I like how Bowser basically said "yeah, my son is a larger threat than your edgelord brother who hates toads" and Olivia basically agreed
I mean, he wasn't wrong. Junior is high energy, motivated, mechanically gifted and has an army. Dangerous combo right there

It does kind of make sense. Olivia was always an idealist, and Bowser was never canonically on _that_ side of a “villain falls, grows bigger, gets back up” moment. Heck, he probably assumed it was something his kin and his kin alone were capable of.
Bowser: the ultimate personification of the "evil has standards" trope. Kidnapping princesses? Good. Stealing thier castles by rocketing it into the air using his own castle? Good. Using s crown to try and kill Mario? Okay. Genocide by a tyranical edgelord? What are you, fucking psycho? And that's not even including his mainline game actions since Paper Jam showed the main and paper universes to be different cannons.
three years later and edgelord has a whole new meaning
1:10 In previous games, we needed divine intervention and/or the power of the whole world cheering us to get a recovery before the final battle. In this one, we get the same result from a pep talk from Bowser.
Conclusion? Bowser is a good motivational speaker!

Well the power of the whole world usually comes in halfway through the final battle, not before it
The entire conflict of this game could've been avoided if Olly took one goddamn second to look at his own body.

Sometimes it's just that one very simple thing that can lead to grave misunderstandings...

I think that was a straight acknowledgement from Nintendo. An admittance that yes, too many of the NPCs in _Sticker Star_ and _Color Splash_ were Toads, and _yes,_ too many of them followed the same design template to feel like separate characters.
Though unless King Olly is colorblind, his logic doesn't much extend beyond green Toads.

It also implies that the mushroom kingdom is very technologically advanced for a kingdom without many signs of electrical power

@@mrnukes797 Coincidentally, it's impressive that DDD has survived going toe-to-toe with Kirby, few final bosses live to tell the tale, and the ones that do (Marx, Magolor, Zero via eldritch reincarnation) typically only fight kirby once (but Zero tried again and hasn't come back since), DDD has fought Kirby MULTIPLE TIMES and survived every battle.

When I was playing this game, I wanted to find some of the OST from it and this video was in the search list. I immediately thought “God dammit, I just got spoiled the fact that Olly folds bowser to be on his side!” But then I beat the game...

So they actually took the complaint about generic, identical Toads... and made it part of the villain's motivation. Mmmmkay.
That was actually one of the more clever parts of the story, but the gameplay still sucks balls though

Look maybe for westerns, origami is boring or childish but I love origami and I love how they implemented so many ideas about it! I do understand that the battle system with normal mobs may be lacking and this is not the best Mario RPG, but this is by far the best "PAPER" mario for me!
And I appreciate originality well executed! As for westerns I understand that a lot of you just want functional standard mechanics with a good story, the later being the most important part for all games. And that's ok, to each their own!
Why does Nintendo just love killing off all of Mario’s main allies since Super Paper Mario?
Timpani sacrificed herself with Count Bleck from Dimentio’s destruction.
Kersti sacrificed herself to help Mario beat Bowser and his Royal Sticker power (yes she came back but she still technically sacrificed herself).
Huey sacrificed himself to destroy all of the Black Paint
And now Olivia sacrificed herself with Olly to restore the Mushroom Kingdom from the Origami Kingdom.
It was already hard enough losing Bobby in this game just why Nintendo?

Fun fact Bobby still travels with you even after he blows up. I mean you don’t SEE him but he’s there. How do I know? Well he blows up in sweet paper canyon, but if you return to shogun studios after yellow streamer and do the photo op, you’ll see him joining in the photos as a spirit. Which would imply he never left your side after he died.

This new characters feel like the live action Nick shows, were we add this new actor to the show for only one episode and once the episode finish we will never see him ever again.

The game serie where Mario traveled hell, saw a girl snap her neck to let spider legs out of here face, saw Peach get possessed by a demon, saw a entire world being erased out of existance, saw his own brother get possessed and fused with Dimensio to destroy the entire universe, saw a clan being brainwashed by a SEED GROWING IN THEIR BRAIN,... I could go on and on!

I find interesting that Bowser encourages Olivia. That's not the kind of things you would expect him to do. Also it's nice to see him having fun at the origami night with his son and minions, even him deserves to chill for once, he might be a bad guy, but with his standards.
At this point Bowser is more of an Anti hero than a villian.

You'd expect at least one twist after the game is over where bowser double crosses everyone and steals the princess, but no. He's too busy having so much fun with everyone, even in the credits.
Also, I could totally see Bowser as an anti hero in the mainline Mario games, especially after what happened on the moon :)
For anyone asking how he beat it so fast.. Nintendo did an oopsie like a week ago and released it then deleted it quick, people with modded switches had already beat the game by last week.

Dude, Bowser's an amazing father. One of the best dads in gaming despite being a villain; He's capable of disciplining them if they step out of line (as seen with him limiting Jr.'s Switch access) but at the same time, respects his children's interests, even actively encouraging their creativity (like how he supplies Jr. and the Koopalings with the tools needed to bring down Mario no matter how much they fail). He's a bad motherfucker, but definitely *NOT* a bad father.

-Mario's companion dissapears at the end
-Mario is sad and looks at the sky
-peach tells him that "she will always be with us in spirit" (almost the same phrase as color splash)

Except olivia is actually dead and (at least to me) it's more emotional
Except Huey came back in the Secret Ending, where as Olivia and everything made of Origami is just fucking dead forever.
No the endings might be similar but this game just so much more emotional than Color splash

Olly wasn't fully evil, he built a throne for his sister because he wanted to be with her
He was blinded by rage and built that throne for her hoping she could bring him back to his senses
Also I feel like it's a stretch but wouldn't he have attacked all the toads in the stands?
He also realized in the end just like pretty much every other bad guy so that's a stereotype and doesnt count
It's never clear if your audience permanently died, because it looks like they did, in the shot where the stands fall with the room and they fall with it.
Dio from JoJo's doesn't follow that stereotype. He knows from the beginning what he does is wrong, he just doesn't give a rat's ass and does it for kicks.

I'll say this; this game is a massive improvement over Sticker Star and Color Splash. While it is not as good as the first three Paper Mario games, it is definitely a really good and fun game. Hopefully, the next Paper Mario game will end up being even better and even more of an improvement. Maybe it will finally have the stuff we really want.

I've played around 45 hours with it and it exceeded my expectations by a lot. In my opinion it is a much better game than what the internet discussion suggests about it. Even most of the reviews are "it is a fantastic game but it is not RPG and the combat does not give XP, 7/10", which is really strange to me, like most people cannot simply measure this game on its own but looking at how it differs from a 16 years old game.
It is mainly an adventure, puzzle, collectathon game with beautiful graphics and music, clever and funny writing, charming story and characters and tons of unique ideas.
I personally loved the logic puzzle aspect of the combat (especially the bosses) and never got boring or frustrating to me but I can understand if someone feels different about it because it is really unusual and definitely not for everyone.
I am honestly sad that this game gets so much hate on the internet and there isn't really any discussion about it on r/papermario, only memes, because according to my experience with it it definitely does not deserve that. Not the best game of all time of course, but definitely something that adds much value to the Switch library and it's easily worth its price.

I agree! Origami King is a huge pleasant surprise. There's a lot of stuff in it that was completely unexpected. IMO it's my favorite paper mario
I mean it's part of a series of games. And it tried to bring back the RPG aspect of TTYD but there's no sense of progression because of the lack of EXP. All you get is coins, right? And you get that from doing Not-Bottomless Pits, leading most players to feel that random battles are a waste of time.
TTYD was the best in the series, it's completely valid to compare this to it despite being an old title. This is a thing EVERY franchise does, because if all you do is regress with every title, why am I still buying your games.
People need to realize that criticism is a valid form of discussion, and only exists to make people do better.
The only reason this game is remotely good is because they tried to appease the TTYD crowd. And they failed.

The saddest part about this ending is the possibility that Olivia might not have intended to sacrifice herself.
The fact that Olly folded her might have slipped her mind when she made that wish. She didn’t have to die, she certainly didn’t want to. But Olivia didn’t choose her words wisely...

In the paper Mario series Bowser and Mario are basically pals.
There's usually a rule of thumb that Boswer must always be the final boss in a Mario game, even if he has nothing to do with the plot. Look at Mario Tennis Aces and Mario + Rabbids.

Olivia’s sacrifice is just as sad as Kersti and Huey’s sacrifice. The major differences between the three is that Kersti gets revived and Huey is revealed to be still alive (if all six banners in port prisma are open), while Olivia remains deceased (at least she’s with her brother and Bobby in the afterlife). However, there is a secret ending.
