- Over 1200 Urdu poetry lovers attended @KarwaneUrduQatar grand poetry session titled 'Jashn-e-Munawwar Rana' held at the DPS-MIS School in Al Wakrah 2016.
Munawwar Rana was presented with a Life Time Achievement award and INR1,00,000 in recognition of his services towards Urdu literature and poetry.
Third secretary of the Indian embassy in Qatar, Dr Mohamed Aleem was the chief guest for the event. He along with Habib Hashmi, Azeem Abbas and KUQ President and Founder Atiq Anzar presented the award to Rana.
"This lifetime achievement award by KUQ is like an alternative of the Sahitya Akademi award for me. I always knew I would get my reward for taking a stand," Rana told the audience on receiving the award, referring to the Sahitya Akademi Award which he along with many others in India had returned.
