Thanks for having me on dude! Always gotta take the chance to talk about my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time and show off that Vivi piece in my room. Fantastic video all around as well
So honoured to be a part of this! Thanks again for having me be in it. Final Fantasy IX is one of my fav FFs - it’s so charming and whimsical and just so darn cute. I’m really excited to put this on while I work today!!! :)
Damn dude... this took a turn I wasn't expecting.... and I could only imagine how challenging it must have been to put this all out there. What a story.... You're a great man and will be an incredible parent. The world needs more people like you. Much love bro. Oh and also - fantastic video as always!
Fantastic video! You've come back from that break from youtube absolutely on fire! Family life seems to suit you well, keep being the best dad you can be!
Watched the whole thing - seriously well done, dude! A well thought out, well researched video overall. Lots of heart, great guests, just a wonderful video! :D
I never thought I'd tear up while watching a video about Final Fantasy 9, but I did. I'm so sorry to hear about all the trauma you went through. The video is great, of course. The humorous parts were very funny. I think this is the best video on FF9 I've seen, and I've watched a lot. The part about Vivi at the end is interesting too. I made the connection a while back that toddlers probably identify with Pikachu and then feel empowered when Pikachu gets mad and zaps people, but toddlers can't really put that into words. So it kind of confirms what I'd figured the way you felt empowered by Vivi having magic powers.
Thank you sharing, appreciate watching your channel and seeing how much you have grown. Tarks, your channel has been there for me during some of the hardest times of life. You have done a lot of good, and being a new father you'll do even more wonderful things to do more good for your family lives. Love you. 😢😊
I'll never get sick of hearing about the things that make you human whenever you feel like sharing. I'm personally in a really bad place right now mentally, feeling overwhelmingly guilty for my inaction and inadequacy towards doing my part & helping my family through the tough time we're in financially. 21 and I'm still stuck in the same rut of fear since finishing high school. But it really helps hearing about you and your life to know that you've persevered despite all that you've gone through. My stuff feels like small bananas in comparison, but I still couldn't help tearing up in the ending section tying it back to the game. Thank you for this, your videos have come to mean a lot to me because of your authenticity and real moments. Even before that section, you really managed to convince me to try this game that I would've otherwise dismissed as not being my thing on the surface. I'm continuing to look forward to your future projects, much love
I'm willing to bet you already know all the best advice people can give but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to repeat it- Sometimes it's a waiting game. Perseverance. Persistence. Etc. Shit gets better. It can take a long time to find yourself comfortable and content in life, and life has a crazy way of making you keep reevaluating what those words and feelings mean. Just keep pushing through. Someday you'll find yourself content in life, even when it's difficult. Don't let the weight of your teens and twenties keep you down forever.
Im finally play this game again 24 years later, the first JRPG I have been ever finish, it introduce me to world of final fantasy ( on PS1 Im finishing it backward from IX to VII) , and yes Im that late into playstation in feb 2000, after bought NES in May 1994, no other console in between except for some sporadic range of time when my neighbour and childhood friend own Sega genesis. Why Im playing it again after 24 years, because of Moguri Mod, awesome awesome mod made by fans that upscaled the goodnes of pre rendered background faithfully to be played on my PC.
I appreciate how much you put yourself out there. I have similar stories of my own childhood and I also hold FFIX in a special place in my heart, it’s my favorite game ever. I have noticed a connection in these two things as someone who has followed the FF community and specifically FFIX fan community. I wonder how many others are out there, who feel thankful for this game to help them cope, who feel this game or these characters helped mold their personality, who feel this game gave them the optimism they needed, the hope. Taught them that how they live on this day forward is what counts, this they can control, they can live how they want.
I have mixes feelings seeing old photos of the cafeteria. On one hand we all had some good memories down there but it was also where I went when I hated school and wanted to be alone.
Play Alternate Fantasy, one of the best mods in existence: it basically solves all FF9 problems related to balance: it makes the game incredibly stimulating, always on the verge of being kinda hard but in the end, not really, it's like the perfect point of difficulty one would want in an RPG, it's incredibly impressive and highly recommended.
Your first is always special. That’s why for me no FF can top FF7, no Star Ocean top Second Story, no trails too Cold Steel, no persona top Persona 3 and so on. It’s extremely rare that the first game in a series isn’t the favourite.
My dad also left when I was small. I was always the tallest guy in school and had no siblings and while my stepfather never physically hurt me I had a constant feeling of never being good enough. He met mom when I was 10 and he always complained that she hadn’t raised me right. How his kids that he left were so much better. I lived under the rule “everything you say can and will be used against you” so being silent was the only way. He hated my love for video games and called me childish. He often boasted about how he got his older son a Nintendo for Christmas but he never liked to play it. He always sounded so proud about that fact. Like his son had been temped by the devil and refused like a hero. I’m now in my late 30s but he remains the same. I still have to listen to the same speech I’ve heard 100 times about the soy sauce I like isn’t REAL soy sauce or how he hasn’t had Coca Cola since 1992. How we are bad because we eat the cheapest meat because that’s what we can afford when he only buys the finest eco friendly local grown beef and the finest most obscure craft beer and anyone who eats at a fast food restaurant or drinks soda is an uncultured American (We are European by the way so that’s meant as an insult). I learned in my 20s that I had Asperger’s and video games especially RPGs have always been an escape. I’m glad FFIX meant so much to you. My biological father died some years ago. We never really got to know each other. I also am doing my best to be present and be a good father to my daughters.
Some people pick the weirdest things to battle over and make people feel small with. One of the last times I seen my stepfather he started berating my mom because she went to the kitchen unannounced. That was a "big problem." She should've said something cause "What if I wanted ketchup or something. Now I have to get up too." I can't understand being this way. Anything and everything is a battle and they'll always be victorious and self righteous. It's wild, man. The mindsets of some people. I just don't get it. At the end of the day it's on us not to repeat the crap we experienced growing up. It sounds like you're pulling it off, so keep it up!
Final Fantasy VI is still the GOAT Final Fantasy game, but I feel Final Fantasy IX is very much a love letter to games like Final Fantasy VI, especially with the existentialist themes and what not. That's why it's my 2nd favorite Final Fantasy game.
Sending love hugs, prayer. A mothers love to you and your family. You are an amazing person and thank gawd you have survived. Thank you for being you. For being a wonderful father to that beautiful baby girl. They say the smallest of individuals (human, animal etc.) Have the biggest hearts, souls, minds, and you have been graced with humility and the loudest voice to speak on vulnerability. You are saving someone each and everyday with your videos. I know it. Be well, be safe, and many blessings to You and everyone here sharing the love of video games.
I miss the days when games had crossover promotions. Yes, it’s a marketing ploy, but there’s something strangely immersive about seeing a game like FFIX intertwined with everyday products.
Tarks this was epic. I remember buying FFIX after I graduated high school and buying it with my tiny Jack In The Box check. I appreciate the behind the scenes of your life. My dad is awful and that abuse and constant pain is hard to clear yourself of that programming. But you choosing to end the cycle makes you the best person. You are going to be a great father.
Absolutely love Final Fantasy IX. Easily my favorite numbered FF game and one of the few that I still love to go back to. It's so engaging and full of life and hope. And looking back on it, I probably owe Kuja a lot for awakening things in me.
Being reminded of the whole story and conflict regarding the black mages, the subject of mortality and coming to terms with it, is hitting way too close to home right now. To be upfront, life has not been too kind to my family of late. My mom lost her job and, due to a health issue that wasn't going away, had to go the ER. Thankfully it's apparently nothing too serious but still, it's been quite the scare. What has been serious though is, at the same time, me watching my 20 year old cat's health rapidly decline this past month and, just yesterday, I had to go to the vet to get him euthanized. Mortality is very much on my mind. But yeah, moving on from that, I do have a soft spot for "FF9". While I don't have quite as much fervor and love towards it like you all do, I still consider it to be one of my favorite "FF" games in general. Something about it, at least among "FF", feels holly unique. Though I did play it a good while ago, so I don't quite remember too many specifics. Funnily, I am one of those crazies that went out of my way to steal with Zidane. And yes, a lot of the time, it was very annoying. I specifically remember this one Black Mage fight in an icy area that took multiple resets, both due to me accidentally killing them or them wiping me out. Think it was a double boss fight as well which was extra annoying. It's probably for that reason why, in a rare occasion, I ended up having a very defensive playstyle. Did some weird set up with Freya, Eko, and Garnet/Dagger which allowed me to have practically infinite mp and healing potential by spamming some skills, and buffs on top of that, just so I could stall as much as possible and steal with Zidane. Needless to say, I never got Excalibur II.
I've been there man. My mom with sudden strokes, my cat a year ago seemingly to be in deaths door. 3k later she pulled through but it was tough man. It's hard to look at your pets/family in suffering and not knowing how to help or coming to terms with the idea that you may not even be able to. I have a sinking feeling we're approaching that same precipice with my Cat again. She's getting old now and there's certain signs her body and health are not working the same anymore. We're monitoring the situation but I don't know that we can afford the crazy bills we had to pay last time, or if that will even be an option again. Day by day man. It's all you can do sometimes.

Wow…..so this was the first time I have heard your life story. Although I can’t relate to everything you went through, I can honestly say that video games saved my life many times over the years and I probably wouldn’t be the person I am today without them. I can’t believe the conditions of that house you shared with us in that video. That place looks like it’s about to collapse at any second. Wow man……
That place is gone now. I visited it while preparing for my legend of Dragoon video only to find out when I showed up it was scheduled to be demolished. It was torn down while I was working on the video. A new house is there now.
I never finished IX, but maybe I really should go back to it. As a kid the characters didn't click for me and the art style was kinda meh. I might have to just pick it up and try it again. Edit: The explanation of why FF IX was special to you was incredible. It's awesome to see how video games can change our lives for the better. The stories I remember as a kid playing these games have also had a huge impact on me as well.
I just played final fantasy 16 demo on pc. I was taken aback that it's 2024, and Final Fantasy 9 was more open. It had a better world map. Seems like the whole budget went to everything else.
Tetra Master is a great card game that has elements of both luck and skill, like most real card games. It just doesn’t make for a great checklist in a video game like some people want to treat it as.
Not sure if you'll get around to it, but when you said where FF7 was about death, FF9 was about life, something just clicked for me! As time has passed, I've more and more seen what happens with Kuja as the "good route/ending" of Sephiroth. In so many ways, they are very similar characters, especially in terms of life experience and motivation etc, but they don't end up alike. Like so much of FF9, there is more character development, and you get the "good" route, the life route, which can be bittersweet at times.
If anyone’s brave play the Final Fantasy IX drinking game. Each time Final Fantasy IX is said take a drink😅😂 If you want to take it to the next level, change it to Final Fantasy! Great retrospective 😊
I wish I loved it more. For me FF7,8 and 10 were the best FF of all time and 9 was a bit of a disappointment. The music and graphics are great, some of the best in JRPG history even but I just didn’t like the characters and story as much nor the gameplay. Come to think of it. FFVII wasn’t just my first FF game. It was the first in the series to come here to Europe. It is responsible for JRPGs becoming a think here as the genre wasn’t even something I was aware of before not counting Secret of Mana. If I had played some of the earlier games maybe 9 would have been a return for me. Instead it felt strange to be set in a fantasy world when for me FF was sci fi.
@@TarksGauntlet You don't undo it. Your life experience and its effects on you for better or worse is yours to own forever. However being cognizant and to act in deliberation positively ensures that you might not have a perfect future but a far superior one than only acting in response to the past. For many that is the only difference between living a great life or a terrible one.
@TarksGauntlet I've spoken plenty on this issue ppl know what i think 6 has better music characters story villian charm 9 rip-offs a lot from 6...9 fans like hippos in dresses and riverdancing rats And you 9 fans MADE UP rumors tryjng to manifest this remake over FF6...after talking bad about ff7 for years then being triggered by ff7 remake Ff9 might have the worst fanbase in all of videogames
@@eddy5097 "I've spoken plenty on this issue ppl know what I think." Man, I don't even know who you are. That aside, you're welcome to your opinion. I would never hold it against you. I wouldn't mind if you would do the same.
@TarksGauntlet oh I like ff9 a lot...it's no ff6...and skies of Arcadia came out and was a better RPG than 9...first time I saw a ff game get beat by the competition
The slow ass battle intro and general grind pace, Quinas weirdness and Kujas fruitiness kinda ruin the game for me. Also its way too self referential for my taste. But i guess that was the point. I think ff 7 8 9 and 10 all suck enough to never play them more than the one time i did. What a hoax that Matsuno left and only the DEI yesmen remained.
Yes, That's how I say Quina.

Thanks for having me on dude! Always gotta take the chance to talk about my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time and show off that Vivi piece in my room. Fantastic video all around as well
Thanks for answering the call dude! It was a pleasure having you on board!
Thanks for letting me be apart of this! I always love talking about Final Fantasy IX.
It was my honor to include you!
So honoured to be a part of this! Thanks again for having me be in it. Final Fantasy IX is one of my fav FFs - it’s so charming and whimsical and just so darn cute. I’m really excited to put this on while I work today!!! :)

Great video. Love the collaborations and the personal story. Thanks for sharing!

What's most evil of FFIX ATB is some of that those counting down curse didn't care about turn it didn't even care about cool summoning animation.

I was also the smallest kid in school until after summer of 9th grade. As a 6'7 adult man I still have an inferiority complex
6'7?
Man. I thought I was lucky to eventually hit average female height lol.
@TarksGauntlet it was unexpected and it made me very very clumsy.

I haven't played 9 yet. I'm finishing up FF16 now, and I'm probably going to start 9 pretty soon. It looks pretty good.
Here for taurk in a tank top haha
38:07-14 I'm about to play my Space Jam soundtrack
My All Time Favorite RPG !!! 💗💗💗
I’m so sad where the Final Fantasy series is heading. Even the FF7 remake did not do it justice😢
Welp this got real deep 😢
omg I DO love this FF9, thnx u for ur hard work on this video.
tark deserves more subs
Unfortunately, I didn't grew up with games like this cause of my country's laws back in those days. I still enjoy your videos, that is the upside
Beautiful ❤
I just played final fantasy 16 demo on pc. I was taken aback that it's 2024, and Final Fantasy 9 was more open. It had a better world map. Seems like the whole budget went to everything else.
Hell YEah
Tetra Master is a great card game that has elements of both luck and skill, like most real card games. It just doesn’t make for a great checklist in a video game like some people want to treat it as.
TH-camers unite 😆😆😆😆😆
Not sure if you'll get around to it, but when you said where FF7 was about death, FF9 was about life, something just clicked for me! As time has passed, I've more and more seen what happens with Kuja as the "good route/ending" of Sephiroth. In so many ways, they are very similar characters, especially in terms of life experience and motivation etc, but they don't end up alike. Like so much of FF9, there is more character development, and you get the "good" route, the life route, which can be bittersweet at times.
There are never enough FF9 retrospectives
YEAHHHHHH BUDDYYYYYYYYYY
What I hate the most is constantly losing to stupid Beatrix, and the Trance moves sucked compared to the limit breaks in FFVII, and FFVIII.
9 is easily one of the best but 12 is my fave through and through. Their bravely default games are great as well. Similar vibes to 9 at times.
If anyone’s brave play the Final Fantasy IX drinking game. Each time Final Fantasy IX is said take a drink😅😂
If you want to take it to the next level, change it to Final Fantasy!
Great retrospective 😊
Come on man, I need more subscribers, not dead ones!
God 🎉
I have a hard time enjoying 9, it has such terribly delayed combat and awful pacing.
Being a victim of bad circumstances means jack sh*t. Just how you choose to act and therefore live, that matters.
For sure, but it can take a lot of effort or time to realize what that bad shit has done to you, and figure out how to undo it.
Final Fantasy VIII*
Having never been the best looking guy at a party, I've never found myself in FFVIII
@@TarksGauntlet I'm just kidding. Great video!
Ffix is awful
Sabin suplexes FF9
FF6 is better
I don't know, man. Not very scientific of you. I'm not convinced.
@TarksGauntlet I've spoken plenty on this issue ppl know what i think
6 has better music characters story villian charm
9 rip-offs a lot from 6...9 fans like hippos in dresses and riverdancing rats
And you 9 fans MADE UP rumors tryjng to manifest this remake over FF6...after talking bad about ff7 for years then being triggered by ff7 remake
Ff9 might have the worst fanbase in all of videogames
@@eddy5097 "I've spoken plenty on this issue ppl know what I think."
Man, I don't even know who you are.
