The line ftom Whitby to Loftus cost about 3 times the estimated cost at almost £660,000. Primarily due the the tunnels and viaducts and the abandonment of a section of trackbed. Closure of the line saved about £60,000 in routine maintenance costs for the period 1958 to 1960. Due to construction difficulties a different route inland via Ugthorpe to Hinderwell was proposed.
Staithes viaduct was the lines Achilles Heal as after the Tay Bridge disaster it was fitted with a wind gauge. If a wind pressure registered more than 28lb per square foot no traffic was allowed over the viaduct until it had be fully inspected.

This must be a virtual view, was watching from link you provided but couldn’t mark the 👍🏼 so opened the link to my subscription to your channel. Found I had to start over. Is the coast really that close by the rails?

There are a few lines in the uk that are almost on the beach, Cleethorpes Station is built on the beach. Geo. Google Dawlish Storm where waves come over the track.
