I'll keep pushing this wherever I can; make it a team sport + highlight the sheer athletic talent. Teams are easier to follow and root for. I would design a format from scratch and narrow it down to 6 event groups so no one is left out (but it's easier to watch); Sprints Distance Horizontal Jumps Throws Vertical Jumps Hurdles These would be run one after the other so they each get the audience's full attention, and scored like a team-effort decathlon (so every moment means something to the final score). Each event is designed to prove that one team is better than the other (at sprinting, at throwing, at jumping etc), and that the overall winner when all the points are tallied up, has the better athletes. I call it team hexathlon.
I’m sorry but I think you guys are underestimating the nuances f1 has. I don’t mean to disrespect but I don’t really see track and field having the continued evolution that f1 has when it comes to its cars.
I think the problem is that track&field does have areas of evolution (footwear, running mechanics, technology, etc), they’re just less marketable to general audiences.
