@@NurseErica Nurse Erica! How do you know which needle will FIT each syringe? If they come separately, do the syringes sometimes have a head or top part that will not fit the needle?
We got basic knowledge of how to do med math but they never stopped to show us this and for someone who hasn't had any real world job experience as an MA like some people have, this video was a big help so thank you!! I will definitely be watching more of your skills videos🤗
Don’t feel overwhelmed girl! The hospitals are prepared and are aware that many nursing students graduating at this time did not get adequate hands on experience. The residency will definitely prepare you 💕
Thank you for making this very helpful and understanding video. I also did not get enough clinical experience and couldn’t not grasp the gage and sizes but I totally understand now after watching your video!!!❤
Thank you. They literally had us just watch videos from our terrible textbook and expected us to know everything. I was so lost because none of it went into depth about needles.
Thank you so much for this! You are seriously saving me and very easy to follow :')! I am a working new graduate RN and I haven't had much direction from my preceptor with this.
Well, I am 🇵🇷 and from New York so it makes sense. I just brought some jewelry from her xixi line this week🙂 which makes receiving this message so funny to me. Well, I hope my video was helpful😉
@strwbry11 That's great! so happy the video was helpful!!! and thank you for the compliment. Hope your semester is going well. FYI, I posted part 2 of this video (IM injection) today. Subq should be coming soon.
Thank you so much for this. I was with my nurse the other day and I had to push morphine ml and she pulled in a bigger syringe. I accidentally pushed it too fast that my patient felt it. Bad I know. Luckily me, my patient was a end stage cancer patient who was in constant pain and needed morphine with break-through fentanyl dose around the clock. He definitely felt the medication pushed through but if it was in another patient I would have been in big trouble. I see how my nurse didn't set me up for success and I will consider this and question their judgement. I was a Covid student and this was something we didn't go over in lab.
I'm long overdue a Tdap booster. My last was 28 years ago 😲. My doctor and my wife are both bound and determined to make me take it next visit. My sister is an RN and told me the needle will probably be 23G and 1- 1/2" long based on my body mass! I'm dreading it. The nurse at my doctor's office I've been told is quite good giving shots. I hope she's quick, because I am so not wanting this. LOL..I guess the one saving grace is the needle is sharp as a razor, so maybe I won't feel much. The stuff being injected probably stings like hell.
I use 20 gauge needles, and like your patients, I didn't like seeing it at first. Also choose syringes according to how many ml are being administered helped me in accuracy. Like, measuring 1ml in a 10ml syringe is not good, but in a 1ml syringe, I can be more accurate.
Hi, there seems to be so much debate atm with choosing the right needle for lemon bottle fat dissolve. What would you say is the most appropriate needle for that procedure. Many thanks
Thanx alot Please can you help me with that question Needle size is determined by a) gauge and length. b) the size of the barrel. c) its ability to filter. d) the volume of fluid it can draw up.
Thank you for your question Mai. I will have to complete another video for that but for adults it can be 24 to 18G depending on the size of the veins and indication for the IV.
@@NurseErica Hey Erica, today my wife got a tetanus injection but the compounder used a 21g neddle and it was hell painful for my wife. But is there any reason why he gave through a 21g neddle? Tetanus can also be given through 23g neddle?
@@sarveshgoyal2245 thank you for the question.. I am sorry to tell you that it is an appropriate size needle for an adult IM injection. Unfortunately tetanus is an IM medication that hurts.
@@sarveshgoyal2245 oh no... that doesn't sound right for a vaccine. Shouldn't be 7ml. Also, you should not inject more than 2ml in the deltoid. I hope you wife is feeling better, I would talk to her doctor.
None of this was ever explained to me like this and I’m in my last semester of nursing school. Thank you so much! ❤️✨
Same! These schools are so raggedy 😂
Same and amen!!
Same. It was explained to me but not this detailed unfortunately.
Please don’t stop making videos! These are so helpful as a first year nursing student!
Thank you! More videos coming soon!

Can you tell us where you teach, I would like to attend your classes, because I am considering taking nursing.
Thank god for you
Thank God for you 😊
Thanx alot
Please can you help me with that question
Needle size is determined by a) gauge and length. b) the size of the barrel. c) its ability to filter. d) the volume of fluid it can draw up.
Am I the only one who gets chills every time the doctor brings in a plate with a syringe and a vaccine?
I'm sure you're not the only one. Some people can't handle needles or injections.
is 25 gauge needle winged set for infants blood drawn? or should use 23 for infants? thanks🙏🏼
You are so beautiful and amazing teacher
How about if u inject through veins. Which needles suitable?
Thank you for your question Mai. I will have to complete another video for that but for adults it can be 24 to 18G depending on the size of the veins and indication for the IV.
What happens if you use a shorter needle for im injection for a test injection and it didnt reach the muscle. Will the body still take the hormone?
Yes, it just may affect the rate of absorption. If its too short it will go into the subcutaneous tissue.
@@NurseErica Just watched and had the same question :) You're a great teacher Nurse Erica, thank you!
What guage is suitable for hyaron?
(Mesotherapy)
I'm sorry, I am not familiar with hyaron
Wow you so beautiful ❣️
what type of syringe should I use for intramuscular injection?
Thank you woodz, it depends on the volume of medication you will administer.

i cannot extract my medication from the vial with a 22 gauge needle. do you think it’s too viscous, and I need a lower gauge/greater diameter ?
Yes, 20g or larger is best for withdrawing medication. 18 and 20g are great
This is a great series! Thanks! #SimTribe
hottie. Can you make a video on IM injection areas / tips for thigh?
Thanks so much for this video! Helps clear up a lot of confusion! 🤍
