I love dash but we gotta acknowledge how crazy it is that he catches the tiniest most obscure references, yet didn’t realize he did a part two before a part one until after filming it 😭
well he catches those references after reading the wiki for the episode. references within the reaction he catches maybe 20%. the majority is done in editing. i mean, no complaints, he does a very good job. but the random episode drawbag is the problem. and i can understand that the early stuff is very hit or miss.
I can see his side and I can see the side of criticism.
And you know this information how do you know him personally? Do you make his edits ? @@apple54345
@@apple54345and you know this information how ? Do you know dash personally? Are you his editor?
@FromThe36thChamber What? How is watching something and observing and understanding references have any corelation with someone watching episodes in order. He gets recommend episodes he's not watching season to season ep by ep if you been here long enough you would know that.
@@dragonball4205 its pretty clear, but aslo he catches A LOT without the wiki which is very impressive
"Rated ARG for pirates, F*** you." I will never stop finding this hilarious.
That aggressive transition from just being plain stupid to actually insulting is great.
"The president is a duck?! Or the president is a dog, whatever F*k you!!"
The United States president is a duck?! Or the president is a dog, whatever f**k you!!
There was a four month gap between this episode and 'Assburgers' which is the second half to this two parter. Matt and Trey were burnt out at the time and wanted to end South Park. Thankfully they kept going
Yeh the comment Sharon does at 16:00 or so, about how she don't know how much longer she can keep going, with the same story every week while also getting mroe and more ridiculus.
It is a very meta comment of her from the creators about having to come up with new episodes and that the episodes must all be whacky and new and original and better than the last. The kind of intense pressure to be creative.
That’s not really true. They didn’t want to the end the show and had no plans. The break was their mid season break that they do very often, it’s just the episode and its contents made a lot of fans believe the break was actually because of wanting to end the show
They deserve to do just do what they’ve been doing. Maybe I’m wrong but it just seems like when every they want to, they make another one. Don’t need to commit to seasonal tv anymore.
Personally, I dunno if everyone would consider that "thankful". I think this was for me, about the time I started to just not like South Park anymore myself. So I think they maybe should have retired it.
@@teruienages962 No one’s forcing you to keep watching. I’ve loved a tonne of episodes since this one aired. More episodes existing doesn’t erase the old ones
I love the "things seem shitty" allegory for depression and emptiness
13:31 This pretty much sums up Jack and Jill. The movie won all 10 Razzie awards that year funny enough... 😂
The old guys trying to save the "britches" like they're rescuing children from an abusive household is one of my favorite South Park jokes ever. And no one ever talks about it.
This episode came out the same time I was going through something similar to Stan. It was the most relevant South Park episode to me ever.
Sounds like that's behind you. Hope everything's good now 🙂
I actually teared up at the ending when I was a Freshman in high school.
Everythings better with booze
@@HumungusO_o that is what South Park told me, and they've never lied before... 🤔
Well, I'm an atheist, so time to eat food backwards! ☝️🧐
Definitely! As someone who suffers with low dopamine since birth it’s been extremely heeling for me to see stan go through similar issues to what I’ve experienced on and off with life itself xx
There’s something weirdly wholesome to me about how Cartman and Kyle are just having like an actual friend moment here 5:42 where Kyle is like “oh you gotta check this out this is the part I was talking about” then Cartman agrees it’s awesome 😂 I’d kill for a compilation of just those type of moments
That's quite a short video you'd be committing murder for.
No way I never noticed that Alien in the background.
The references and the little point outs is what makes DASH the best ⭐️
What a hilarious ending bro, thats why hes da goat!
Details! Little details! (chef's kiss) Hahaha
I didn't like the ending. I think I'm getting old...
DA GOAT!
What are you talking about? It was utter shit!
It’s a great depiction of chronic depression. And the hardest part about it is, there’s a lot of truth to what Stan was saying, which is where your mind fucks with you. Because it’s not entirely wrong, but it can become all consuming. You hate that everybody sees life as a Disney movie, and they hate that you don’t.
Absolutely spot on description of my early adult life. Its like someone hit a switch in my brain and everything/ became garbage.
Seriously life is shit
Kyle's attitude toward Stan in this episode REALLY made me angry. Stan is going through feelings of apathy, hopelessness and deep sadness, and Kyle? Well......Kyle just finds that really boring and tiresome, so he ditches him. Best friend my arse.
6:02 Cartman and Kyle are both older than Stan, as they both had their 10th birthdays earlier in the series
I've been lucky. My parents are late Boomers, I'm a late Gen-X guy and they loved listening to Scorpions, Metallica and Nirvana as much as I loved grewing up with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd.
That’s all awesome music! I’m a millennial whose parents are late Boomers and I’ve been lucky too. My parents love all that great music as well. I grew up listening to it.
I got really lucky as well my mom loved current music and was a huge rock fan so she was blasting Metallica then you put on some Queen for a bit then would pop in some spice girls then Evanescence now my dad on the other hand ruined Eminem by singing slim shaddy when it was on the radio that was to much for middle school me and ruined that artist for me lol
Me too
One of my favorite Family Guy jokes was a cutaway to future old man Stewie looking out his window at teens hanging out and he says “Stupid younger generation. Back in my day we had Katie Perry, and Justin Bieber. That was REAL music!” 🤣
Oh yeah that was good😂
Family GUY!? I hate Family Guy!
Cartmans mom is such an enabler
I don’t understand how humiliating her in public is the only way she would stop enabling Cartman.
Tsst showed us why. She's very lonely, and makes no real effort to find new friends or an actually kind and decent boyfriend/husband. Cartman is the only company she has, except the guys she "gets with"........aka clients.
The game they were playing is called LA Noire. It's actually a really great game if you love detective stories.
He literally shows it in the video.
When Kenny said Press X, I hope there's doubt about this game.
Its called engagement brother @-Devy-
L.A. Noire is an easy as cake game, but ONLY if you're just playing to get to the end. Eventually you always solve the case, no matter what questions you ask. But if you're a perfectionist, and want to get a 100% PERFECT detective rating for each mission, then this game can be downright EVIL in its frustration.
The subplot of the dudes trying to save the britches is hilarious
My guy had the pop rocks on deck😂😂🔥
stan’s funniest and most relatable too 😂 thank you for uploading today :)
Agree I am weirdo that likes songs but not bands really. Its amazing how much it bothers people when you don't go out of way to listen to music and how badly they want to convert you. On top of pretty much telling you are wrong and almost taking it personal you don't like their music.
I love the little Pop Rocks Break you had there.
This episode actually really meant a lot to me in high school, it was prolly around sophomore year that it came out and I was relating to the content and something about the use of Landslide was just perfect
For real I remember seeing everything as shit during high school and wondered why it became so shit since elementary school when being a kid was the best times. Glad I’m passed those days now but this episode definitely hits home. The trailers are still funny asf tho
You just *had* pop rocks? That’s hilarious.
9:24 BTW, that song Randy is singing is a mock up of “Uncontrollable Urge” by the band DEVO, which is also the intro song to the MTV show Ridiculousness.
I love how true this episode is to real life.
To me, the three saddest episodes of *South Park* are "The Return of Chef," "You're Getting Older," and "Kenny Dies."
In my opinion, "You're Getting Older" is the saddest because it reflects Matt and Trey's acknowledgment that the show doesn’t always bring them joy. This is such a human theme: we often fall out of love with the things we once cherished. Life is about moving forward and adapting to changes, even when those changes are heartbreaking and out of our control.
"Kenny Dies" is also a very jarring episode. While the intention is to make you feel sad about Kenny dying in the hospital, the recurring joke makes it difficult to truly empathize with him, given that he dies all the time. It’s as if the one moment that’s meant to hit you in the heart is immediately undercut by a joke at the end, where Cartman exploits Kenny’s death to create a Shakey’s restaurant out of aborted fetuses.
The second saddest episode, in my opinion, is "The Return of Chef." Chef was a major character from the very beginning of the series, and his return is upsetting due to the complicated stories surrounding the Scientology controversy and Isaac Hayes. There are conflicting accounts about whether he left *South Park* due to health issues or if someone else wrote that statement for him. When he died, Matt and Trey publicly didn’t acknowledge his passing, almost as if they didn’t want to be held accountable for their actions or any misinformation. The way Chef died was also brutal, which mirrored the anger they felt and a sense of betrayal, making it all the more heartbreaking for fans and quite mean-spirited.
This episode is kinda depressing for me ngl
Hes lieing.
I can definitely understand why you would say that.
@@dash.reactsIt’s real! These two episodes are the definition of _“It’s funny cause it’s true”_
That song from the introspective montage comes on the radio, and it gets me like I just found out my parents sold me to Paris Hilton.
very funny an sad at the same time
I can't listen to that bit at 9:51 without thinking of the 6 Days to Air clip, so I'm glad you put that in there, rofl. "What fer?!" lol.
Wut der?
This (and the second part) honestly resonate with me. I went through what Stan did at the age of 15. I had trouble making friends because of how I acted. I love these two episodes
This reminds me of King of the Hill a bit..
"Mother of God, it's all toilet sounds" 🤣
6:48 He really got up to get pop rocks lol
When Landslide played during this episode and the next one it always made me cry.
When this episode aired I actually teared up at the ending because I genuinely thought Matt and Trey were saying goodbye to South Park and I realized I wasn't ready to say goodbye.
I've literally been a fan since I bought the VHS of Season One the day of its release.
Yeah, it was mid-season finale. So there were even several month gap between this episode and the next one. So, it was kinda anxiety enducing.
Also, when it came out I was about to finish my bachelor's degree. So "you're getting old" and "your life will change soon" feeling was kinda there already for me.
Same and I was upset all summer
Exactly the same here.
I also felt this when it turned out the entire show was the kids stuck in virtual reality. I thought that was a perfect ending to the entire series, but desperately hoped it wasn't.
Kyle's attitude toward Stan in this episode REALLY made me angry. Stan is going through feelings of apathy, hopelessness and deep sadness, and Kyle? Well......Kyle just finds that really boring and tiresome, so he ditches him. Best friend my arse.
@@CheerfullyCynical829 I've been in Kyle's position and, best friend or not, it's not at all remotely easy and there's only so much someone can handle. I agree that he gave up on Stan too fast, but that's for the sake of the episode's runtime.
You also have to worry about your own mental health and there's only so much you can take before you're essentially just self-inflicting yourself with unintentional abuse. It's not so black and white.
Duck President is one of their funniest creations!😂
The Bob Dylan part always kills me 😂
Ah yes "The Police" with their famous hit song "Every crap you take". 😂
Dash i have been watching all your videos for over a year now, and i gotta say that you are the absolute best. You deserve WAY MORE subs. Keep going!
Its a very deep cut into the topic of depression, especially with the ep after it. Its not just about getting older but not being able to find joy in anything anymore, while you are getting stuck at the bottom and even friends can't pull you out anymore
As someone who’s in their thirties and still finds pleasure in every single style of music, this episode makes more sense than any South Park episode ever.
4:30 - "the police had some fire music"
proceeds to show a clip of a guy shitting on camera wtf
My God Dash. You would laugh the whole way through the two South Park games.
the backstage footage of the old guys talking scene is hilarious
Bob Dylan "Hey Fella" haha! He and the Police were huge in my life so this episode cracks me up. Nowadays I really like Jesse Welles, Steve Earle, Die Spitz, OFF but I'm getting really into old stuff like Woody Guthrie. I guess that's common since I'm over 50. Liking old music.
This episode absolutely killed me with laughter you can see more and more of Stan becoming like his father slowly but surely I love these Stan and Randy Marsh episodes and how Sharon is just simply so fed up half the time it's always a great day when Dash uploads by far the best South Park reactor have a great Sunday and week my man
When they say it's the same story every week, they are actually talking about the show! They were thinking about ending the show, but they are still active, and I'm so glad that they are!
6:51 SO GOOD! I actually love the sound and feeling of the cracking on the tongue- dang I want some now lmao
This 2 parter episode really hit me when I first watched it, it struck to me at the most perfect time and I never thought a SOUTH PARK episode would make me feel so heavy and it literally stopped my binge I was thinking about it for a week. Great stuff
That part at 7:32, made me remember a bit in an episode of Viva La Bam, where they microwaved a dog turd. I laughed so much when I saw that.
Cynicism is the sign of people of superior intellligence
🎯💯
Prrrrrrrt prrrrrrt ffffffrrrt 💩💩💩💩💩
Dash coming in with that Pop Rocks ASMR lol
I was w18 for ASMR comment
LOVE the "Ice Ice baby" reference for Jim Carey. Such an iconic skit
Booya! Love the videos, Dash!
the britches subplot is one of my favorites. leave them poor britches alone
These two episodes might be my favorite thing South Park has ever done.
It’s funny in some angles, but for me, I cry because it just hits me so hard, I can relate to it so HARD.
15:30 dash i love how you did the flashbacks from the previous epiodes great work!
Fed up Sharon is probably my favorite character.
In the creator commentary the creators said they didn't mean for the episode to be so sad, they said they were just messing around and it isn't as deep as it comes across
These were the same people who thought it would be funny to air Terrance and Phillip at the beginning of season 2. We should have known.😅
I was able to relate to Stan in a movie theater from about age 14 and on.
My mom was stuck on Blues and Gospel music. My father taught us to get out of our own way and listen to everything, possible
Dash throwing respect to the Mo’ Town Era
Yes!
I didn't expect Dash singing regueton at the end.😂😂😂😂
Dash teaching me new stuff every episode so where I come from in the UK we don't call them pop rocks we call it popping candy but it is amazing. Thanks for the great videos and teaching me something new every reaction mate, can't wait until the next one aha 🫡💯
This episode, which came across like a swan song for the show at the time, aired almost exactly halfway between the first episode of South Park and today.
I've been watching south park consistently for 9 years, I won't stop! Got all the dvd's except the season 8 dvd!
This was actually based on Trey having a midlife crisis basically and suffering from depression. Such a great 2 parter episode
Stan turning into one of the Goth kids again lol
Made my day bro. Love from El Salvador.
This episode really put me in a crisis for a bit when it first came out in 2011. Thankfully I’m doing okay and learning that change can be for the better and it’s part of life.
The timing 😂 diddy sampled every breath you take.
this is easily in my top 3 fav south park eps. it is very relatable for me. thx for reacting to it.
Duck president is Trey and Matt’s favorite South Park moment ever.
2:40 lol being able to remember small stuff like this is what makes Dash the best in the game
I grew up moshing to bands like Korn, but I also love Bob Dylan and The Police. Anybody who loves music can find appreciation with all genres.
"It's a condition called 'being-a-cynical-asshôle'...and there's no known cure, I'm afraid."
(One of my favorite lines from the entire series.😂💀)
"Bwaah! It's fulla toilet sounds!"
-Hank Hill
I believe the main point is that an older generation wants to keep things as they grew with and the same for their children, but like with many things, progression always moves forward and as an older generation, they can't/won't allow progression to move past theirs.
Pop rock candy asmr just hits different
S 18 E 3 "The Cissy"
S 23 E 7 "Board Girls"
are funny
Very relatable episode. I’m in my mid thirties now, was a kid in the 90’s and a teen in the 2000’s; and as I’m getting older I’m becoming very nostalgic for those two decades. Everything newer than about 2009 seems shitty to me lol
Im glad u reacted to this episode to get the context of the last one u watched 😂😂
This is an episode taylormade for Dash.
"Taylormade" hahahahahahaha! 🤣🤣🤣🤣............that's tailor-made. Anything made by Taylor Swift sucks as s.
Country music is one genre where the parents and kids both listen to the same music. Same with Merengue and Salsa.
I love this episode. Probably my all time favorite. I love the satire and the weight of it at the end. It's very deep and emotional as well as being hilarious. I think it speaks to me so much because it wasn't too long after my own parents divorced that this episode first aired and I was going through a lot myself at that time. I think it's a brilliant episode and I always enjoy watching your reactions to the show.
When this episode came out, fans thought the show might be over. We didn't know, and it was sad and depressing, but also so real. South Park holds up.
Love watching these it’s been a week please do another one I check everyday I really enjoy it it’s liking watching it with a friend
As you get into the later seasons the episodes become more serialized. You need to watch them in chronological order so everything makes sense 🙂
Dude. Those pop rocks are a truly satisfying candy ever.
Loved the ending of your commentary/reaction :D
This was an important episode for the season, setting up a few things that you had been missing on subsequent episodes you already watched 🙂↕️
On a personal note, the part with Sharon trying to dictate what music Stan listens to hits home. When I was around 12-13 my dad and stepmom did the same, I had a dual cassette + Cd player in my room, but they would buy me CD’s like MCHammer and Heavy D (music which I did not particularly care for). Unbeknownst to them, I would go to the local music stores and get albums like Guns N’ Roses and Faith No More. I had to hide the cassettes/CD’s around my room, and only played them through my headphones. 😮
Randy's worst fear - being a fuddy duddy
I didn't know dash was going to give us ASMR with pop rocks😂
And so many people who complain constantly about movies today, still don't see a parallel between those two episodes and themselves!
"What fir"? lives rent free in my head
Dash, you are the best South Park reactor there is! =)
I'm born in 96', but I love old school metalhead, especially thrash metal! I would say some of the metal after thrash lacked guiter solos, technically, and vocals. I appreciate many of the newer bands who kept heavy /thrash metal going. Definitely love the music choices for this episode, especially the Police!
🎶And I'm getting older to🎶
I saw my comment at the beginning!
Bro.. i was in TEARS during those movie trailers!! 😂💩
1, i remember when this episode came out, it literally, no exaggeration, changed my movie going experience forever -- especially when the narrator of the trailer says "f*u, u'll watch it anyway", I realized I'd been going to the theatres and watching crap, and like, years later, since then, I still barely go to the movies-- south park changed me forever haha. 2, thanks for posting these 2 eps, Dash, they're my all-time favs
As someone who suffers from Major Depressive Disorder since childhood, this Episode hits really close to home.
And the resolution in the next episode is arguably a reflection of how some people deal with it, sadly
