Sponsored by www.couponsoffe... (Free Digital Coupons), www.buttinseat.com (For Auto Dealers) and www.ANProximity... (Mobile Advertising). Caught in Newport Beach, CA the 2011 Kia Optima.
This updated version of the Optima from last years is pretty attractive-looking in my opinion. I own a 2007 Sonata based on the experience of a rental/loaner car my wife drove in 2006 from a dealership where I had my own car getting worked on. She was so impressed with that years' (2007) Sonata, we went ahead and bough...t one with 7 miles on the odometer. I am very impressed with this new Optima. Instead of owning a diesel-powered car, which I really would love to do, I would buy this instead.
Never thought about owning a Kia till now. This car looks way better than my current Acura and has more features, such as heated front AND rear seats and the ventilated front seats. plus, i'm sure the price would be way less.
This is basically a sportier, smaller version of the Hyundai Sonata, which I found to be quite enjoyable on the road. Can't wait to test out the turbocharged versions of both cars.
No 4wd. SE and XE are Turbo's. From the cabin, the turbo sounded smooth and beefy. I was impressed. The push button start is so nice. I didn't like the door handles (should be flat black) and round gas cover (should have been rectangular to fit the car's lines). The plastic trim around fog front lights were out of proportion (too thick). I don't think I would get the dual sunroofs. The seats were rather flat, unless you have a wide butt. Will test drive in a few days and excited!
We own one. Love it inside-out. Very solid interior and handling, great seats, spacious, you'd think it costs way more. Easily better than any Camry, Fusion, Malibu, Altima, or even Accord; I highly recommend it.
I was thinking of getting a Camry... then I saw this car. If this car had an Audi or MB badge on it, it would have cost $50K. I love the features like nav, pano roof, heated front and rear seats, and power folding side mirrors, and all for $30K? I'm sold, and I don't care if it's a Kia. This car should be compared to Audis and Beemers, not Camrys. Way to go Kia!!
@in2dadark This has to be a preproduction version. The EX does not come with those wheels as far as I know (only on the SX in the touring package?) And the EX would have stitched leather on the dashboard, not silver plastic. Also, in order to get the panoramic sunroof, included in the package is 'wood trim' .
Awesome, looks like US gets the gauges with the inset computer. Also, is this an EX 2.4 or an EX Turbo? The SX has the "slicer" wheels and xenon headlamps.
@piratose0 that sound is the works of a direct injection system, although it may sound ugly, the trade off is better performance. I'm sure the annoying ticking noises go away when you drive
@05Forenza The engine and trans are directly from the hyundai sonata... the body is from kia... small differences... but ii know the sonata has proven to be very reliable since it's been out since february...
The Optima is heavier and has slightly worse fuel economy than the Sonata. The good thing is that the extra weight is actually used to make the car safer. The Optima has better ratings than the Sonata on safer car dot gov and gets excellent scores on the IIHS website as well. The new 2012 Passat does look really cool to me though as it has a DUAL CLUTCH (DSG gearbox) just like super expensive Ferraris and Bugattis and the Passat is available with a WELL OVER 40mpg Turbo Diesel as well.
After looking at this car I'm really having second thoughts about buying a malibu. Kia's only been out for a little over 15 years, do they make reliable cars? If so I'll buy one of these.
@05Forenza OK, well thanks for the reply. I would have never thought that the car that had everything I needed for a great price would have been a kia. I guess its true what they say, "Only in america". You take care of yourself.
lol yeah right I got a 2011 Optima to rack up the miles on as a daily driver for work, paid $22k, put 40k miles on it in a year and just sold it for $18k. Win.
This is not a proper EX. As stated below, the EX would have stitched leather dash and leather wrapped steering wheel. Also, the standard wheels are different than the ones in this video (at least they were different on the EXs at the dealer near me).
@cheeseburger9418 No FWD only, maybe for 2012 theyll offer a AWD package and 5spd Manual for the turbo too. i might just wait until they offer a AWD, of course, that comes at a price of fuel economy
Trust me not the 2011-2013 current model they hold their value now used 2011 models are priced between $18,500- 21,000 and they sell very well even better than its predecessors.
@choiyn98 The Sonata had a lot more time and effort put into it than this. It is expected to appeal more to the Camry crowd. This is Kia's offering and I don't expect it to sell very well.
I think everyone needs to give a big thanks to South Koreans for giving the everyday man a luxury car for a very reasonable price. During a time when union workers/ corporations are making a killing, we are damn lucky there are two companies willing to keep the price low and designing cars with us in mind 100%.
Respond to this video... umm i personally love hyundai and kias and i am considering buying one so im not trying to 'dog' kia, but i kno a bad door sound when i hear it and having the window down is not gonna comprise door sound. the door sounded like it did on a toyota corolla. and a video is not gonna compromise door sound again just because its a video sure it might a little but its not gonna do it much espesially when it was both doors
it looks 10x better than the older model but it is a kia and depriciates like 70% of its value by 2013. Just not worth it for me. I am looking at the Altima '12.
stunning car - those who own accord or camry are surely pissed off as to why they paid so much more for their plastic junks. they wont admit and hence you read comments like shit, ita a kia and more. in a matter of few these kia and hyundai will rule the world (in budget car category ofcourse)
@GriffonRed Well, if I know anything about cars, the Malibu is probably one of the worst options. Kia has come a long way in a very short time. Reliability is sortof unknown with this model as far as I know. I believe the engine, transmission and just about everything else are all brand new designs.
@Tommos34 Hyundai is close cousin of Kia. And check this out. blogs . automotive . com / 2011-hyundai-sonata-gls-ahead-of-toyota-ford-chevy-in-resale-value-11303 . html
It's like they took design cues from 5 other cars and mashed it all into one. I see a Camry/Corolla/Fusion front, Jaguar XF tail and an Audi dashboard. No creativity at all!
Lol.. they should have saved this design for the redesigned Hyundai Sonata... and switched with kia getting the new sonata's design... because this car looks 10 times better than the new sonata. Kia is supposed to be the "economy" brand under Hyundai, right? This new optima is making me really want one... I hate the new sonata look. It looks like a pinched turd, lmao... sorry, but thats the only way I can describe it lol
@lMSwarior oh shut up. Who wouldn't rather have BMW than KIA. And who wouldn't rather have ferrari to BMW and so on. Not everyone can afford BMW. Stop comparing economic car to an expensive car.
Kia? Thats a Kia? They put a decent line of engines in it too. Ill actually consider this as a option! I'm impressed.
One thing that I like is its design. "Futuristic"
I used to hate on Kia back in the day...but this car is sexy, going to have to go testdrive one.

@piratose0 that's the unique sound of the direct injection..
This one has the wheels that come on the SX but I think it is an EX, because there is no sign of the paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
This car actually pretty nice....
What a nice car! 32.000$ in my country! too bad they don't bring the 1.7 diesel version down here.
@MrRamo85 yeah, the SX model has the LEDs.
@vipermoon64 this is the ex version. Essentially the mid-tier model that will start in the 22k-23k range.
@05Forenza the EX does come with this wheels... standard
@solaprose agreed should be blue interior lighting like the hyundai.
i really want one!
@KatiushaVN4 paddle shifters are available on the turbo charged sx model
@KatiushaVN4 it does have paddle shifters
it would be much nicer if there is s/th to cover the cup holders in the front

Can easily be mistaken for a luxury car. A good one.
But I have a question, it seems fully loaded and such, but wheres the leather steering wheel?
@05Forenza OK, well thanks for the reply. I would have never thought that the car that had everything I needed for a great price would have been a kia. I guess its true what they say, "Only in america". You take care of yourself.

which is a better ride? Optima, Lancer, or Elantra?
how did you get those big wheels on the non-turbo model? or did you just swap them?
@whiteapplemacbook I'm not so surprised that it looks like an Audi, I mean Audi's designer did design it, and thats not a bad thing either.
@ewd31989 it does have aux port and usb port
This is not a proper EX. As stated below, the EX would have stitched leather dash and leather wrapped steering wheel. Also, the standard wheels are different than the ones in this video (at least they were different on the EXs at the dealer near me).

thats a really sport sedan ...nice ...better than d sonata 2011
What's all the fuss about push-button start??? My dad had it in his 1957 Dodge.
No aux port?
@qreqorious true but i like the new mazda. i think is a 3 its got like sort of a hatchback style back. 4wd really sexy car.
some one reply! does this optima come in 4wd?
Dear Santa...
Trust me not the 2011-2013 current model they hold their value now used 2011 models are priced between $18,500- 21,000 and they sell very well even better than its predecessors.

@kalargyi it starts off at less than $20k.
Looks better then the new BMW

@qreqorious yeah cause i live on a hilly state and im not tryin to buy a new car and getting stuck in the snow
@MrSinister99 did i hurt your feelings ? i would do that, im driveing vw and bmw, so im never gonna have kia, but its a great car
why does it sound like that?
Although they are from the same company, I probably would pick the Sonata over this one.
@KatiushaVN4 paddle shifters are for babys
looks like a new Acura.
why does this get a pano sunroof BUT THE SONATA DOESNT WTFFFFFFFFFFFF
the only thing that WOW me about the car is $30k price tag, WOW. for a KIA (for a soldier this is a bad sign)
wow thats really nice car for that money, would take that over ford or any American car in a heart beat
it looks 10x better than the older model but it is a kia and depriciates like 70% of its value by 2013. Just not worth it for me. I am looking at the Altima '12.
i hope this cars value depreciates just like the older optimas.. so i can buy it used for cheap..lol
@cheeseburger9418 oh yea def would get an awd like subaru or sumthin then
stunning car - those who own accord or camry are surely pissed off as to why they paid so much more for their plastic junks. they wont admit and hence you read comments like shit, ita a kia and more.
in a matter of few these kia and hyundai will rule the world (in budget car category ofcourse)
@05Forenza *these
Nice - but engine is kinda loud - it sounded like diesel engine
seriously? 5 minutes and 37 seconds and not a simple profile view?
also they need economic plane
@firefirespitfire Direct Gas Injection (GDI)
@contractki11er
thx frnd ,,,,
@AntDX316
wtf... the optima it´s a great car, but come on... the bmw 5-series its in another league dude

the engine sounds like a swing machine...

Same engines as the new Sonata.
what is with the sound of those doors?!?! yuck
😁
i have to pee......
Love VW's but will never buy a car created by Hitler. Id get one of these assuming the reliability is on point.
It's like they took design cues from 5 other cars and mashed it all into one. I see a Camry/Corolla/Fusion front, Jaguar XF tail and an Audi dashboard. No creativity at all!
