I'm glad you liked Dune! If you want to continue the series, I recommend reading Books 2 and 3 back to back, since the second book is more like a gate between the first and third books, and you'll probably feel dissapointed if you only read the second book on its own, but I definitely recommend continuing the books, since the full message of the series can only be understood by reading all of them, and imho its worth it
@Tessellating Tiger yeah I liked it too! I just think that if you are new to the series maybe the second one could be a bit of a let down plot and action-wise (if that's something that you liked about the first one). At least it was that way for me until i finished the book and could see how much it changed and analyzed the character of Paul, and I could finally appreciate what it does for the overall story

Hey @Natalya Vins, I read only 'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie & I liked it so much that if I pick up any other book of hers, it might destroy my love for her writing. To come out of this fear, what other Christie books would you recommend to me?

Dune is my favourite book. I haven't read the entire series, i got to God Emperor of Dune, which is the fourth. It is in a way the beginning of another arc. The second book is almost an enlongated epilogue, a more restricted space. It's tragic in a very Shakespearean way, you'll see hahah I also read "A Christimas Carol", it was my first contact with Dickens, and i really liked his voice. I felt a friend beside me, drinking a beer and telling stories. I found the unfolding a bit naive, but i think the proposal was to wake up a child in me, who is no longer in the living room. In that way it's a touching experience. Big Hug ✌🏾
omg ur introducing me to so many cool books!! your videos are always so engaging and calming i love how u talk about books :) also i totally agree with you about how female protagonists tend to be written in romances and ive never seen anyone else really discussing it, you put it into words a lot better than i ever could!!
Dune issues aside, my own December wrap up is actually quite impressive, if I may say so meself. I’ve completed the following books during the month: Wind-up Bird Chronicle, Notes From the Underground, Of Mice and Men, Clay Machine Gun by Pelevin, Therese Raquin and Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. Most of these turned out to be quite dark and somewhat depressing, except for maybe Murakami (superb storytelling) and Pelevin, which I listened as an audiobook in original Russian. Very satisfied with my December line up, all in all :)
When I first read Dune as a young teen, it was the first thing that ever made me aware of water as like an actual resource. It was the reason I stopped running the tap while I brush my teeth. XD My fave book of December was definitely Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. :)
I probably liked "The Love Hypothesis" a bit more than you did (including the inner monologues), but you made excellent points on elements of the book that didn't fully and consistently engage you.
I’m off to a great start for this year as I’ve already finished 2 books. Thank you Emmie for helping me get out of that scary slump. Ps: giving proper Slytherin vibes in that outfit 💚

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie was set on an island. It was the first time I was exposed to Agatha Christie in my middle school English class. I remember loving it in middle school, so much so that I bought it as an adult just to reread it.
I can think of 3 Agatha Christie books set on an island right off the bat: 'Evil under the Sun', 'Triangle at Rhodes' (both Poirot series) and 'And Then There Were None', which is a stand alone mystery. I adore Dune, it's one of my top 10 books ever!
Honestly, at the end of December I suddenly got the urge to get back to reading. When I found your channel, I wrote all your reads and all the books you recommend it. I put my goal on Goodreads as 6 books for 2022 and it's only the beginning of January and I already finished 1 book. My goal is set as a small number but it is more than I've ever read in a year so I hope to accomplish it and hopefully surpass it. Thank you Emmie, for all these reviews and recommendations!
not a book set in wintertime but in a hotel: Grand Hotel by Vicki Baum. One of my all time favorite classic reads. It was written in 1929 and plays in a hotel in Berlin in the 1920s. The movie adaptation of 1932 won an Oscar in the category “Best Picture” btw
OMG! your point about having to read on and on about the periphery life of the protagonist in romance novels is spot! on! i always get so bored having to read about their friends or their family. i am here for the romance , i do not care about anything else ahahaha.
I love this wrap up of your winter reads Emma. Especially your review of Dune. I'm tempted to give it a read after contemplating if I should for so long. Such a wonderful experience watching your videos 💓
For romances, I like when I can laugh at the ridiculous situations lovers find themselves in, like being caught in the rain without pants. Of course it's hard work constructing a story around something like that but in the end it's worth it, I think. Mostly I like when they're forced to admit they've humiliated themselves and have to humiliate themselves again to make it right. The other thing I like is decoding their communications during the time period before they surrender to what everyone else knows.
omg i completely agree with what you said on how you only wanted romance books to focus on the romance and dynamic between the two main characters instead of having to know the protagonist’s besties, life/family problems, etc 😩 istg its so hard to find good contemporary romance like that hence why i only stick with my classic romance sjkjkjks 🥲
My favorite Christmas-specific (not just winter) book I read in December was "Letters from Father Christmas," by JRR Tolkien. It's a collection of all of the letters that Tolkien wrote to his own children during Christmas time, pretending to be Santa Claus. It was adorable and wholesome and I loved it. 6/5 stars.
Darling Emma, of course i'm gonna read Castle in the clouds. I followed your recommendations and i read The Phantom of the Opera and The Enchanted Sonata; loved them!
those two winter reads honestly gave me so much Christmas spirit this year when I thought I didn't have any - so glad you loved Enchanted Sonata too :')
Love how you talk about books and your soothing voice, it has made me want to read again. Also, pretty sure the Agatha Christie is from the Miss Marple series but can't remember the title off the top of my head. It's something about a cruise. Lol.
Emmy: I really don't know which Agatha Christie book is set on an island Me: *awkwardly side eyes that book that changed it's name like four times since publication*
I was so scared to read Dune but I did it before the movie came out and it was my favorite book of 2021! The movie for me was the cherry on top so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Ok, but I love your earings so much, I need them!!! 💕👀 I think I'm gonna try doing the book earing myself... let's see what comes out of my craft time 😆
Happy 2022! What a great dec recap. I think my favorite December read was “chouette “ by Claire Oshetsky. I happened to grab it on my way out of the library and was so glad that i did. 🦉🌲
I really struggled with Mr Dickens and His Carol too. For the same reasons you mentioned, plus I've read several biographies of Dickens and I couldn't stop thinking "That's not what happened! That's not what happened!". I'd say if someone wants to experience a story of Dickens writing A Christmas Carol that takes some liberties, but grounds it more realistically, watch The Man Who Invented Christmas.
i read “great expectations” by dickens and oh my!!! i loved it so much!!! that book it’s honestly amazing. Now i’m into “little women”, so we’ll see how it goes 😊.
By the way, if you aren't aware, in addition to the latest Dune filmz there is an '85 film version of Dune directed by David Lynch, a 2000 SyFi channel miniseries, and just recently the first part of a graphic novel series. There is also a SyFi miniseries called Children of Dune that is an adaptation of the second and third books, Dune: Messiah and Children of Dune. I recommend them all, especially the Children of Dune miniseries.
You should definitely watch “The man who invented Christmas!” It’s a movie exactly about how Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” starring the amazing Dan Stevens as Dickens. I don’t remember the details of the movie as I watched it last year, so I can’t say if it was similar to “Mr. Dickens and his Carol” but I absolutely loved the movie so I would 100% recommend it! I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t really like “For the wolf” because I was looking forward to your review as it seemed just my cup of tea of a book. Probably won’t be picking it up haha.
Okay so I also recently read Love Hypothesis and I actually LOVED it but now that I heard your thoughts. I too agree that her thoughts/inner monologue make her seem WAY more immature and younger than she should be at her age/accomplishments!
it's so interesting that you bring this up about the female character in some romances being less fleshed out than their male counterpart because i felt the same way in quite a few things that i read this year and i don't really like it because it does the opposite of what it probably intends to at least for me and I feel less connected to the character. One series that I noticed doesn't do this is the Addicted series with two of the three female protagonists (at least in my opinion) and I loved that a lot about it!
Hey Emma! Love your channel! :) Also love the fact that you reviewed Dune at last. My favorite read of December was "Norvegian Wood" by Murakami. I'm a SciFi guy in general, but I explore anything that seems interesting (for me). I didn't expect to love this book, tbh. And this was my first experience with Murakami. This book is a full package: teenage adventures, sadness, happiness + many funny, wholesome and intimate moments.
I have a recommendation for you: Eighty-six, which is a light novel series. I thought about it when i saw you talking about the books. I am loving it at the moment, its heart-breaking, slow burn and deals with humanity. If you ever have the time please try reading it!
Since you like The Nutcracker, Sailor Moon, and fairy tales, I think you may enjoy the anime Princess Tutu. Don't be turned off by the name. It sounds childish, but I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It also has those a bit darker fairy tale elements without being super dark. It takes some inspiration from The Nutcracker with dancing and classical music featured heavily. It has a bit of a magical girl element thrown in there as well that adds a unique aspect to the series. I think Princess Tutu might be right up your alley.
The Agatha Christie book set on an island that you were asking about is "And then there were none". It's one of her best imo and i highly recommend it if you haven't read it already. 👍
Hi Emma, I'd like to suggest The twin by Gerbrand Bakker (I prefer the original Dutch title, which translates to Upstairs it's quiet). It's not a wintery book per se (though I am pretty sure there is ice skating in it), but years after reading it I do associate it with this season. It's a quiet, sometimes even bleak, look at the life of a middle aged man on a Dutch farm. Not for everyone I think, but I absolutely loved it. Plus, you could cross off the Netherlands on your reading around the word list!
In the end you asked for a wintry book 😂 so if you want a classic, i would recommend Little Women because it has Christmas in it and if you want something modern than literally any Heidi Swain book will do the job specifically Mince Pies and Mistletoe at the Christmas Market and another good one is Snowflakes and Cinnamon Swirls at the Winter Wonderland😍😊. I know the titles are soooo long 😂 but these books are definitely phenomenal ❄️❄️
i really like your earrings ✨and your books as well it seems like you had a good wintery/christmasy reads. mu december wrap up; christmas carol daddy long legs wuthring hights howl's moving castle hercule poirot's christmas
My favorite read of December also was castle in the clouds! I think I've also said this a thousand times by now 😂 What I can recommend so far (as I am currently reading it, I'm at page 150 of the German version) is snowman by Jo Nesbo, which is a thriller. I'm not sure if you're into that kind of stuff, but if you are: read it in the winter months!:) It follows Harry Hole who is a Norwegian inspector and tries to catch a murderer who leaves behind a snowman wherever he murders or kidnaps a woman. A movie with Micheal Fassbander was made out of it as well
Game of thrones!!! It was so good except for the last season OMG. The only recent book I finished was The Reckoning by John Grisham and it was really good. A WW2 vet kills the local priest and we're trying to find out why but all Pete is his name have to say is I don't have anything to say.
Always love your videos. I could never get into Dune, and I've tried, but glad you liked it. yes, Rise of Skywalker is very bad, but I'm also super curious what the 9 movies you saw were and what you thought of them.
I read For the Wolf after you talked about it in one of your December videos. I had pretty much the same thoughts about it. The beginning and the ending were great but the middle part was way too long. Overall I enjoyed it and I will probably read the second one.
I'm glad you enjoyed Dune. It's an amazing book and one of the best sci-fi books ever written in my opinion. My only criticism is that I think it's actually too short and that one of the characters gets killed off too early. But other than that I loved the characters and the setting. Lady Jessica is probably my favourite character and that scene between her and Gurney towards the end is the highlight of the book for me.
Ah I loved dune so much. I made a video about it on my channel as well just going through some of the themes in the book. It's kinda long but it would mean the world to me if a fellow fan would give it a watch and give some feedback!!
baha I’m so impressed with myself because it’s me😂 I just chuck the box high up and then pretend as if it magically falls from the book gods in the sky🤷🏻♀️

I'd say if someone wants to experience a story of Dickens writing A Christmas Carol that takes some liberties, but grounds it more realistically, watch The Man Who Invented Christmas.
Now you made me wanna read Dune and The enchanted sontan SO MUCH
i read “great expectations” by dickens and oh my!!! i loved it so much!!! that book it’s honestly amazing. Now i’m into “little women”, so we’ll see how it goes 😊.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOUR DUNE VIDEO AND YOUR REACTION TO START THE BOOK MYSELF
I'M FINALLY READY
Dune is my favorite book of all time
We love Dickens! Thanks for the warning on the historical fiction Dickens story!
Feels illegal to be this early. Hi emmie! Love from the Philippines!!!
hi lovely! sending you so much love
Hi Emmie I'm so happy to find your channel.
I also love to read 📚
After picking up a couple of your recs while book shopping, now you tell me about the flute playing phantom dude in The Enchanted Sonata!!!😡❤️
I have a recommendation for you: Eighty-six, which is a light novel series. I thought about it when i saw you talking about the books. I am loving it at the moment, its heart-breaking, slow burn and deals with humanity. If you ever have the time please try reading it!
Another great video, Emma
Beautiful glass
Plus, you could cross off the Netherlands on your reading around the word list!
i read in ARC of love and other disasters and absolutely adored it, i hope you give it a shot/love it as much as i did!!!!
Thank you!!!!❄️☺️
i really like your earrings ✨and your books as well it seems like you had a good wintery/christmasy reads.
mu december wrap up;
christmas carol
daddy long legs
wuthring hights
howl's moving castle
hercule poirot's christmas
My favorite read of December also was castle in the clouds! I think I've also said this a thousand times by now 😂 What I can recommend so far (as I am currently reading it, I'm at page 150 of the German version) is snowman by Jo Nesbo, which is a thriller. I'm not sure if you're into that kind of stuff, but if you are: read it in the winter months!:) It follows Harry Hole who is a Norwegian inspector and tries to catch a murderer who leaves behind a snowman wherever he murders or kidnaps a woman. A movie with Micheal Fassbander was made out of it as well
Nice stories
Thank you for making content, thank you for existing TT love youu
Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft is a great gothic winter read!
Overall I enjoyed it and I will probably read the second one.
i love your earrings sooo much
ee thank you! a couple of them I made myself!
When it comes to books set in hotels you can't do any better that John Irving's "The Hotel New Hampshire"!
I think more books get added to my TBR from watching your videos than anyone else's 😂
I'm so happy you liked Dune! :3
i scream to you on my knees to read colleen hoover romances
@@affanshikoh5069 Sure I'll check it out.
Happy new year Emma. I absolutely adore your review of A Castle in the clouds 😀
happy new year Maitreyee!!
One day we need to meet whoever is throwing you these boxes ;) Can’t wait for your thoughts on Dune
baha I’m so impressed with myself because it’s me😂 I just chuck the box high up and then pretend as if it magically falls from the book gods in the sky🤷🏻♀️
