It is the Kobe of ham. I once ordered a plate in Spain and immediately ordered another - It was that good!
Sorry italian brothers, can’t compete with spanish jamón.
Why they playing reggaton while talking about Spain though?
Btw, just come to spain, eat it here and don’t pay an overpriced price for it!
@@KrlKngMrtssn not sure the overall reason but just note reggaetón is huge in Spain.
Because what u had wasn't jamón iberico de Bellota, it was simply Jamón Serrano
Spanish ham is much more than just a meat, it's both culture and gastronomy, it's part of us Spaniards
I have had both prosciutto and iberico, iberico is my favorite. You can taste the black acorns in the meat. Part of the reason Americans don't know about it is because of the importation tax on meat products.
Prosciutto doesnt even compares to iberico i mean it is good but it is like comparing a toyota with a bugatti
@@frooskys22 it is also way more expensive, which I think is why most iberico ham stays in Europe
@@sukaenacornelius9285 that is still really good, especially with some fresh bread
@@pedrozatravel oh yess, i do with bread from my local market, I like this for breakfast. Very great. My husband does not like it, but he alway buy chicharrones his butcher makes the best.
It is a nice video. However the information is not 100% right. The ham with the green label (Cebo de Campo) was not in an acorn diet. Only the red label and the black label had acorn in part (no all) of its diet. They only eat acorn the las 4 months before they are killed. Those 4 months are called La Montanera. The age of cured has nothing to do with the price. All ibericos are cured between 1,5 and 2 years. You don't want to buy a ham that is too cured because it'll too dry and difficult to cut because is too hard.
The answer to whether something is worth it always depends on how much you have.
It is. Its incredible.
Why does she have to say the full name every second sentence and still butcher it like that ham lmao
Just come to Portugal or Spain and I can guarantee you that you won't pay anywhere near what she says in the video.
Yes I know...would be great, however paying 700 for a iberica ham here or paying $5000 minimum for a Spain vacation, not to mention Covid.... That overpriced black label iberico is looking better by the minute!
@@TGravy-wp4rc in spain you can get an 8.5 kilo iberico bellotas black label leg of ham that has been aged for 3 years for $300 usd.
@@TGravy-wp4rc Covid is right now way worse in USA, and If you need to spend 5 grand in Spain on vacation you are really throwing your money...
If you're a fan of Jamon but refuse to pay the insane prices I can honestly say the best Spanish Serrano is up to par with the lowest grade Iberico, and way, way less. My preferred brand is La Hoguera Serrano Jamon, aged 18 months, available in 100gm packages with plastic slices separating each piece. With all Serrano Jamon always go for the cuts where the fat is the most evenly dispersed among the meat, and if you prefer a delicate taste simply cut or slice off 1cm around the edges, that removes the mold/salt/rancid fat. I always do that.
i live in spain and i just ate like a chunk of spanish ham cus here usealy during christmas most familys will get a whole legg and i like it thick tbh like my slices i have no idea people pay like 4k here a leg is like 80
I am Spanish, and of course there are hams for as low as 40€, but real black label jamon iberico will cost you at least 500€ a leg in Spain.
I always use this for my ham and eggs.... really delicious.
In Spain is very common have a “pata de jamón” in the kitchen😅😊
in spain you can get a whole paleta of bellota for about 200 dollars
200 maybe the black label ones, I buy green label paletas for around 80.
Yes, I’m Spanish and I have a paleta and I costed around 85 euros😊
I'm so addicted to it, love it with red 🍷
$1,400 for a ham? I won’t eat that even when I become a millionaire 👀
Move to spain, a 5J in the US is $1400, butbin spain it only 500€. Plus a single plate can be 20€.
You could always buy a reasonable iberico leg which can range from 100€ to 500€
5 jotas (brand shown in the video) is definitely NOT worth that much. And eating 2 of these legs every Christmas (I leg per week, we are a big family) I can tell you anything above $500 is completely stupid and they are overcharging, no matter the breed or food given to the pork or aging.
You forget meat import tax in the US. And the fact that economy is different. 5J might not be thet best ham in the world but it is for sure in the hall of fame and it's a delicious, "safe" purchase if you don't know where to start, and it's probably the best you can get in the US. In Spain you can talk to 200 factories in Huelva or Salamanca and come out with 200 different recommendations. Everybody wants to sell their own product, and the good thing is probably they're all very good if coming from those areas, but some brands like Joselito or 5J are guarantee of excellent quality.
I'm italian, I tasted spanish ham and it's delicious! Italian one is sweeter
I will stick to my Black Forest ham from Aldi.
The taste sells itself
Jamon Iberico De Bellota ...say that 5x fast 😗
AWESOME !!!!!!
Not only Americans, but this is the actual price the people from Spain buys (maybe a little less due to shipping).
600 euros a top iberian ham, you choose, 5J, Joselito, Convap, Sierra Mayor etc
The same 5Js in spain is 500€.
Not a single ham in spain goes above 5, unless a Ferrari is involved xD
No
B-E-L-L-O-T-A, not beiyota
@@RasielSuarez if you want to say it in English, not Spanish though that is for sure
Try Presunto de Porco Preto from Alentejo, Portugal. Thank me later. And don't forget, Iberico means from the Iberic Peninsula (Portugal and Spain).

If that prosciuto cost $1400 than the sardegnan prosciuto should sale for $6000
I just saw the whole video. In no way prosciutto and Serrano are similar.
Just because that ham has a market, that doesn't mean its the best. If you want to look for the best ham, you should go to Sardinia in the mountain villages, where prosciuto is made traditionally by hand. You should try it and you will see the difference.
Couldn't pay me to put all that fat-to-actual-meat-ratio in my mouth or body.
"It melts on your tongue", and goes into your body, straight to blood SLUDGE, into your veins. Ugh!
Not a snowball's chance in that "very warm place" would I put that into my body, even if you shipped me a full, free leg of it.
Ugh!. Gross. I cut the fat off of bacon, chicken, beef, goat, deer, steaks, Elk, fish, pheasant, Cornish Game hens... no matter the meat.
Nothing healthy about eating animal fat, no matter how it is cooked, seared, grilled, roasted, baked, barbequed, simmered, sauted, steamed, smoked...
Ugh!
Couldn't pay me to eat it, even if I trimmed off all the fat personally. Gross. Eeew.
You´ve never eaten it then. It is no different than Salmon or the fat content in Avocados. It in no way compares to what you have described.
Quite the contrary. If you're not eating the fat then like a lot of people you're missing out of an array of nutrition and immense health benefits for the body. Too much lean meat isn't good for health.
Also, many vitamins are fat soluble so by removing this key part, you're food will be lack lustre and you won't absorb much nutrition.
Research "French paradox" for more information.
Finally, the Ketogenic diet, high fat etc, reverses many a disease. Fat isn't the killer. It's the sheer volume of amino acids and sugars and food additives which cause health issue.
In short then...fat is your friend.
I wonder how long would it take you to eat a Kobe beef steak. Remember all the fat streaks intertwined in the meat - that's a ton of work for you.
overrated
Pretty ironic that in spain transportation is limited and I wasted about 2k, $. That country is trash. This segment is trash. I could say pretty terrible thing at this point but will refrain from doing so.
If it's not vegan, it's not worth it.
Ona Fatima shut up and keep your opinion - go and eat some seeds or whatever
@@Limesbund Bro chill, the vegan are not going to take over the country.
Compare spanish ham of bellota with italian prosciutto is like compare the Sistine Chapel with the drawings of your children. Note : I suggest better drink red wine with jamón.
