictionary definition of an Oxford comma while she was teaching. She was a dumb bitch.
      The tech guy went into both of our iPads and said that she’d been receiving all of my assignments all year, not grading them, giving me a 0, and then telling me she never got them. She didn’t have to change any of my grades back, face disciplinary action, or anything of the sort. She still teaches English to this day.

    Honestly, I'm glad that it presumably worked out for that kid's parents, but I don't blame the grandmother for disliking the guy. Seldom does a story that begins with "My teenager dropped out of college to hitchhike cross-country with a thirty-year-old stoner who is in trouble with the law" end well. Not to mention that I'm sure they were paying a pretty penny toward that education she just casually threw away in the name of love. Asking that they respect the grandmother's religion while staying in her home seems like the mildest possible reaction to all that.

  • @marielaausher

    I also don't think the mom being religious was the main issue. Their daughter dropped out of school, that the parents probably worked hard to provide for her, to literally run from the law with her boyfriend that lived on tent and used drugs (probably distributed them too).I doubt most parents would want that for their kids.

    My partner was working in the DARE program, His Boss wrote up a Memo regarding an upcoming event with a permission slip and instructions for hoe much money the Kids would need for Snacks and souvenirs. It was in a word, Embarrassing, Spelling and Grammar were just horrible, (And this Supervisor was a "College Grad" as well as being a ranking Officer). So, my Partner, doing due diligence, Asked if he wanted to proofread it, or have Him do it before making copies and distributing it to the schools. In an incredibly Snotty tone he was told "It's FINE the way it is, just send it Out"... "umm Lt, you should REALLY Take another look..." "One More word Patrolman (Sneering), And I'll write you up for Insubordination and have you back on a foot Post" (Empty threat, as my partner was one of 2 certified DARE officers at the time, and actually WANTED to go back to patrol, but was stuck until more DARE Bears could be sent to school). So, in the Glorious Tradition of Malicious Compliance, He sent out the memo...as written. less than 5 minutes after they'd gotten to the School the Lt's Wife, who was a teacher called SCREAMING about how "You're trying to make my husband look like an Idiot"..and Shut up when she was told the whole sequence. She personally tracked down every copy, called the other schools to have the secretaries gather up the memos before they could go to the classes, and retyped everything herself, and told my Partner, "From now on, Nod, Smile, and just email ANY memo to me, and I'LL take care of it from there"

    The last couple stories remind me of my own Navy experience. We were in drydock for overhaul, and Seniorchief decided our shop needed new floor tile. We were Electronic Techs, not flooring professionals. We used way too much adhesive, it was sqeezing out between the tiles. Very messy! Yeah. Master Chiefs can be complete dumbasses at times. I remember being FSA during my first deployment and getting all kinds of shit from our CSMC for the smallest of things that were going on. I wasn't even working directly under him, I worked Nights and He worked days.
    I think some Malicious Compliance I had was this:
    So I was the Trash guy for our night crew. We had Midrats (a midnight dinner/Breakfast mix) and Breakfast. We had A LOT of food we'd go through for people who were getting off Watch or that were parts of different Night Crews for other departments (Just as an idea on how much Trash I had to deal with: I'm on a Carrier. We feed all the Enlisted from E-1 up to E-6, so roughly 800/900 people every night.). Needless to say, Waste management became some of my best friends in the time I was working there because I was always on top of my Trash- Going through it, digging out bones, egg shells, plastics, etc. and sorting them properly because we could end up really messing up the Machines if we had the wrong thing in the wrong place.. And if Waste Management goes down- Trash builds up. So I kept on top of my job, got a lot of respect from the CS' I worked with, and even the FSO (Food service officer) and "Suppo" (Supply Officer- Head of the department). However, The Master Chief (MC) didn't really like me because I liked to "skate". Skating really just means dipping out on work to slack off.. Which if you had to drag upwards of 20 40 Lbs-90 Lbs bags of garbage that just leaked nasty crap all over you- You would probably want a break too.
    Back on topic: I was good at my job- Day crew was not. Days decided that they didn't like their jobs, so they ended up having rotating jobs so there was never any real accountability with who did what. Every day I would come back to about 16 bags that were all completely screwed up. I tried fixing them as best I could, and I would complain to my CS1 (We had no Chiefs over looking Night crew, so it was really chill) and he would tell me, "Focus on our stuff. Leave the Days bags alone. MC wants them stored in that room, so leave them and have the Days guys fix them during turn over."
    I decided I liked not doing other peoples jobs. So I would take care of my Trash with the little help I got, and would inform whoever was on Days Trash that day that their bags needed to get looked at and taken out. They. Never. Did. So bags would just sit there, with rotting meats and veggies, to the point that the plastic bags and paper bags would essentially just disintegrate and have nasty ass rotten liquid all over the floor. When MC came to me and asked me how it had gotten so bad, I told him that Those were bags from HIS crew not being gone through and taken care of. He told me that the entire room needed to get cleaned out and I looked at him and said, "MC, we're gonna need a few extra bodies to take care of this. Mind sending me some of your Days guys so I can make a dent before I leave?' He tosses a good 3 bodies at me and we take care of a small chunk.
    When I get back, the pile is even bigger.
    I'm already pissed. Why? because I've been hearing the Day crew say that Night crew is lazy. And also that Nights Trash guy isn't doing his job right. I prided my job while I was FSA, so when MC told my CS1 that we needed to clean out the room- That's exactly what we did. The ENTIRE Mess Deck area had begun to smell like rotten meat.. I'm talking WEEKS in a hot, unventilated room. It got so bad that a group of Female Chiefs (Who had a Berthing next to the Chow line) had to leave it because the smell was to the point they couldn't stand it. The CO and XO came over and asked what the smell was coming from, and why it got so bad, and started harping on our FSO who had gotten dragged down to try and figure out what had been going on. When they asked me, I simply responded, "Day's doesn't know how to do their job, so I have to do it for them. Every bag in here is a Days bag with food from WEEKS ago in FUBR (Fucked Up beyond repair) bags, so I couldn't take them to waste management.
    Needless to say we got the room cleaned out and bleached. I took some picture of the before and after and the difference was night and day. Our MC got chewed out for letting it get that bad and he in turn yelled at the Day crew CS1 for letting it get that bad. After that, they had semi-permanent trash guys for day crew and it got better.. Mostly.
    I'm still pissed that I never got FSA of the Week (It's just a certificate, but it comes with a Duty Day off- Very helpful in liberty ports), but we all knew it was a rigged program. I at least got the satisfaction knowing that I just proved my temporary MC that I wasn't a lazy ass FSA, and was commended for my hard work by the supply officers.
    Also, Fuck you Day Crew.

    My mil asked us to spend Christmas at hers, to stay there because some bastard had broken in to our house on the 3rd dec and burned it down! We were homeless, but she was a nasty woman who hates me, always did, always has, so i begged hubby to stay at my mums instead, but that was a no as 'we always stayed there' yeah, theres a reason for that 🤦‍♀️ anyway Christmas eve i get my son 10months and daughter 3 years to bed and help tidy up dinner stuff. I was starting to cough and get a temp so my mil told me to go have an early night, i must be so exhausted from all the stress and everything, so pleasantly surprised i gave her a huge smile and said goodnight to everyone and went up to bed. I coughed my guts up all night, my hubby was trying to keep me quiet because i would wake everyone up, yeah sorry about that, i was clearly being very selfish. By morning i was snotty, being sick and struggling to lift my head, but as we all know kids dont care about sick parents on Christmas day, so they came in at 7am to ask us if it was time to open presents. I got myself together as best as i could and went down stairs, i had a chair placed away from everyone so i sat on my own in the corner trying to be excited and help my kids open their gifts, all ridiculously noisy ones (she always got the noisy toys thinking it was funny to annoy the parents), ha think she forgot we were staying for a few days. Once presents were done i picked up rubbish and asked if i could help with dinner prep. My mil demanded i went back to bed, i was clearly to ill to be on my feet, so i double checked no one minded and went upstairs to lie down. I could hear the kids playing with their very noisy toys and could hear my mil getting more and more frustrated, she normally lived on her own so the noise was a bit much, noise she created tho lol, so i went back down to calm things down. Now i should explain that she was horrible to her son my hubby, waste of space piece of crap he was according to her, even though he was working, had a house and family, none of that mattered. Me, well i was the lazy fat girl thick as pig shit girl that married him. She would practically inspect our house every time she visited to see if there was any mess she could berate me over. She even bitched about me to a family friend when they were helping us salvage stuff from the burned wreckage because there was a plate under one of the kids beds, that i must have missed the night before the fire. I knew how much she hated me and how much she slagged me off, even to my own friends. She knew they would tell me, but as long as she kept the fake smile on her face, her son wouldn't believe me when i told him, even though he got crap from her too. Back to Christmas day. I was calming the kids down and again told they could handle everything, go back to bed. So i slowly struggled back up the stairs only to hear 'huh lazy bitch!'... she was talking to some other guests that had just arrived as i was being sent back up. I said hi to them, explained the situation and said id see them later. I could hear her going on about how lazy i was and how id dumped the kids on her with their loudest toys all while she was trying to cook for everyone. Their dad was watching them, he didn't hear anything as usual. One of the guests said 'aw she looked very sick, im sure she would have helped if she could', to which she replied 'nope, lazy bitch didn't even offer, she told dad to watch the kids, shes going back to bed, fat lazy bitch, just like her'. I went to be in a state, crying my eyes out, but too sick to even attempt to argue. A couple of hours later hubby woke me up. I asked if everything was ok and he said that everyone had been beaming all day, and how happy his mum was to have us all here. I made it through dinner and socialised with the guest's from across the room. I planned on confronting her about it all, but i just wanted to get it all over and done with and just go home. Fast forward a couple of months our house is repaired and we finally move back in. I told hubby that id had enough of his mother talking about me behind my back, and when she came next i told her too. The relationship had been strained, he had started drinking and getting violent with me, so of course i wasn't going to put up with it, we split and he met someone else the next day lol clearly heartbroken. I started working and thoroughly enjoying my life free of constant crap, but unfortunately my kids weren't spared her fury. My hubby was a sucky husband, but his children were his life. He continued to see them every weds and every other weekend and his mother would always go round to see the kids. She tried to poison them with hateful lies about me, but i dont believe in using my kids as a weapon so i would never say a bad word about her or their dad. I did tell them to speak to their dad about what she was saying, because i knew he wouldn't believe me. They began to dislike her and all the things she was saying about me. They would misbehave for their dad but be angels at home, and she would say i had told them to... nope, i just did what he didn't, i disciplined them. They were polite, always said please and thankyou, they were NEVER spoiled, and they had structured lives, so because of this i had a very easy time with them. But when they were with their dad he let them run riot, eat what they wanted, buy toys all the time and made messes that they wouldn't have to tidy. They were making the rod for their own backs, i didn't have to lift a finger. Fast forward 15 years. They are adults now, one is 18 the other 21 settled in places of their own with their partners and extremely happy. They visit a few time a week in fact they are often here more than at home. We are all very close, always have been. I always made sure i showed them and told them every day how much i love them, and that never changed. Their partners were surprised with how close we all are and how they were expected into the family and loved aswell, cos if me kids love them, thats good enough for me. They call the nan by her first name, they don't talk about her, in fact as soon as they were old enough they told their dad that they wanted nothing to do with her. They see their dad every now and then, but always make sure she isn't going to be there. The hate her, i knew they would one day. She swore i poisoned them against her but i didn't have too, she did that to herself. I got really sick a few years ago, i am disabled now and can't do much around the house, but my kids are here as much as possible to help out and look after me. And thats what happens when you show people love, they love you back. Im just thankful i never have to look at her evil face again. I know its not an exciting outcome, but she got exactly what she deserved, she only has her sons, and they hate her now aswell.

    In my family we sit and watch what everyone gets as the kids (we’re a big family with a LOT of kids, about 10 of them and they’re all under the age of 11, so it’s a hard tradition but it works) read out the presents and help Father Christmas when he visits. We’re allowed to talk and help out so it’s not a strict rule but me and half of the family are extremely sound-sensitive so it’s only a tradition to respect everyone.

    if anyone's interested: Fun story time~!
    My car had broken down outside of an old job one night, (Toys R Us if anyone cares, also dates this story a bit) it was fairly late and on the other side of my city. I knew I was asking a lot but I sent out texts to my friends asking if they would be able to pick me up, offering to pay gas when they dropped me off bc I accidentally left my wallet at my house. most people said no and I was always like "no man I totally understand, thanks anyway". Finally, I call a close friend from high school. And relayed my trouble, asked if they could help me out, offering to pay them gas money. annoyed, she tells me "call a cab." and hangs up. I cut ties and went on with my life. a year and a half later, I'm living in a new city, in a new state when I get a call from my old friend. "h-hey can you run me to the-" I cut her off saying "Call a cab." and hung up.

    For the toilet story. I would have told the guy his same words back, but then wait for a bit as I pretend to leave. Then I would ask him, "What three lessons did you learn today?" If he gives me a hard time, I would remind him who has access to the toilet paper. As needed I would help him figure out the lessons: 1, if there is a sign you should read it and take heed if it warns of no toilet paper; 2, always check if there is toilet paper before doing your business; 3, most importantly, if someone is trying to be nice and warn you of something, if you can easily confirm what they are saying, be polite and thank them after confirming what they said and not to be a jerk. I would await an apology, then toss him a partial roll and a bit that is folded up, wet, and has soap on it so that he may clean himself after he is done.

    That Christmas present one... I can't believe that marriage lasted so long after the first Christmas! If a guy is going to be that cruel and spineless about his wife behind her back, if he isn't willing to stand up for her, then he doesn't deserve her. (And vice versa!) Married people should always have each other's backs.

    Alright, sit down.
    Christmas is about the love you put into it. I can honour tradition, everyone has tradition, but if someone is new to your tradition, don’t hound on them for breaking it by accident.
    Besides. Be happy if you’re given something! Marvel at the wrapping paper! Drink hot chocolate! Cuddle your loved ones! That Christmas could be your last, you never know. Enjoy it all whilst you still can

    how horrible of a person do you have to be to think someone is "domestically uninvolved", "obviously had someone wrap the gifts", etc. BECAUSE HER HUSBAND COULDNT OPEN A DAMN GIFT LIKE ?? bro that would be the best part of my whole life if that happened to be just watching the wife quietly tap the husband and be like "um.. pull the bow" that'd be like an iconic inside joke between both of the families oh my god. the people are so damn judgemental.

      Exactly. At least the guy wasn't doing LSD and his criminal record came only from pot. It's less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes, and it would have only been upgraded to a felony because of bs 3 strike laws. He really wasn't doing anything that was that big of a deal, especially not for it to be the 70s.

    You’re the best, Rslash! Your videos helped me work up the courage to tell my mom to stop being a Karen. That being said, she of course didn’t see anything wrong with her behavior, and grounded me for all of 2020 for “disrespecting your elders” (says the one who practically robbed an elderly man just last month) so I’ll have to catch up on a lot of your videos next year after I get my phone back. I’ll miss you and Yugo! Happy New Year though! I have to give my mom my phone now, so sayonara till ‘21...

    My dad had a boss, who recently passed, but she didn’t like single parents because they usually call in sick more frequently because of their kid, so usually when they have a 2 week notice, she would usually not schedule them for 2 weeks or not give them a lot of hours, she was sweet to me, but I have been told she was sometimes petty, she was around 90 when she passed a few years ago, Since from when I knew her, she was nice.

    How are you going to tell someone you want them to pay money they don't want to. That's like going to the holiday inn and the Marriott says " we'd really like it if you paid for a room with us and stay here, please cancel your other accommodation"

  • @chrisd322
    @chrisd322 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I relate way to much to that Christmas story. My dad’s side of the family are so crazy. I grew up with severe body image and self confidence issues because all they’re good at is gossiping about each other and they are not afraid to talk shit about my mom in front of me. They are notorious for giving me and my mom horrible Christmas presents (used nail files, half used body wash, hotel shampoo and mostly skin care my mom and I can’t use cause we have sensitive skin, something they know) and they put tons of effort and time into everyone else’s gifts. My mom is very British and I’m just like her, I’m also very bisexual, something they don’t know, and they are very openly homophobic, racist and sexist. I’ve grown up listening to their bs and have even been called an “emo freak” by my aunt just because I wear a lot of black and was antisocial around them. Thankfully for a few years now I’ve stopped caring about them and their opinions.
