The first time I saw this, I came home from the library at midnight and heard the TV on in my parent's bedroom and went to say goodnight. Mom was asleep and dad was watching this. We had to put pillows over our faces as we were both screaming with laughter. Absolutely the best.
This is another highly-amusing,well-choreographed,and truly-alluring number in one of Danny Kaye's all-time most favorite, memorable, and funniest classic movies,The Court Jester. In this particular beautiful scene"The Initiation of Knighthood" Giacomo (Danny Kaye) together with a bunch of medieval knights had splendidly and hilariously performed their fast-paced marching in unison and high spirits. One can never get tired of his one-of-a-kind antics.Hear ye! King of all the jesters DANNY KAYE.
First time I saw this movie, during this scene my mom and I were laughing so hard we were in stitches. And then his pants start falling down and reminds me of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.
I remember renting this at blockbuster one time when they had vhs tapes. And I vaguely remember clutching my stomach and having trouble breathing when I saw this scene I was laughing so hard😂😂😂😂😄😄😄😄
The quality between YT and this being an older movie makes it hard for me to tell, but I swear, in the part where the knights are marching in two intersecting lines, it looks like some of the actors are trying not to smile, and I don’t blame them.
paleface171 Near the 2:00 minute mark the guy to Danny Kaye's right is actually grinning !! Not only are they co-ordinated, but the casting director obviously was looking for guys who could keep a straight face (poker face) while performing in this organized extended shuffling routine .... Personally, I would have flunked on both criteria - - lack of such coordination, plus falling over with laughter while trying to do the maneuvers :-)
Hi, I´m a German and since my early childhood I have known this legendary scene only in english, although the rest of the movie (apart from Danny Kaye singing) was dubbed. I couldn´t imagine hearing it in German, as in fact the incomprehensibility (for us children then) of the fast speaking only increased the hilarity :D! PS: Nice to see another Gurney-ite here ;-)
This has to be one of the FUNNIEST scenes ever in the history of motion pictures !!
This is my all time favorite!
This scene is pure comedy genius. I can see how it might have influenced Monty Python and/or Mel Brooks years later.
Ich habe mir die DVD gekauft. Kindheitserinnerung

What makes this even funnier is when you see how slow and dignified the ceremony is really supposed to be!
Really???
Good, that u told us...
I had not laughed in a long time the way I laughed while watching this scene. I love Danny Kaye so much!
The most funniest scene in a movie ever, I can't stop laughing. Seen it so many times. The whole movie is a treasure. Thank you mister Kaye.
This is the funniest scene ever, Danny Kaye became his movies and he was a legend. (Rip Danny).
Danny Kaye was such a funny man! Hilarious! Love this movie!

When he's weaving in and out among them, you can see a couple of them bump into each other, which actually makes it a little funnier.
One of my most favourite scenes. So damn funny. 'YAY, VERILY YAY!!!! 😂

“...Yay?”
The vessel with pestle has the brew that is true.

Danny's pants are falling down. A friend introduced me to this movie & it's one of her favorites. I liked it so i got it for my b-day last yr.
Hammertime.
What a wonderful movie.
How do the actors keep a straight face when this scene was being filmed... it’s soooo
funny 😂🤣...
Our beloved Danny Kaye, the Jim Carrey of his time.
Don't insult Danny Kaye by comparing him to Carrey!
Ha! Look at the trousers. It's Hammer time.
I saw this scene this morning, thought it was hilarious how the King ordered for the ceremony to be sped up
I remember renting this at blockbuster one time when they had vhs tapes. And I vaguely remember clutching my stomach and having trouble breathing when I saw this scene I was laughing so hard😂😂😂😂😄😄😄😄

When my mum was watching a knighting scene in a movie she started to do the chant from this scene 😂
My Favorite by far from the entire movie
One of the rare occasions when
I saw my father laughing tears .

diese scene ist so genial !!!!
Look at the 80 second mark. Danny Kaye was the first to go ghetto in wearing his pants wayyy below the waist.
This scene is hilarious! 😂 How many takes do you think it took to do this?
Hahhaaaaa...seine Hosenstyl trägt man heute!!!!!!! hahhaaaaaaaaaa....thank you Danny for greath laughn.
How could those "soldiers" keep straight faces?
solem concentration!
I love this part when the knights and Danny kaye step in unison especially the way they step together
hard to imagine that the jester,s pants at 01.47 are now supposedly "in fashion" !!??
MC Hammer :-)
"Can't touch this...break it down!"
That look when he realizes what he's walked into could have given birth the "It was at this moment" meme...
GRANDIOS ❤
This is so brilliant!
The soldiers were The Jackson Michigan Zouave Drill Team. There's a YT video of them doing their routine on The Ed Sullivan Show.
LovE iT!
cada vez que lo veo me rio mejor
This is hilarious!!!
l'm shocked at how co ordinated these guys were. 2:12 Hats off to them all. I can only imagine how many times they had to do that.

djjim01 He can't help but grin with Danny Kaye just next to him being, well, Danny Kaye.
djjim01 they used the loyal legion of zouaves ...who ever they were.............to play the the men in this scene....
Oh God, this is so funny, I cry every time with laughter
Now I know where MC Hammer got the idea for his pants
Had to see this after the coronation lol.
son escenas magníficas de una película hecha a la medida, ojalá la vuelvan a dar o se pueda encontrar completa por internet.
Someone mentioned that this where MC Hammer got his dance moves and style of pants from. LOL I'm not sure about that but it could very well be true.
es ist wohl einer der witzigsten Filme überhaupt
look closely at the guard at 1:59 he has a smile on his face while looking a Danny :)
He does. 😂
The best! 😂
I love this part in the court jester the way the knights and Danny kaye unionsen

simply epic
Jester day 😀
TAPS!
The court jester's promotion to knighthood is a comic illustration of Medieval style "affirmative action".
the soldiers resemble to be in silent drill.
🍸🍸🍸🍸Grub
this ain't a knighting ceremony its a freak show robot march . Not that it's a bad thing.
I'm so incredibly disappointed this scene is not dubbed in German.
