When I had my first teaching in private school as a Guidance Counselor, I was forced to also teach Music and Grammar. Though my background is in Psychology but I have a knowledge about those things but not enough to really fully grasp the subjects given to me since it’s not my field. The problem here is that the Philippines or shall we say the government should allocate more budget to hire teachers and assigned them in their own fields. In short, there is a scarcity of the budgets allocated for each school to cater the needs of the teachers and students.
I am a psych graduate who want to further pursue for MAGC so I could take for RGC exam. Sad but the career progression for RGC in the Philippines is leaning towards negative side. You need to have a Masters to take the exam but your entry salary is only SG 11. I do believe that legislating a better career progression for RPm, RGC, RPsy and fast tracking it into law would, in one way or another, solve these cases of bullying in PH, which is so detrimental for studentry's mental and over-all well-being, and I have had experience it first hand on the field how worst it is.
Even during the start of the pandemic when modules were said to be their primary reference. Modules for 1st and 2nd were received during the 3rd quarter or even during the 4th quarter. They procure references late. This makes the teachers to produce (sometimes using their own money) alternative resources to be distributed to learners. They also need to remove spiral progression. Some of my collegues in Science were Biology major. But because of this spiral progression, they are forced to teach Physics (which most of them are having a hard time).
I don't get why you dont see ABSENTEEISM as the problem. There are lots and lots of students you are lazy and often do not go to school just to play outside or sleep late because of gadgets. Worse, the parents or guardians fail to discipline those students. No matter how good the literary and math programs that you create, WHEN the STUDENTS are not attending school then those programs are just waste. I'm the dorp coordinator of our school and I agree with you completely..attendance and active participation of students are really challenging..Deped should clarify it's no learner left behind policy . Because there is a misplacement of teachers who teach subjects. For example, a Filipino major applicant who finally gets hired by DepEd will be asked "is it okay if you will teach Math for the meantime?" So instead of losing his prized item in DepEd, he will have no other choice but to accept teaching Math despite his different major. And that's a complete misalignment.
