I hear that. As a member of the working poor, I've been to two Canadian provinces and three US states, and we literally don't have this kind of history in the part of the world I'm allowed to explore. These kids have opportunity, money, and moxie, and I thank them for opening the world up to people like me, who otherwise would never even know about places like this.
Do you have the means to own a decent computer? Google Earth and Street View will give you a lifetime of exploration. And if you can afford a VR headset, then Google Earth VR is astonishing.
We visited Mont Ste Michel in October 2017, and it truly is a magical place. We were fortunate that there was no restoration work going on when we where there, but the day was mostly cloudy and there was a chill in the wind, but the crowds were small. The numbers and letters carved into the stones were to identify the individual stone workers for payment. We did the audio tour which was so informative. Thank you for this lovely video and for igniting my wonderful memories of the place!! (I live in Canada)
So glad you enjoyed seeing it again Shelley 🥰🥰 Its such a special experience. Hope it remains well maintained for many years to come! Fascinating about the workers marks! What a monumental task they had on their hands, mind blowing! Thank you for watching ❤
Got engaged there in '97 while backpacking across Europe. We explored the place with the same sense of awe you guys did. Loved it. We even visited the same time of year. Had the run of the place. Good to see it hasn't changed-except no LED Christmas lights then.
Sam & Jess, thank you both sooo very much for taking this non ambulatory person on a trip of a lifetime!!! One that, without you, I would never have gotten the opportunity to experience!!! It certainly isn’t handicapped friendly or accessible!!! You have given me this wonderful opportunity to experience the breathtaking architecture, Medevil times, history & outstanding craftsmanship of the beautiful stonework & fine handiwork far beyond its years!!! Words cannot express the gorgeous views of this treasure!!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with me & the world!!! I love you guys so very much ❤️💕♥️ I truly loved it 👍🙏❤️💕♥️
I feel the same way! I’m not in good shape either. Don’t think I could ever do all of those steps plus I am liable to fall down. It was wonderful that they made this video for people who can’t actually visit this magical place!
@Beaudile Obviously , you must be young in years and enjoy good health with no disabilities.. Accidents, illness and old age can make anyone, young or old into a disabled or handicapped person. I hope you never have to experience it to learn some compassion. and respect.
We visited in 2010, an amazing place. After climbing up to the abbey and touring it, we went all the way back down to find our hotel room. We checked in and then had to climb again to our hotel. When we arrived at our hotel we had to climb again to the top floor. We opened the door to our room only to find more stairs! I think we had the highest hotel room on the island!
As someone from Ohio in the United States , this is absolutely stunning and I now know where I need to be . Barricade me in their with God, my family and a few friends and I’ll be set. Leave the world and their corrupt, evil, negative mindset to the mainlands . I could stay there for the rest of my days ❤ it is so breathtaking beautiful there. Thank you for sharing
I went here for dinner one evening yrs ago & had a walk around the village earlier it is truly magical. I pray I will get the opportunity to return one day. ❤️🐨🇦🇺🙏🏼
Thank you Sam and Jess for such a comprehensive video on this medieval city. It certainly holds such old energy, and to actually be there would be mind-blowing. I can feel the energy of the place as you move through the streets, and when they only had fire torches to use at night in that period, goodness what treacherous incidents could happen. Just such a treat to take your viewers there. Many thanks from Australia.
the architectural engineering that they had in those days, let alone the esthetics, the foundation on which that castle is built on, that has withstood the test of time and still in perfect condition. Thank you for taking your time and not rushing through. It was at a very nice pace, as though I were there. It is such a wonderful place. It made me think about how it would have felt to be there 6 or 7 hundred years ago.
So true. I've been there for a side trip during winter it was soo magical and the fallen of snow just started .. planned to go back there and stay for days. they said sunrise is so enchanting as well
What a wonderful place. Nice that you were there when it wasn't too crowded with tourists. Nice and clean too. 80 pounds is about $95 U.S. dollars. Not bad. Amazing how they could build something so magnificent way back then. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much -- this is absolutely invaluable to those of us who admire the medieval beauty of such a place, but can no longer manage all the steps. Thanks for bringing us along on your trip to another age.
Thanks Samuel and Jesse for taking me along with you. I loved it. From the USA, I doubt I will ever travel there. I never knew of this place. France's history is very rich and a lot iz preserved. Be safe and btw Jesse's hair is gorgeous and shiny. ❤😂
Really? You can "feel how old"... "stuff" is? Can you Americans get any real info? Real names for real items? I don't hear you talking so general about your Civil war. KNOWING about people, traditions, items, building techniques, materials, melodies, recipes, clothes, defense procedures, symbols...soooo much to explore, yet you chose to stick with "real old" or "medieval" (1000...ish year timeframe- depending of an area). You don't get to appreciate what you don't know. Visit the place like this with American attitude and your experience won't be as near as profound as it should. Imagine if you stood on a place where they executed someone and you didn't know. Or "some old grave" actually contains bones of a saint that is believed to do something significant. Or if you looked behind great gate (like these two) and didn't know attackers were trapped there and there were special holes to pour burning oil on them. Or what was the exact historical and defensive difference between round and square tower? Or symbolism behind certain engravings or rosettas. "Ancient" (which this is not) won't get you far in understanding. It is a horrible, horrible, arrogant American thing refusing to UNDERSTAND anything but them. ugh... but if you don't know how to understand others, than this is sad. Not arrogant and disgusting but sad.
My husband and I were there just before you in October 2022. We had a room Way up 164 steps, also. We loved everything about Mont St. Michel. Seeing St. Pierre again ( the lower church ) was very emotional. The reason why some of the statues faces are damaged is from either the the 100 years War or French Revolution or the Nazis. The French hid everything they could from the Nazis. Even though the objects were removed (and bombed) MontSt.Michel is still a wonderful Holy place. Thanks for your excellent videography !
the one hundred years war wasn't a war between England and France it was a war between two aristocratic housholds and two kings who thought they had hereditary rights on the french throne. In fact the kings of England at the time were of french descent and spoke french.
Magical fairytale castle. Spectacular views. The causeway passable ever by vehicle? Well impressed with the place. Every bit of the little island was gorgeous. Thank you once again, for taking us with you on your travels. The nearest I will get to seeing these places! 💜🤗💙🥰

Awesome! Mont Saint Michel has been one of my favorite castles since I was a child. Its size, its splendor, the tidal bridge, everything about it seems like something from some high fantasy story, and yet its real.
My seventh grade French teacher had a poster of Mont Saint Michel in the classroom. I was amazed that such a place existed. And thanks to you both, I finely got a tour of what it's like! I could spend days in there...with my sketch book! Would you ever go back in the summer? Thanks for the great video!
I’ve always wanted to see this place. In the USA we just don’t have this. My mother has been to this place and she never stopped telling me how phenomenal it is. Thank you for sharing. You guys seem like fun. Respect.
Are you an American? We don’t have castles because our country is literally 1000 years younger than this place. And we only had one civil war so there’s not been much need for defensive buildings. I’m from Wisconsin so trust when I say some parts of America are freezing half the year!

The most beautiful thing in this castle is the vibe between the two of you. Truly loving. Keep the fire burning. ox
Hah! I thought those were mason's marks
This is an excellent vid. As an historian I super approve
Got engaged there in '97 while backpacking across Europe. We explored the place with the same sense of awe you guys did. Loved it. We even visited the same time of year. Had the run of the place. Good to see it hasn't changed-except no LED Christmas lights then.
My husband and daughter and I just visited in November! It was magical! One of the best experiences of my life!
@Beaudile wow, you must be angry. I hope someone gives you a hug today.
@Beaudile
Even with the stairs, I'll bet it was an amazing experience. 🙂
I’m in awe of the sheer scale and detail of that place. Absolutely gorgeous!!!
❤😊
As someone from Ohio in the United States , this is absolutely stunning and I now know where I need to be . Barricade me in their with God, my family and a few friends and I’ll be set. Leave the world and their corrupt, evil, negative mindset to the mainlands . I could stay there for the rest of my days ❤ it is so breathtaking beautiful there. Thank you for sharing
The Old World civilization is beyond impressive. Thank you very much for showing all this! It is appreciated.
I went here for dinner one evening yrs ago & had a walk around the village earlier it is truly magical. I pray I will get the opportunity to return one day. ❤️🐨🇦🇺🙏🏼
This mont is so beautiful, looks like a God's paint, love from Brazil. VIVA CRISTO REI.
Just beautiful. My mother's favorite church in Europe. I didn't know the place was so massive in size.
look for the "Sainte Chapelle" in Paris
those fireplaces were amazing the Castle is amazing it looks like it came out of a Fairy Tale
Mont Saint Michel is an amazing place, I visited when I was a child with my parents and even 40 years ago it was already a marvel to visit.
It sure is 😍 Hope it remains this way for many years to come ❤
So true. I've been there for a side trip during winter it was soo magical and the fallen of snow just started .. planned to go back there and stay for days. they said sunrise is so enchanting as well
I went about 20-25 years ago, and can't imagine how much it's changed in 40 years.
IHAVE BEEN. and Deauville
What a wonderful place. Nice that you were there when it wasn't too crowded with tourists. Nice and clean too. 80 pounds is about $95 U.S. dollars. Not bad. Amazing how they could build something so magnificent way back then. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Karen ❤️ Its mind blowing to think of the work involved in this place 🤯😍 Hope it remains well maintained for years to come! Thank you for watching ❤
I love the places you guys show us, for someone who doesn't get the opportunity to travel these days makes it all the more enjoyable! Thank you so much x

As soon as you walked through the gate, you could immediately feel how ancient this place is. Definitely on my bucket list. 🏰 ❤

@@educationforthedumb832 That is not true
the one hundred years war wasn't a war between England and France it was a war between two aristocratic housholds and two kings who thought they had hereditary rights on the french throne. In fact the kings of England at the time were of french descent and spoke french.
Amazing place. Thank you so much. The ancient walled city of Carcassonne in southwestern France is also a mind blowing place.
I have long been intrigued by Mont Saint Michel and it history. Thank you for taking me there.
Magical fairytale castle. Spectacular views. The causeway passable ever by vehicle? Well impressed with the place. Every bit of the little island was gorgeous. Thank you once again, for taking us with you on your travels. The nearest I will get to seeing these places! 💜🤗💙🥰
Glad you enjoyed it Nanny 🥰🥰 Yes and a tram runs from the car park! Its only a few times a year its completely cut off I read. So good to have you along!!! Sending both our love ❤❤❤
Awesome! Mont Saint Michel has been one of my favorite castles since I was a child. Its size, its splendor, the tidal bridge, everything about it seems like something from some high fantasy story, and yet its real.
Well, it’s technically not a castle lol it’s a fortified village with an abbey. I’ve been there twice and it’s really beautiful.
My seventh grade French teacher had a poster of Mont Saint Michel in the classroom. I was amazed that such a place existed. And thanks to you both, I finely got a tour of what it's like! I could spend days in there...with my sketch book! Would you ever go back in the summer? Thanks for the great video!
Still, it makes you wonder where do they evacuate the feces.
Thank you, what beautiful people and a beautiful place. I could feel how you were transformed by this place!
I’ve always wanted to see this place. In the USA we just don’t have this. My mother has been to this place and she never stopped telling me how phenomenal it is. Thank you for sharing. You guys seem like fun. Respect.
Yeah im in New York the US doesnt have much incredible places like Europe
@@mermaidlu5125 maybe because the US isnt as old as Europe, there was no need for Castles in the US
Are you an American? We don’t have castles because our country is literally 1000 years younger than this place. And we only had one civil war so there’s not been much need for defensive buildings. I’m from Wisconsin so trust when I say some parts of America are freezing half the year!

Hi Sam&Jess, we have another place you must visit. It's Santiago de Compostela in Portugal.
And if you enter the cathedral where so many pilgrims went, and touch the marble pilar, you can see all the thousands of fingertip prints on it, from people who were there too.
