Story goes that after the landings they collected all but one cameramans footage , put it all in one bag to send it back to England ..... and promptly dropped it overboard . I have often wondered what was on all that film .

That story stems from director John Ford and the footage of his crew. The footage wasn't intentionally thrown overboard, it was in a duffel bag that was accidentally dropped in water. Small distinction, but important. What survived that was sent back to London for processing, and the government ultimately chose to not show the remaining footage, as there were too many casualties. So the footage, like any good government property, was sealed away and forgotten about until ~2000ish where it was rediscovered and rolled into a larger compilation called The Shooting War, which can be found here on TH-cam.
And, of course, that is only the Omaha footage. Film shot on the other landing sites survived, but a lot didn't manage to clear the censors, who were rightly worried about the impact such raw footage would have back home.

Thats the main problem with historians nowadays .... you guys think it is ok to fill in motives when you have no clue why . All we KNOW is that the film hit the water , accident or intentional , makes no difference so why add to the facts ?

Back off. I made the effort to fill the gaps in with factual history (which matters a WHOLE lot, better than your halfassed "story goes" legend spinning) that can be EASILY verified, and you step right up to character assassination. That just tells me exactly who and what you are, somebody I'd cross the street to avoid. Bye now.

My father's cousin was in the second wave. All he'd say is "I survived." He tried to watch "Saving Private Ryan" with us, but when it got to D-Day, a few minutes in, he got up, went to the bathroom and started vomiting.

But seriously, the bravery of the British, Canadian, and American troops on D day was incredible, as well as all the resistance fighters in all occupied nations, and all the Indian, Australian, and all other nations and people that helped end the Nazis, Fascists, and imperial Japanese.
