  • In this Episode, Jeff goes off grid to explore the idea of carving from his sailboat.. Join in on the introduction to Lake Pend Oreille, a really special place only a short distance from Jeff's home studio in Northern Idaho. Lake Pend Oreille is pronounced ( Pond-Oh Ray ) I believe it's a french /Canadian thing :) The lake is the fifth deepest lake in the USA and at 1158 feet it's also home to a U.S. Naval base for submarine acoustic research. With Sandpoint Idaho at its Northern boarder, and Bayview at its Southern border, there is 111 miles of shoreline to explore.
It's more important than ever to disconnect from day to day life and change up your routine. The break allows you to rest your mind and restore your spirit. For me there is most certainly a deep connection with the things of creation and God's provision, and I want to be reminded of that as often as possible. It's been a dream of mine for years to own a sailboat and have the freedom to explore for more than a single day. "Raven" ...my Nor' Sea 27 sailboat is just that vehicle for transporting me into wild places and spending more time in nature. Subscribe and Follow along as next week Jeff carves off grid from somewhere on lake Pend Oreille.

Hi Jeff! Nathan here, I believe we stayed the night next to you in Buttonhook around Labor Day. I thought Raven might have been a restored older wood boat but you explained she's a fiberglass hull. We were on the Ranger 8.5 Orange Crush II. I relate to you in the sense I had never sailed a sailboat except for one afternoon at a camp called twinlow in Twin Lakes, ID when I was a kid. I also prefer to learn on my own/as I go. Anyways, Merry Christmas, happy new year and I hope to see you again on the water! Until then- Nathan.

I slept since Oct. but we did notice a sailboat last week. There are not very many sailboats on the lake this time of year so when we saw one trolling between the islands from our house in Hope it caught our attention. There has to be some kind of freedom in a boat on a lake that size with no-one around.

Thank you … I took all the exterior wood down to bare wood and it now has 8 coats of varnish… I intended to put on ten but I lost heart… so much work ! Thx for watching

Loaded question Denise … I think SE Alaska /BC ranks pretty high as it is also home to many of the animals I love most and it offers scenery, subsistence for food gathering, culture and remote experiences

You should do a series of shorts of all the non-carving-related benefits of owning a knuckle boom truck i.e., solo rigging a sailboat.
I need more excuses to buy one 🤣

Your video is awesome Jeff, like a professional. Yes, Pend Oreille is a French word meaning hanging ear, from a east coast French Canadian LOL. Take care!
