As a Nelson ledges veteran hands down best thing for lap times is sacrifice late braking for smooth fast entry. This place is just big wide sweepers, if you enter low on corner speed then that corners shot.

      Are you driving or riding?
I'm thinking of going to a motorcycle track day.
How is it for spectators on track days? Pretty hot and boring?

I’ve been lucky enough that the Steakburgers team has been out and operating at every event.
    Thanks for the video.

Good to know. I wasn't sure how regular a thing that was.

I can second Mike Skeen's videos. They are probably the most accurate line I have seen on youtube for this track.

Yup, the only grain of salt to that I'd add is there's going to be a big difference between a late model Porsche 'cup car on slicks and pretty much any street car. That probably explains some differences in his line through 12/13 vs. the "school line" and possibly how he's able to stay tighter (it would appear) through the Carousel. Definitely a great reference video though regardless. I know it helped me get up to speed quicker.

Thanks Richard. Very informative. I love the photos from the 70s(?). Those old Porsches and some of the other cars look so cool.

Yeah, in today's world that's quite the investment grade portfolio of vintage race cars. Photos were from 1977.

My parents and uncle used to race out there during the 70’s, and we would camp out in the center during the 24-Hour Endurance weekends.

That looks like a really nice track! Hope that we one day can do a "track tour" across the states (We are planning Norway - Sweeden - Finland - Denmark - Germany next year)

That sound awesome, we're working on plans to make some kind of Euro/Scandinavian excursion, but things still need to calm down a bit in the world for it to make sense. The U.S. I think has quite a few regional gems like this in addition to the grand old circuits like Road America, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, etc. that are in the sims/videogames.

Years ago, friend of mine was instructing there. With permission of the Chief Steward, he took his student out for a fast lap in a Chevy van since the student was dogging it in a 510. He tried to convince him if a van could go that fast, then a 510 definitely could. In the end, the student didn't get much faster, and it was recommended he go do some autocrossing for a year and maybe a Solo I event rather than road racing. He was still slower than the van.

I've done enough instructing to have realized that it's easier for me to show than to tell. I've never tried it with a van though, lol.

Just a heads up nelson ledges quarry park is a place where there are stages for electronic/reggae/tribute music and it is loud and a lot of 20 year olds are there. Not exactly a calm place to sleep

No mention of the bridge? That's one of the more unique features of this track. It's really entertaining to spectate from there when a fast car flies underneath and the whole bridge jumps up. Someday they'll rebuild it and I'm sure it'll lose that elasticity. That'll be a shame.

I mean, it was in the thumbnail shot for our track feature on Nelson. Definitely a unique opportunity though with many bridges on other tracks boarded over to keep people from crowding on them.

Thinking about taking my 390 Duke to an open track day.
Are there small bikes there? It looks like a decent track for smaller bikes.
