My first album. Got it for Christmas by request. I was 11. Still one of my favorites.
I learned to play the electric guitar as a child, listening to Ritchie Blackmore. To play his musical pieces, the Vox Ac 30 Top Boost from 1960 whit Fender Stratocaster '57 is the most suitable amplifier.
Chickenfoot's "Highway Star" is just spectacular, a classic in its own right 🙂
(i soooo like their dual-howl at the beginning 😀 )
🎼🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Jon Lord said that when he hears Jimmy Barnes sing, he gets 'goose bumps on his goose bumps'. Also Jimmy was asked to audition for Purple back 1989 but declined due to his solo career obligations with his record company.
I’m 72 and grew with this music which is real music. It got it’s roots from the blues. 🎸
The textbook for all hard rock albums, Machine Head is. I don't know how many times I've heard the songs of it. Thanks, Ritchie and other Deep Purple members!
I would say In Rock is more of a text book. A lot of metal bands say they were influenced by that album more than Machine Head.
Ritchie Blackmore is the world's greatest rock talent.
Top 3 guitarist in the world 🌎
9:38 - That's because Ritchie played EVERY note CLEAN and everybody else just does chord runs.....
In the Spring of 1972, as a 16 year old, I discovered Deep Purple through Machine Head.
My favorite track right from the start was "Lazy". I had never heard anything like that!!!
Regardless of the fame of "Smoke On The Water" from "Made In Japan", "Lazy" is still my most favorite DP song. After that, "Child In Time."
Without Purple Passages, In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, made in Japan and Burn, high school would have been boring.
Every cut played at all the parties I attended
100%!
Great point by Joe about the delicacy and artistry on the Machine Head record and .....it Rocks
Best track on Machine Head...Pictures Of Home.
Such a beautiful & influential album, Machine Head...
Happy anniversary!! 😎👍💜
Deep Purple, and specifically Jon Lord, very early on (around '73 or '74, so still in my pre-teens...) did set my feet on the right path in what I wanted my organ to sound like - together with Pink Floyd's Rick Wright, I should add.
RIP Jon & Rick... 🙏
Took a few decades, but I do have (AND can play) a proper Hammond B3 organ & Leslie - modded myself to do Jon Lord proud!
Been involved in a few DP / Rainbow tributes over the years, obviously, but my main focus is creating something new when I can.
We all know without this seminal album, rock music as we understand it might have gone a much different direction. Thank you all for showing us the path to righteous redemption. Long Live Rock N Roll!
Happy birthday and happy anniversary. Greeting from fareast Indonesia
I was 12 years old. Machine Head was and is the Mount Rushmore of rock music. Child In Time live mad in Japan has the best live guitar solo ever. 1976 Germay, Frankfurt-Höchst Jahrhunderthalle. Supporting act to Rainbow: AC/DC believe it or not (with Bon Scott). Rainbow granted them a clean good sound. Ticket price 8 Euros to todays currency!!!!!! AC/DC gave them a hard time, but both bands were outstanding. Unbelievable.
Happy Birthday, Maestro!!
Thank you🙏🙏🙏 Mr Blackmore for all songs who gave as all this years....thank you for your masterpiece music🎶🎶🎶......
Thank for for this! It's great to see iconic heavy metal bands refer to Deep Purple as their baseline for what real music is. Deep Purple- mkII of course, has been exactly that for me. The depth, and artistry from each musician and instrument hasn't been seen since.
LONG LIVE RITCHIE .THE BEST
The new 2024 remix is AMAZING! Thank you for that!
BLACKMORE ‼️
As Lars of Metallica said at their induction into the R&R hall of fame. “Deep Purple were just better than everyone else”
Producer Martin Birch “They were the best at what they did”
Machine head is space 🚀 age, stratospheric ⚡️ .. outer 👽 limits … good time Rock n Roll .. with bells 🔔 on. 😀
DP>
Highway Star by Chickenfoot is absolutely killer !
This album was released in 2012 🤘🏻
I’m still flabbergasted at Satch pulling off Lords organ solo on guitar
Have a look at Phil X doing both the guitar and the organ solo's on you tube....!!!!
Lars' statement in the beginning is basically an admission that he can't hang with Ian Paice, which is nothing to be ashamed of. Paice is one of the most underrated drummers in rock IMHO.
Ian is phenomenal!!!
Metallica is more of a thrashy high energy and aggression style of music. They like to watch the kids pummel each other in the pit
Ian Pace and Bill Ward are both SO underrated.
The Greatest Band Ever!
Deep Purple’s music is required playing if you want to rock.
We love Deep Purple we love Ritchie Blackmore
Michael Anthony, doing that scream on the beginning of Highway star is just unbelievable. He’s got some vocal range, that’s why I never understood why Van Halen got rid of him. He was a lot of vocals in Van Halen. But I guess they had their reasons.
Mainly cause he wanted his son Wolfgang in the band
MA is the Secret Sauce of VH.
EVH was an egomaniac.
DP is rock band with the most skilled musicians at their field. Drummer, keyboardist, Vocalist and ofcourse guitar god blackmore. In the musical instrument skills, DP is uncomparable.
Super. Dziękuję
Machine Head. Rock history was written by this one. Richie Blackmore's leadership after Gillian's on Fireball. Result is the best hard rock album ever recorded.
I think Ritchie produced DP in Rock. Gillan Fireball and Glover MHead. (And Lord the Concerto 69)
Music direction was main thing and this one is mainly Blackmore's.
@@zdravkobitunjac9542 It was commercial, and when Rainbow wasn't commercial enough for Ritchie. Who did he call to produce?... Glover.
It's GILLAN not GILLIAN. Why do so many people get this wrong?. 🤔
@@FuturePast2019 Yes but Glover didn't produce Machine Head, that was Martin Birch.
Wow this is going to be fun ❤
I have original Machine Head vinyl but when I heard it about this 50th Anniversary super deluxe box I couldn't help myself, I need to order it and last week I have it.
On this tribute album, the version of Lazy is by far the best traCK, and almost as good as the original. Have a listen if you haven't done so already.
@@CB-xr1eg after original record it taked a moment from me to get use to these 2024 remixed versions, not for sure if I have totally use to yet. But yes, you are right, lazy sounds good.
Had that on a eight track and played all the time ,wish I still had that right track for sentimental reasons
6:16 Yes! These guys get it!
Pictures of home is truly interesting!!
My absolute favourite !
❤
I got an original pressing of Deep Purple's Machine Head from 1972....The jacket is split open but the plastic outer jacket cover holds it together... The inner sleeve is no longer white but a piss yellow colour and the original Lyric poster is still intact.... But the great thing is the album itself is in near perfect condition.... I love this album and I LOVE DEEP PURPLE MARK II.....
machine head, back in black, tres hombres, led zep 2 there are certain rock albums that make history
Ritchie we were waiting for you...where the hell were you for the tribute of this Masterpiece?
He was at a small venue in the middle of nowhere dressed up as The Black Adder with green stockings playing luth. Some says it was 9 persons in the audience.
@@tersan8547 jajajajajajajajajajaja
Only one of the members of Deep Purple were involved in this tribute, that was Glenn Hughes. So why single out Ritchie and not the others?
3:25 Chad Smith. Yes... the drumming on Maybe I'm a Leo... Impossible to guess next fill. Glenn never played that song ever before.
D.P for ever...
F the rock and roll "Hall Of Fame". More like the Hall of shame anyway 😂. Johnny Rotten summed that traversty of a place up perfectly.
Steve Miller tore the rrhof, go check out his comments. Deep Purple should have been inducted before Led Zeppelin
Mr Blackmore..I heard you once expressed a desire to write a book on the occult? I hope you do one day....how cool would that be? I'd love to have a Ritchie Blackmore book of the Occult on my shelves with all my classic occult books.
As a 69 year old keyboard player, it amazes me jsut how many bands want to cover DP without keys. WTF? Hire a freaking keyboard player! It'll only make your band better. Much Much better!
Totally agree.
Without the Organ, it's not Deep Purple.
But, in this case, they are doing versions, something also very creative, original, and great..., depending on those musicians' talent. And they got it!
Cool!
Awesome Jimmy Barnes
I like Never before cover.
19:43 "We all came out to Montereau" (FYI: Montereau is a town 80 km from Paris, and 450 km from Montreux in Switzerland)
FYI, He sings Montreux not Montereau. Try listening properly.
@@CB-xr1eg Obviously, French is not the singer's first language (and neither yours).
@@sfermigier I don't know why you say that. The singer (Ian Gillan) was not trying to speak French. He was singing about Montreux in Switzerland. And he pronounces it the correct way. Google it if you like. Stop getting your panties in a bunch about what you mistakenly think is a mispronunciation.
@@CB-xr1eg Did you watch the video? At 19:43 the singer is not Ian Gillan but Jacoby Shaddix (singer for Papa Roach). And he doesn't know how to pronounce "Montreux". Why do I have to get insulted for pointing a funny fact?
@@sfermigier Fair enough but he still doesn't sing "Montereau". He sings it as *Montrow*. Maybe its you who should watch, and listen properly.
Ők királyok 👑 voltak a hard rock zenében.
Funky Claude was the guy who puts together the Montreux Jazz Festival and invited Purple there
Claude Nobs I believe is his full name
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Sounds very painful. Clawed Knobs.😮
❤❤❤❤
it was music made from the soul, they had a balls mate
Lars knows his music. I would love to talk rock music with him
Ez a cd is megvan a Deep Purple együttestől. 👍
My opinion: it's THE most under rated rock album ever. It gave us the most influential rock song of all time, (Smoke on the Water) and the greatest Purple song ever, (Highway Star). I gotta say though; as great as the players paying tribute on this project are, listening to their analog of 'Lazy', the riff just doesn't quite have the same swing as Blackmore on the six string.
I thought Machine Head is highly rated all this time. Is it really underrated?
@@JenSenYermi Certainly not underrated in the eyes of the fans, but in the general music world, it doesn't get the accolades that albums I believe it is equal to, like Dark Side of the Moon, some of Zeps offerings receive......
@@JenSenYermi I'd just like to add......I did a quick search. On a site called 'discovermusic' the album is ranked 95th!!! And you should see the company it's surrounded by....the Pretenders, Blink 182, Smashing Pumpkins......seriously?!!
"Underrated" is the most overrated word on you tube....
Jimmy Barnes doing Lazy. Love it.
Best track on the tribute album IMO.
First album I ever bought!!!!
About ‘delicacy’… Ritchie said in interviews that he act-lays very lightly. Which is true. Compare his picking to, say, Steve Morse. Morse hits the string like a jackhammer. Thing is that it does not result in more sound. Rather, it loses nuance. The other thing Satch mentioned is the distortion and other stuff that folks imagine is in the music. Reality is Blackmore’s sound was quite clean. Yeah he did occasionally use effects, but he was not using fuzz or distortion. He was boosting the input on the amps.
13:36: Purple actually believed Never Before was going to be the ‘hit’ from Machine Head. With good reason; it is simple, catchy, melodic, with a strong bridge. But of course things worked out differently
@@Gk2003m I read that they put more effort into NB than other tracks as they wanted it to be a hit single. I think they made a mistake though, they should have released it as a single but not put it on the album. Fans buying the album had already got the song so they weren't going to buy it twice. When A Blindman Cries should have been on the album instead of Never Before, but Ritchie he no like it!
👍🤘
Deep purple great they taught everyone else eggs and water from farmers daughter
Gillan said that was just a fun song, but they made a mistake putting it on the album.
0:45 - 50th anniversary dope...
It's from 2012
The irony of you getting it wrong and calling someone else a dope.🤣🤣
Funky Claude is Claude Nobs
😎
To let Jimmy Barnes near deep purple is criminal
Nah he was ok, he didn't have to do too much. I don't actually like him that much as he tends to yell rather than sing most of the time but he was ok on this track.
I think the band would disagree with you on that.
Even Joe can't play Lazy right :-)
Nonsense, he does a great job. He didn't copy it note for note but that wasn't a mistake.
😮❤😅
I'm a Deep Purple fans since about 1974. Somehow I never like Machine Head much. That's because I've bought Made in Japan first. Anything that came after that was a bit disappointing...
That was my same exact experience.
In fact, I've bought "Who do we think we are", as my 1st Rock album (1979). I was listening to it all day long, days and days, never get tired of. I was impressed. After that, I was buying "In Rock" ("Myyy G...!" what a masterpiece!), "Fireball", "Made In Japan" and "Made In Europe" ("Hey, who's that singer?, he's not Gillan, but... wait, he is awesome!"), "Come taste the Band" ("who are all those guys?, not Ritchie here?? wtf..., but... it sounds incredibly great!")
I was literally getting crazy listening to that fantastic Rock music. I became an unconditional DP/Rbw/Wtsnk fanatic, from those years. Listened sometimes MkI albums, but not very excited on that early stuff (nowadays, I love it. Not every track, but love it, same thoughts on "Concerto...") Some day it came to my hands "MH", and I recorded it on tape. But I didn't like it very much. "Strange..., it sounds weak. Not that 'In Rock' powerful and savage sound and playing. I miss here a 'Rat Bat Blue', 'Fireball', or a 'Into the Fire' like track and sound. Here they seem as if they didn't want to make much noise, so bothering neighbors. And it sounds as if they were in a corridor".
In fact, they were in a corridor, at a Swiss hotel. I didn't know that, as I couldn't read that foreign language by those years and I didn't understand texts writen on that album, neither songs' lyrics sung by Gillan ("Smoke on the Water", explaining what happened to them at recording that LP).
Today, I don't play this LP so much, prefering always the "Made in Japan" sound.
The same case I experienced with "Made in Europe" respect from "Burn" or "Stormbringer".
Sharing thoughts on this great Band...
Much people talks about Led Zepps and Black Sabbath, when speaking about DP.
Imho, both are great bands, but at a lower level, compared to DP
Holy Trinity - black sabbath / deep purple / led zeppelin / Rock hard or not @ all
1972 - 2024. 50th Aniversary? I don't get it.
China/Election virus two years.
That's because the tribute album was done in 2012, the 40th anniversary. And although it was posted recently, this is an old video. Got it now?
This video is 12 years old...lol
Still interesting though!
I know... They kept saying "40 years ago" and I didn't know wtf they were talking about!!
Did anyone die in the fire of that Zappa gig?
No deaths and very few injuries.
In light of the recent awful new DP lyrics I think I am beginning to realise something….I am beginning to realise that in the Gillan/ Blackmore feuds down the decades the notion of Ritchie being the nucleus of the problem is not as true as I was led to believe. (Paul with his Father in Pevensey)
I could deal with most of it, but, really, The Flaming Lips doing Smoke????? They couldn't get anyone better for it???? And usually, I do not like these types of albums. The Flaming Lips doing Smoke is equal to country singer Lori Morgan doing Freebird. To me.... blasphemy.
I know, lousy choice right?
😅
The Pictures Of Home version is terrible
Sorry folks they were all trying too hard.Filling all the holes with guitar noodling.Leave this music alone IMO.
Bollox.
again these disguisting metallica mcdonalds metal faces
I stopped watching when i seen hughes on the screen 👎
Thanks for letting us know!
i thought hughes was in mark III. seems a little odd for someone that close to the source to want to commemorate the more famous mark that he wasn't in.
So what !
Thanks heaven you told us, we'll all sleep better now we know that!🙄
Wow, old and boring. Zzz...
Glen Hughes is starting to look like Yoko Ono
So wrong but funny as hell.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
