That singing added a whole new dimension to the poem. I watched this over, and over, and over again. You women did a phenomenal job. One of the best poems I have heard, maybe even the best.
"I could stay here where my eyes don't hurt much. And it don't feel like I've been looking at the sun all day long." Such beautifully painful imagery. I started balling!
This is beautiful. Such a gripping piece. The imagery that has been created really warmed my heart with the feeling of summer, yet there was so much coldness created by the voice's pain. By the time the poem had ended, I realised that I hadn't moved, and that my eyes had been glazed over. I feel like I just watched an amazing short film.
At first I was so engulfed in that girl's voice then slowly, I turned my head to something that was a lot more deeper and deep. The both of them really did an amazing job
I’ve recited this poem and “Healing” by Nayo Jones during some of the darkest times in my life .. for the best 4 years this poem has saved my life so many times and I will forever be grateful for it
I genuinely might title this as my favorite poem of all time. the black girl experience that I've witnessed just profoundly presented. It's like she mastered the ability to trap a moment. Ugh my words can't even describe it, I just love this poem so much.
My English professor introduced me to this poem. And I absolutely love it ! It not only embodies emotional, pain and hurt, but for me it coincides hope. That although a person may not be quote on quote beautiful in the sense of societal or cultural standards, there is always something beautiful found in the heart and soul of a person. The musical addition to the poetry creates, dimensions to the many possibilities of interpretation. Just Amazing ! Shout out to Professor Chaney for the intro's to academic as well as cultural art !
I want to see her live too. This peom touched me. Your peom Sepia touched me too. Why do we discriminated against eachother, when we're already being discriminated against by others? Why do we try and mimic a race that oppresses us?
THIS!!! WOW! The performance as a whole is almost emotionally overwhelming... To me it's like the singing in the background makes the poem itself no longer a "mad poem" .. I imagine it to be somewhat how people felt when they saw/ read the end of Romeo and Juliet for the first time. The only way something so beautiful (the feeling you get from the singing) can exist, is through through tragedy....... You can't have THIS. Without THAT.
i am so thankful for experiencing this; i know that's selfish, because it's not for me. it made my white skin burn and bubble. i think your words effect people; and change them. and there is not a more beautiful thing in this world than having that ability. i am truly envious.
It's such a shame because it's such a wonderful poem and song and singer and poet but she got the words wrong. "Blackbird singing in the dead of night" not sitting and "We were only waiting for this moment to be free" not to arise (that's the first one)
I keep coming back to this, year after year, thank you.
Wow, thanks!
That singing added a whole new dimension to the poem. I watched this over, and over, and over again. You women did a phenomenal job. One of the best poems I have heard, maybe even the best.
I had the honor of watching them preform live... Our hearts were in our throats.
@@PaulaAbdulRoxxxx6 Are they mother and daughter? I've been wondering...
It really has a strong feeling. Really deep.
"I could stay here where my eyes don't hurt much. And it don't feel like I've been looking at the sun all day long." Such beautifully painful imagery. I started balling!
I wish this would go on forever.
