They have their guitars tuned down a half-step from 440 (standard) tuning). Then they capo-up on the first fret to create standard 440 tuning so, if you tune your guitar normally to 440 standard then just ignore the capo. However, they might do that little trick to make the chords just a little easier to play (frets are then a bit closer together). The main chorus is G, G/D, G/F, C. The verse is G, D minor, A minor, F. There are a couple of different ways you can create these chords on the guitar and maybe I didn't name them exactly perfect according to theory, but those are basically the chords. If you play those chords without blending them, G-D-F-C and then G-D minor-A minor-F, you will really hear how those are the chords to the song. However, as you listen a bit closer to the record you will also hear how those are not exactly right, and that's where the chord blends come into play - G/D and G/F. A guitar is not a piano of course, it's more difficult to hit all the notes on the different frets and strings, and so a lot of times players "cheat" a bit to play certain chords, creating really neat and unique sounds as they do it. So while my theory might not be great or perfect, I hope I explained it well enough!!! Good luck. K. Now that I'm looking at it some more I think I'm sort of on the right track but still a little off. It is quite possible the guitar players are harmonizing chords. Early in the video when they go down to what I was calling G/F it appears Easton is playing a version of an F and the other player is playing something different! This would not surprise me one bit and would certainly explain why the chords are so darn hard to hear and figure out!!! lol. Awesome. Well, good luck to anyone trying to figure it out.
