I respect the Sayadaw and highly probable that He is liberated. I feel sad reading the preface. Those words are harsh and not in line with Discipline pali canon. I agree that we shouldn't impose ourselves to Sayadaw and disturbs him. But I don't think Sayadaw is discouraging Dana and generosity. He wants people to search for their own liberation so Sayadaw is reminding everyone to perform dana in hope of liberation and dana to Sangha instead of to him. I think preface does injustice to Sayadaw.
