I'm currently preparing for my upcoming IGCSE exams this May and this video has finally explained to me the toughest section in factorising quadratic expressions. Thank you!
good luck
update ??
Mine is this year
What happened?
Same like I'm not giving my igcse this year but I had a problem in this part of completing the square and im glad to come on youtube
this is so simple and easy to understand. my teacher didnt even teach us this formula. i literally mean it when i say thank you so much.may allah guide you to the truth, islam

Ameen!
Why do you need to say that at the end of your point?

A very short, simple, and effective way of making a student learn a whole module in 5 minutes. I feel confident enough to pass my GCSEs. Thanks a lot, Cognito.
That's great Davidkings! Really glad we could make you feel more comfortable with these topics 😊
How did you do ?

Oh my gosh I can't express my relief because now I UNDERSTAND BETTER as a 9th grade student 🙏🏻❤ THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you so much. I spent two days trying to get this formula understood and I watched your video and now I totally understand it.
Thanks for these examples. It's really beneficial and very easy to understand. Also the explanations were perfectly done. Thanks again

Awesomely explained.....!
thank you so much for this video. i reallllyyyyyy didnt understand this in class (im not so good at maths and also my teacher kinda sucks) but now i mostly understand how to do it
thank you, you taught me something in 5 minutes that my math teacher couldn't teach in a week.

Bro igcse in june im at grade 4 right now im trying to reach grade 7 how should i revise
Sameer...use save my exams, physics and maths tutor for exam style questions...that boosted me to grade 7/8
Awesome.
A much easier method than this is to open your brackets write in x and then half the co-efficient then close brackets and square it all. Then you square your halved co-efficient and you see how you get back to your last number. So much easier than incorporating fractions
thank you so much for this. you made really easy to understand!
Thanx for sharing...
Thank you so much
thank you mister british man🙏🏼
What’s the reason for this method? Do I have to memorise it? Can someone please explain the reason behind all of this?
bro basically it all started 15 years ago when an old grandpa was giving his early retirement exam and then BOOM he got a quadratic equation that said solve it. so he did what all grandpas do: kick a child in da rear end. AND then obviously he made dis :)
@@madlad25 HAHAHA

I had a question saying express in the form of a plus or minus b to the square root of 2 where a and b are fractions. Idk wt to do😮
What Fi the A is equal a no. Other than 1?
how did you get 7?
omg, im SAVED
Thanks u
I actually really like this topic in maths. It’s fun to do and satisfying because everyone else is confused lol
what type of torture have u faced haha
same lmao, the feeling when no one understands but you do is fireee
Hard and tricky but I ll score good bcz I listen to congito o level 😊
What happens if it’s an odd number?
leave it as a fraction
what if a (from ax^2 + bx + c) is not equal to 1
Is this compatible with Ed excel
isn't (-5) squared a normal +25???
It is a normal +25 but there is a minus sign outside the bracket as well
Like Huda Ali said there is literally a - sign from the beginning and no matter what we must follow the system And I guess you got me..........💯

Hi brudh
@@Loquacious_Jackson Unfortunately I'm Sri lankan
what if the x co efficient isn't 1 though would the formula still apply?
No
Yes the formula still applies!
You'll need to remove the coefficient or the minus sign from the equation
Eg 1. 2x²-4x+6= 2(x²-2x+3)
Eg 2. -2x²-4x+6 = -2(x²+2x-3)
I hope this will help you! Sorry if it's too late:")
Its minus 17 outside the bracket for the last one
How do you go from -18 to -7?
18 is positive. adding it to -25 gives you -7
@@guillermomartinez6022 thanks!!
An IGCSE student!!!!!!
At 3:13, isn't the -25 supposed to be a positve 25? because -5 squared = 25
there is a subtraction sign look carefully
Isn't negative times negative positive?
yes, but there is another minus sign outside the bracket, which again makes it negative
@Cognito what if x^2 has a coefficient or a minus sign in front of it?
then they can't ask you to complete the square because that's not how complete the square works
You then need to remove the coefficient or the minus sign from the equation
Eg 1. 2x²-4x+6= 2(x²-2x+3)
Eg 2. -2x²-4x+6 = -2(x²+2x-3)
I hope this will help you! Sorry if it's too late:")
lmao im here to revise for a test helpp the test is on thursday (today is tuesday)
2:01 do we not use quadratic formula? like (-b±√(b²-4ac))/(2a)??
Completing the square is just a rearranged form of the quadratic formula, and it's sometimes (but not always) quicker and easier to use when solving for x.
We can use this formula but sometimes in exams ,questions will be like solve the quadratic equation by completing square method...so that's why...hope it helps...
Wouldnt it be - -25 so +25?
Nah
@@Loquacious_Jackson yeah it would be
Nope, that's a common misconception. -(-5)^2 is EQUAL to -25, not 25. It's only when there isn't a bracket which it would equate to 25.

W vid
how is -8 + 8 = 8???
-8 + 8 = 0, but that isn't in this video at all...
@@Cognitoedu i got mixued up at 4 minutes. it said + 8 to Both sides which made the -8 into 0 but was still +8 because there was an 8 added onto the other side. i didnt realise and it took me 40 minutes to realise this because i am very tired and have a Unit 9 maths test tomorrow so im a bit braindead right now
Ah, no worries, yeah it's a bit late for maths!
I don't understand😓😖
Basically find a,b and c, put them into the formula, then simplify
Who else is here bc their teacher made them click the link to watch it
you're wrong
nvm declan was wrong
yes! thnx @cognito
What do i need to do if the b value is equals to an odd number? Can anyone help? 🥲

i thought maths was hard untill i saw this vid

Nice video 👍
can we embed these videos on our web site for students?
Thank you souch
You can assume directly that you add the real C value to the right and the left and the C value equal (b/2)sq .. then when the shape be at the standard form make your brackets ... it will be much easier i think

I know this is not the right subject but can you make a video about the extraction of iron and another one on liquid in glass thermometer?

No I feel confident to pass my igcse thanks for you cognito
