    I’m a nurse. He could have had a heat stroke with a fever that high. You judge emergencies by the severity of each patient. I would be livid and would turn them into the board

    Just because you can’t see why they are at the hospital doesn’t mean your kids sicker. I have a heart condition that makes my heart beat 200+ bpm. But you wouldn’t see anything wrong with me physically. And I get called back #1 priority. Never wait. I’ve had people yell and complain every time I get called back first. You don’t know what people are going through. 🤷‍♀️

    A fever above 104 can start causing brain damage or organ issues. They needed to prioritize things more appropriately. It doesn't go first come first serve in emergencies, it is by what is going on with them.

    Fevers are so scary. When my son spikes a fever, he has seizures. Literally so scary. I used to work front desk at the ER. It’s super challenging. But she really should of not said anything at all. I’m glad Weston is better now! Also, next time call an ambulance. You’re guaranteed a room then. ❤️

      Ikr they are the worst, the last time I had a fever was in 2019 (at the end of January in 2019) about 102.5 I was not feeling well

      I'm an EMT-Intermediate and going by ambulance actually doesn't guarantee a room (that's a huge misconception everywhere that we wish would go - patients get angry with us when they find out they have to wait after all), barring some kind of trauma, immediate life threat (compromised airway/breathing/circulation), dead w/CPR in progress, or dying. Everyone else gets triaged (intake papers, vitals check etc) and depending on the problem, being brought by ambulance MAY move you up in priority (in my opinion this should have been one). An EMT-Intermediate/EMT-Advanced, or Paramedic could have given IV fluids with acetaminophen en route and that would have been very helpful in this case. Fluids often help bring fevers down as not only are fevers dehydrating themselves, but fevers can increase because of dehydration, so it's a vicious cycle.
      That may have been a psych room but more likely it was an observation or overflow room. I've picked up many psych patients in ERs and usually they have their own area of the ER, often with enhanced security. Probably depends on the area and the hospital so may be different there. I can only speak to my experience.
      I'm glad he is better and I'm sorry that happened! My youngest had a febrile seizure at 1yr old. He went limp and unresponsive but was not feverish at that point so we called an ambulance because we had no idea why he was unconscious. He was like that for almost 10mins!!!!! He didn't feel hot until he was in the back of the ambulance and his temp was 103 there. It was actually the fast rise internally that caused him to pass out and not the fever itself, according to the dr. He said even if they don't feel hot on the outside yet it can be changing rapidly inside, and some people are very sensitive to that and pass out He has been fine since. He is 13 now. I have 8 other kids and none of them ever had that happen.

    My oldest son has ALWAYS spiked super high fevers. Even as an infant. At age 11 while we were on vacation... 13 hours from home he got sick. This child spiked fevers of over 107 for 3 days. It was a very serious kidney infection. His 1st ever. We were thankfully only 30 minutes away from a huge teaching hospital that had a separate pediatric ER when he got sick. He spent 11 days in the hospital! His doctor was onebof the top 5 pediatric kidney specialists in the country! My parents had to travel from our home town to get our then not quite 7 year old twins and take them home. It was a nightmare. Unfortunately, we had to learn HOW to treat his fevers... and when to run to the hospital. He's 37 now... almost 38 and to this day runs extremely high Temps. When he got married I warned his bride... she had all the stuff he needed. His 1st 3 times he spiked a fever after they got married that poor girl called me frantic begging me to come over! (Of course I did!) Poor guy.

    I’m surprise that they didn’t check his temperature in triage. They usually check your temperature, blood pressure, and pulse before they send you back to the waiting room. I know in my town, pre-patients go to a check-in room where they do all the things listed above. Do they not do that in your city?

    With how downhill ER care has gone where I live, it would take a limb needing to be reattached for me to go back. All of us, including my kids go to the clinic inside the grocery store. Our insurance covers it and as long as you schedule an appointment, there’s no wait. Even without an appointment the wait time is a million times less than the ER. They actually seem to care there too, unlike the ER staff.

    As a nurse it upsetting to hear things like this, your absolutely right to be mad at the whole experience.. next time call an ambulance since the patients that get to the hospital thru ambulance have priority or just take him to the Children’s hospital
    I had a similar experience with my son at the urgent care, doctors talking to me like iam dumb.. never again. From that point on I take him to the Children’s Hospital even if is an extra 20 min.drive
    Hope he feels much better, he is such a sweet boy ☺️

    I'm glad Weston is feeling better! You're much calmer than I am because I would have been screaming at those people to get us back and even if I was able to keep my composure waiting I probably would've screamed into the phone that nurse was talking on when she said "he has a cough".

    Are you serious?! 104 is pretty damn bad, shouldn't have let it get that high & stay that high for 2 hours?! Over 104 is severely dangerous especially for a baby/kid.. theres no telling the damage that was done to the poor little guy..
    No offense but it's on you
    YOU should have MADE them see him!!
    Not sit back and do nothing for 2 hours..

  • @MamaChapinaEnUSA
    @MamaChapinaEnUSA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thats crazy! Once I took my 3 year old to the urgent care with a 104 fever and they acted like it was an emergency! Running, getting ice packs, undressing her to help her cool off. Fevers over 106 are extremely dangerous!

  • @tatanyc713
    @tatanyc713 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That happens a lot in hospitals in NYC. That is why, when we see this is happening, we usually request to see a person in charge. The receptionist is not qualified to say who is sicker. That is why most hospitals have a triage nurse. As a rule, children, the elderly and pregnant women are priority because they are at risk. With a very high fever, children can go into convulsion in no time. I hope Weston is feeling better. Steph, this was very hard on you and Gage. I hope you guys are feeling better too. God bless.

    Emergency is not first come first serve it’s always based on severity. Your baby should’ve been taken in immediately. God only knows what brain damage was caused by having that high of a fever for that long. Hospital personal need to stop letting the power go to their damn heads and quit trying to play god and start listening to the patients and the parents of the patients. 😡

    • @Charis6540
      @Charis6540 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right, our ER is priority first, I waiting 6hours once with my daughter who was 3 complaining of kidney pain, I’ve also been seen right away when my son needed stitches at 12am from falling when he was walking back to his bed, a fever that high I would expect that to be priority

    I'm glad he is feeling better!

    So sorry about that scary experience for you guys. Poor little thing. Just an idea for anything like this next time if you have given him tylenol and it's not responding you can go ahead and give him ibuprofen on top of it the first time dose to control his fever while you them seen. A fever that high I would have given him both right away. Doctors in the ER had told me the 2 different meds are metabolized by different organs so in emergency situations don't hesitate to give both. I know that's scary as a momma.

    I’m so sorry to hear that. Fortunately, I have a central line and they take me back with a fever of 100.4 because it can become septic and bad things can happen. I’m sorry this happened to your child

    That poor baby... we are about 1.5 hours from children’s hospital and they are always so wonderful with my son. He has to go there often for his skin. I can’t believe the hospital you went to made you wait so long. I would have been so mad too!

  • @cassietheaker103

    I'm a mom of almost six with two step kids so I'd like to say I'm pretty seasoned, barf season tends to throw me a curve ball just cuz it's so unpredictable and I'm so grossed out by throw up have been all my life...... Anyways, I learned this trick maybe kid two or three into parenthood that a doctor informed me that you can give Tylenol every four hours and you can give ibuprofen every eight hours and if the fever is really giving the child a hard time I tend to use that rule. I also am a firm believer in a Luke warm bath, I just make my kids lie down and give them small sips of water cuz the room temp bath tends to stabilize them enough to drink enough water to cool them down quicker. I've been learning since my parenthood started at age 20 and I'm sure I still don't have all the tricks but there's nothing worse then a sick baby that you feel helpless in making feel better, hope this helps!

    It’s so scary when they have high fevers, my oldest when he was 18m woke up with a fever and came and laid with me at 6am I woke up to him having a seizure, we took his temp and it didn’t even finish reading and it was almost 106, we rushed him to the ER and the same thing he was so lethargic it was scary, the admin dr we saw was horrible, they were mad at me for not giving Tylenol right away and just calling his dr when their office opened, I was like we came straight here
