    I've had this same safety razor for a month and it's the first kind like it I've owned. It's 10 times better than the disposable razors I've used.

      I have a safety razor my father had lots better than the mach3 but if I seen a safety razor for €7 I'd definitely buy it because if a razor is bad it's the blade that's at fault and the dearest double edge blades are way cheaper than the catrage blades which to be honest are a gimmick as you find out when you start shaving with a safety razor and the safety bar on it is more than adequate to protect you from cuts.

    So I went and bought this razor right after I watched your video. I was blown away! I paired it with a Gillette Platinum blue blade and dare I say...it gave me a better shave than my Merkur 23c. I immediately went back and bought another one. I am going to give one to a friend as a gift.

    Over $2,000 spent in the last 6 years on fancy razors and brushes and I could of had a perfectly good shave with this $7 beauty? Color me amazed. LOL. In all seriousness, another great vid, keep them coming and happy belated 4th of July.

      Don't feel bad, I did the same thing. I spent probably over 2,000.00 on every kind of razor you can imagine, I just got a Q shave razor off Amazon for 7 bucks and it shaves better than any 100.00 dollar razor I bought.

    • @profesam8457
      @profesam8457 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason, you should exercise caution. I bought one of those razors and it wouldn’t hold the blade evenly. The design just lacked precision. I tried to even it up but.... glad I didn’t spend more on it. For just a couple dollars more you could get a razor that would be a significant improvement.

    • @waltermh111
      @waltermh111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@profesam8457 Yeah, I can tell the difference just from watching reviews. I actually have the Van Der Hagan razor and its a good beginners razor, but no, anybody saying it gives as quality a shaving experience as a nicer razor really hasnt spent $2000 on others.
      Now, I will say that you dont need to spend $100, but you can definitely do better than this razor. I have 2 of them from the last 5 years and I am ready to upgrade, especially as I have sensitive skin. So these nicer mild razors are on my radar and looking at a lot of reviews now.

    • @profesam8457
      @profesam8457 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@waltermh111 I scored a like new but used Feather ASD2 a couple of years ago for only $100. A steal for that price! It is the mildest razor I have. Great for sensitive skin. With a Feather Blade it is still remarkably efficient. Very little irritation. It is a fairly costly razor but I have used it as my daily driver for over two years. I don’t find myself looking for razors anymore. I still have most of my old razors and enjoy using them from time to time “Just for fun,” so to speak. Two good but comparatively inexpensive AND MILD razors are the Merkur 34c and the Gillette Heritage inspired razor. Both great quality and about $35. I still prefer my ASD2. There are other costly razors that are reported to be good and mild. I’m sure they are, but I can only report on the ones I have had experience with. YMMV and remember that advice is only worth what you pay for it and mine was given for free. I guess that means it might not be worth anything!?!?

    • @waltermh111
      @waltermh111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@profesam8457 well a lot of people seem to like the feather and I I do have sensitive skin. It's not a very even face either. I will look into it. I wouldn't mind $100 if it's good enough so I will see what I can find from your suggestions. I am more inclined to go for the cheaper option but also not going to go for a $7 shave either.
      Thanks

    I bought this over a month ago and it's still a working razor. I've notice that the blade sticks out more and gives a closer shave than my Feather saftey razor. It does however wear the blade more and you get a razor burn earlier than with my other razor. It's still a great smooth finished shave.

    • @waltermh111
      @waltermh111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems that is called aggressive style and seems that the benefit of the "nicer" razors is their "mild or medium approach, which is safer and should cause less burn. I have sensitive skin so definitely interested to move up and try a mild razor because I like the Van Der Hagan better than cartridge, but I feel exactly as you do when using it.

  • @joesellers3871
    @joesellers3871 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Thanks for the great video. I really appreciate that you give an honest opinion. Some of the other shaving guys out here would have you to believe you got to have a 80.00 dollar razor, a 30.00 dollar shave soap, 50.00 dollar brush to get a smooth shave. Like you, I use Barbasol or Gillette shave foam. No cuts and a smooth shave is the outcome. I been thinking about this razor, but after your review I know that I will get one now.
    Thanks

    And you are right, go slow. I rushed a shave last night with a mid aggressive razor from global shave club, and butchered my face. Never done it before with that razor. Gotta relax and savour the 20 min I have alone.

    • @nekekaminger
      @nekekaminger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yep, if you are from Europe this is probably your best choice to get started. In my local supermarket it costs 2,75€ including 5 Blades (the 10 pack of the same blades costs 2,50€ so the razor effectively has the price of 5 blades). This has been my only DE for over 10 years and while it can't compete with the Timor I bought recently it beats every cartridge razor I've tried so far.

After watching your video of the Dollar General Shavely I divided to pick one up and give it a try. I didn’t want to spend much and have it not help my problem. I just finished my first shave with it. Holy 🐂! This is the best shave I have had that I can remember. Amazing. I hope I avoid the in grown hairs. I want this to be the way I shave, period. Thank you for this video, although I’m 71, I’ve never shaved with a safety razor. Looking on line to buy one, all recommendations have steered towards razors like the Merkur 34c etc, but these are around $80 - $120 here in New Zealand. I bought a cheapish one of $20 after seeing your video and I’m pleased with the result. I’m converting to DE shaving! Cheers, David.

      I have recently been using those Derbys in my Heritage that I carry as a travel razor. I agree that it’s a great setup! Here’s a tip for traveling with a DE razor. Since the TSA will not allow blades on the plane I just mail myself a couple of blades in care of the hotel (with Conf/Res number) wherever I will be staying and I am perfect when I arrive. Tape the blades to a notecard and stick it in the envelope with instructions to hold it for you in case the letter gets opened. (Some young clerks do not understand what “%”, “c/o”, or even “in care of” means.)

    Your videos are always fun, entertaining and educational to watch my friend!!!!! Sadly, I had to give up my endeavor to wet shave with a safety razor due to the fact I've been shaving with cartridges for 30 years. However, by finding a disposable razor that I like and can make each one last 2.5-3 weeks, I think I shave with cartridges a lot cheaper than most people do!!!!

    • @profesam8457
      @profesam8457 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wayne, what were the issues that turned you away? Perhaps an experienced DE shaver could recommend solutions. After Starting out as a DE shaver with the Gillette Slim that my dad gave me in the ‘70’s I didn’t start using a cartridge until decent DE blades became almost impossible to acquire. I then used a cartridge for nearly 20 years before the resurgence of DE shaving and I was happy to change back. I can advise on both inexpensive as well as more costly options. I use what I like not just what I see “hyped”. When I did use cartridges I rarely changed blades according to the recommended schedule. I stretched out their use. At any rate, I’m glad that you have found a workable solution.

    Wow, yeah, it's really an awesome video. It shows you can shave with a safety razor for little money. Every man can do it and test it. You can't say it often enough during the shave no pressing. I want to quote Deep Purple. On their excellent album Fireball is the great tune No,No,No. I think the song was created during a shave with a safety razor and many troubles.One of them overdid it with pressing and Ouch. Then he wrote the tune 😀👍. You are absolutely right it's very important to take time for a smooth shave.An hour can go by with three times and than you have a good baby face. The women want to touch it and feel the gentleness. The skin feels like a peach. At least most. You are an outstanding tester for new products and i love it. Keep it up.

Going back to safety razor permanently now. I had a Merkur hd34c but lost it. I'll grab this shavelys because I've always been curious about it. Your spot on about that dollar tree razor. It's garbage. Once you get used to a safety razor it's really hard to go back to carts. Even the most expensive cartridges don't come close to the smoothness of a DE

    Always keep the included blades and packaging. In 40 years it will be a collectors item. Save the receipt too. Imagine if you had a new in original packaging FatBoy, oh my.

    The cheapest DE razor I ever used is a plastic Gillette razor that I found at 7Eleven in Thailand. It shaved surprisingly wel. Especially considered it did cost about a dollar.

      It's a very kind on the face razor. I've shaved with it for 5 consecutive days now without any problems on my face. I've also did the 3 shave technique on each day. And when I used an alum block to sell the pores mostly I didn't get any sting come back. So to summarize I'll say it's good. Best of luck.
      Oh my only grip is I think for them to put the name King C on the box it then should of been made in Boston.

    Nice! Was looking for this. DE shaving with cheap stuff. Because I'm new to DE shaving (I shave daily and have been using cartridge). Your videos inspired me to go DE. But I've been cutting myself up pretty badly and frequently. I'm wondering whether it was the low quality stuff. Maybe the pressure?

    I absolutely love this video...... I have come to a similar conclusion...... in the words of Bill Murray......" it just doesn't matter"....... high dollar razor or Dollar General Shavely............... go slow....... be careful.......... I have a Gillette 1960 Fatboy on the way but only cause I was born in 1960 and I thought it would be cool. I have great shaves with plastic 7 O'Clock razors too........ my favorite is the vintage Schick injector.........let me say again......... go slow.........LOL

      Used my Schick injector tonight after work.............. overall amazing results as usual..... I love the sound of this thing cutting....... I did get a nick at the corner of my mouth......... note to self...... have the after-work cocktail after you shave..........

    An $18 Weishi razor I got on Amazon last year is pretty aggressive compared to the other Van Der Hagen and the Bevel safety razors I own. It doesn't really nick me unless I have a bump or another type of extrusion.

    That interesting contraption is the way that most people bought their razor blades back in the day. I started shaving back in the '70s and that's how the drug store or supermarkets sold them even decades before that!

    Another really inexpensive option that punches orders of magnitude above its weight class is the Lord l6. Might be marketed as the lord platinum. It has a very similar head to a merkur 34c hd, but it's more aggressive and efficient and a handle that is vaguely based off an old gillette tech. 7 or 8 dollars on amazon made in egypt. That lord platinum class blade it comes with is quite nice as well for someone with bo experience the blade should serve them well.

    I'd like to see a video on your favourite top 10 de safety blades. I'm a newby to shaving with a safety razor and watched a few videos and went straight out and got the feather blades but found out the hard way not all blades suit everyone. Iv had to experiment a bit to see what works for me. So be nice to see what you would recommend as the best blades and how they shave and what type of skin you would class them best for.

    @SinatraLennon, Pepsi Blue is ok.... I get a taste of blueberries from it, but they say it's a raspberry/cotton candy taste. I would say try Pepsi Mango if you can find it. Pretty good. On the shaving side, recently got a Muhle R41 and I will say, you can feel that blade on that one! Very close shave on that razor!

    Those blades are Persona Barbers and they are hit or miss I have found. I had one tuck that was horrible and another that was close to the blues in quality.
    Also, those blade packages are speed loaders when used with that style of razor, you don't even have to take them out, just push them forward and place them over the centre post in the razor and let it fall into place. No need to handle the blades with your fingers.
