Love your videos! Just a note for other R170 owners - I have an '03 and the bolts holding the compressor on are E10 (female torx)... Because it is recessed in the back of the compressor, I had to drain and remove the power steering hose to get a socket on it for clearance. Then had to refill with power steering fluid and bleed the system. Not difficult and im glad i did this because the PS fluid was nasty! Hope this might help others with the '03!

Great video, same car as mine!! They're getting rare to see on the roads now. The ac was designed to run all the time to chill the fuel right before entering the injectors for added horsepower. After many years it simply wears out. Thanks for mentioning the dryer, people gloss over that part.

    Hi Clint,
I really enjoy your videos! I have a 2004 SLK230 that I bought after selling a 1998 that I owned for 10 years. I do my own maintenance and have found your videos to be very helpful. Thank you!

Clint I see you removed some additional parts off the front which made it a little easier to take out the compressor. I didn't remove my radiator, fan, or overflow tank and pull it from the bottom.

Great video. But Ive been searching everywhere ...where does that wire to a/c compressor clutch go to ?
What module or fuse location can you measure that 12vdc voltage, my clutch wire fell off and now reads 9 vdc.

I have a 2005 Crossfire 3.2 v6 I assume this is the same set up ? my Compressor locked up and I have seen the whole kit on ebay for $264. free shipping. But i have read that you should replace all washers and even the oil inside the new compresser with new oil and even the condenser because of metal pieces from the ruin compressor could be in the system. i also have seen on youtube the expansion block on the fire wall should be changed as well with a locked up compressor. i wish I could find someone local to me to do this the Chrysler dealer wants $800 just for the labor. I live in Upper Maryland. I am sure I could do it but its a lot of work and since I just had the system charged I wish I knew how to remove the new freon and save it for the rebuilt system.I just paid $175 to have the system vacuume checked and new freon. What a waste !!

You can go to the shop that filled your system and explain the situation. They should be willing to evacuate the system, let you make the repairs then re-install the original refrigerant. I have done it this way. If you ask nicely it should not be a problem. good luck.

What type of refrigerant do i need for the same car?

I'd double check that with your local service shop. I didn't fill the system myself so I have no idea....
