bbc1 scotland had their own idents in 1984 and 1988 and bbc1 wales in 1988 and really great christmas wrapping vids i really enjoy watching these this month
Thank you so, so much for these videos Appplemask! Me and my latest guitarist and my Ma and Da are right into this stuff. It's just the end of Boxing Day and here I am, a bit tiddly, and as always, mesmerized by your gorgeous display of idents. If only it were like this now. I think they're beautiful. And your voice is so chilled I wish it were on proffesional documentaries. You're a gem mate. Love your ITV stuff and 70's festive ones too. Love from Scotland and have a Happy New Year Appledude! Have a wonderful New Year. xxx
Yeah, I agree with all these posters. You've done a great job on these, and have a good deadpan delivery. Very Victor Lewis Smith if you don't mind me saying.
@cwilliams1976 Didn't have a copy. For the record, the BBC2 Wales Christmas ident in 1989 was that endlessly spinning top again, only with a custom BBC2 logo.
Santa's workshop and the toys and the presents were great, but they were used for trailers, which occasionally transitioned into the ident, which in itself merely consisted of that one barely animated shot. If they'd made more of the live-action toyshop bits in the ident itself, it would have been great, but the horrendously unedifying ending kills it off. It's like the same year's BBC Two ident, which has a reflecting bauble motif that leads to a confusing single image.
Oh, by the way, thanks for calling Scotland ''special guest stars' I'm all chuffed with myself now. I totally hope you're still doing this stuff. Been gaining knowledge from you off and on for years now. Thanks pal. Ps: My favourite was BBC2 Optics and BBC 2 Silk. They were gorgeous. Given you're so into this stuff, check the bbc 2 ident themes 'songs' (i guess) and compare them with Vangelis: Soil Festivities: Movement 1 from 1984 I think and you'll see where Lambie Nairn probably got that sound from back then. ps: Anybone who checks this out and agrees give me a thumbs up to this fellow ident nerd if that's cool with you? Cheers. x
Thanks for your comments, especially the ones about my voice being nice. I've never been fond of my own voice, it's thick and low and nasal. Fortunately as a drama student I learned how to compensate. Anyway, yes I still do these things, and you should watch the updated version of this instead because it's better: vimeo.com/82212701. Other stuff on that channel too.
I didn't realise it had even started! IT'S TOO EARLY. I don't think this is it. I have a feeling that they're going to do something with that curtain...have it rise on Christmas Day or something. Otherwise it's just sort of "nice".
I do appreciate the fact you included Noel detonating the innocent birds, but how did you manage to find footage of the northern ireland christmas Cake ident for 1987? 5:55
Ice dog 2020. Well done Applemask. Another banger of a video.

BBC Wales had their own Christmas Idents up to & including 1989.

At Christmas 1985 BBC Wales made TV history by having the first electronically generated Christmas Ident which was only shown in Wales.
What this video really needs is a shot of the narrator sitting on his own in a dimly lit living room swearing at that 1987 BBC2 Christmas ident.
Damn man, you do great work. I loved this!

I went on a big search trying to find their names but had no luck
Well done Applemask - great video.
The globes occasionally rotate in the wrong direction.
"A world will change, a cow will fall and a hero will rise... Same ident time, same ident channel." lol
LOL! Loving your sadistic narration, am laughing!

I did like the 1989 Ident
This is genius.
Awesome!
The 1988 BBC2 Christmas logo is a weird one.
Very, very good writing. I'm surprised this hadn't been turned into a BBC2/BBC3 Show with V/O replaced by Robert Webb?

Sorry! Yes, I meant sarcastic! I was not awake when looking at this video! Sorry Applemask!
And shaking my fist.

I think it was The TV Room.
@@applemask I'll try that
lol @ BBC2's 1987 'effort'
I watch these videos every year now. Do you think I should get myself sectioned?
1989 rules though, I have a knife.
2012 was their worst ident
Sadistic? I hope you mean sarcastic.
Why do you not let the announcer tell you what programme is coming up when you are narrating this documentary?
Did you speak a little Welsh?
