I like how the "Vulgar" member of the group is the one that uses contractions
Aye he's the 'bad boy' of the bunch, such a rebel :D But for a Smoke Jag that IS really rebellious.
His bloodname should be Siwa.
Galaxy Commander Cordera Perez does so as well. In his own Featurette... not sure if this was intentionally or a screwup.

Talk about 'rebellious '
@@WilliamSlayer bloody clanners 😂
And no one has beaten it out of him yet in a circle? They're Jags, not Bears or Wolves.
@@derekburge5294 doesn't matter which clan, none of them like it, Ranna frequently called Phelan out when he used contractions, other clanners sometimes used contractions in novels.
It's basically akin to using foul language.
@@derekburge5294 don’t forget you got Jade Falcons and uh....Novas too?
For those curious: Clanners don't have last names. They can recieve Bloodnames - it's considered an accolade of the highest order. But no - he's not related to the Kit Commander with the fabulous complexion. Probably. I mean, they likely share a ton of DNA, cuz of the eugenics.
Clanners are weird.
The Clans are so advanced with genetics that a guy can be the mother of a sibko and vice-versa, and that a sibko between to related warriors won't show any of the negative genetic effects of inbreeding. Not even the Magistracy of Canopus and the Word of Blake can come close to Clan genetic engineering.
Clanner here (Wolf, no less), the "Liam Ismiril" quote at the very beginning is not the same Liam in the video, but the first saKhan of Smoke Jaguar Liam Ismiril, which is why the Ismiril name carries much weight and significance. Fair to say Ibrahim almost certainly earned his Bloodname long ago, and the Liam in the video probably doesn't have a Bloodname yet, as those with Bloodnames are much higher up in Clan society.
Okay that's a nice little touch the 'You may want to watch your language' because the other chap used contractions when he said 'I'd' and haven't. He's a rebellious one that one as the Clanner's view speaking correctly as being THE thing to do. You would never said 'You'd' or i'd' it would be 'I am' or You would' So this guy, especially by Smoke Jaguar standards is a real rebel for speaking incorrectly. I'd be amazed if he wasn't on the reciving end of regular beatings to 'correct' this. Which has probably just pushed him into doing it more. Which could just end out with a Trial of Grievance being declared about it.
Glad people are finally able to see those contractions are intentional to the character so it isn't just "OMG, contractions" every video. lol
@@yrrot7and it’s cool that the actor touches on that too a little bit because that’s something I was kind of worried about
@@yrrot7 It makes perfect sense when you think about the character, yes, its odd that a Jaguar is being so flagrant about this, seeing as the Jags were up there with the Falcons for being the most Clan of Clans, and most Clanners view contractions as rude and disrespectful and are rarely done unless, its to prove a point. And here, Liam's proving a point, he's showing a startling amount of independence and rebellion for a Smoke Jaguar Trueborn. I'd maybe expect a Diamond Shark to be like this, but even then, it would be rare. So he's a very rare one within the Jags to be like this. And I think that's great as it adds to his character, and adds to the Star as a whole.
@@yrrot7 My question is why doesn't he look like his face made out with sandblaster, I'd at least tolerate it if it showed on his design that he did take some flak that some casual recovery in the medbay won't completely cover it up.
Love the deliberate awkward contractions. Well done
I am so proud of all of the Battletech fans noticing the contractions. Desgra freebirths, desgra freebirths everywhere!
CONTRACTION!
Hey! He's on R'nR! Don't expect him to change!
@@MW5Clans😂
@@MW5Clansguys, I love how you approach this, the attention to detail. This is shaping up to be Andor level of storytelling. Please, don't screw this up by pandering to a certain demographic.
@@kamatablet1919Andor is exactly what I've been comparing these snippets to. I'm hyped.
Maybe one of these pilots gets out of this game alive. i got a feeling Tukkayid is gonna be the climax, and well as an asshole once said, "Smoked Jaguar indeed".
Battle for Luthien according to Russ
Thats fair enough, luthein mskes more sense this galaxy is likely the one featured in hohiro kurita's story along side his yakuza assistant who is an interesting story on his own. The Yakuza organization working with the prince if the draconis combine is the enemy that cordera perez ultimately decided to wipe out. Understandably, he made the mistake of authorizing off duty soldiers to patron the occupied areas. That had consequences for many of them that clan doctorine just does not tolerate, crusader, or warden. It seems the star will probably experience this first hand.
@@fherot8200
@@fherot8200I think it's unlikely. I just didn't show all the cards. Judging by the description, we will have a full invasion during Operation Revival. And earlier it was said about 5 large rollers, and these are 5 operations of the 362nd assault cluster. There are also arts of the Tukayyid swamps, where the Beta Galaxy fought.
Sarna says: Ezra led a Trinary within the Forty-eighth Battle Cluster during the Battle of Huntress in 3060.
they could make an entire DLC out of Tukkayid.... "the longest day" sort of fair, that
It took me a moment to realize Liam was using contractions! Even when he emphasized it to be a troll.
Meet The Star:
The Rookie
Do not call him a freeborn peasant. (he will cry)
He should have beaten the snot out of him in the circle of equals long ago.
People immediately noted the use of contractions in an earlier trailer, and there was some hand wringing... I had a feeling it was a deliberate writing decision, saying something about his character. Seems that's exactly what they were going for. I like it
It's 100% intentional. Liam is the rebellious character who isn't as indoctrinated as the rest of his sibko, and using contractions is akin to cursing in Clan Culture, seen as super informal and disrespectful, *especially* among Smoke Jaguar who particularly despise these kinds of un-clanlike acts.
@@allthenamesiwantedweretaken Exactly. Which makes a lot more sense than the portrayal of clanners as 100% conformist, how they've been shown until now. Teenagers rebel, adults rebel, outliers exist, it happens... I think it makes Clan society feel more real
So this guy lashes out and fights attempts at indoctrination the only way he can (without losing everything); by talking like a freebirth to piss everyone off
So far i like all the characters they have introduced
“Liam Ismaril” 👀
That said, I hope we as the player get the option to fight for a Bloodname.
Edit: yeah I found out from people in the comments that Liam Ismaril is a Bloodnamed warrior in the past, likely the namesake for the one in the game.
I believe they already said the campaign will involve fighting to earn your bloodname. Probably early game, post tutorial
@@ELITESrBAMOFOS945 it’s not due to any issue with what you’re saying, but by chance do you remember off the top of your head where they said that? Asking so I can show my dad (who’s just currently cautious about the game) 😁
@@ELITESrBAMOFOS945 Nope, the player probably hasn't done anything to earn the nomination. During the Year of Peace, between Wave 4 and 5, is probably the best time for it.
@@kdbx2sec I also found out via my dad that that character name is actually a pre-existing character from earlier in the timeline, which does make sense.
Yeah, that's a quote from a different character. Liam Ismiril was the founding saKhan of Clan Smoke Jaguar, and the founder of the Ismiril bloodhouse. He's also the one who started Clan Smoke Jaguar's feud with Clan Nova Cat, which went on for the clan's entire history and only ended when the Jaguars we annihilated in 3060.
Also, we already know that all five mechwarriors in the player's lance are descended from the Liam Ismiril in the quote. They're all from the same sibko, so they have the same genetics. Kit Commander Ibrahim Ismiril also refers to them as a being a batch from his bloodhouse, which means they will all be able to trace their "matrilinear" heritage back to this founding Clan warrior. That also means Jayden will end up fighting for the Ismiril bloodname when they do get to have their Trial of Bloodright, which was already stated as one of his goals in his character spotlight.
He's the Clan equivalent of showing up to inner sphere mech training wearing underpants over torn jeans, sunglasses, and smoking a joint.
"I'd rather"
"what you're"
Contractions eh? The 'watch your language' feels like he's swearing rather than using contractions. XD
Also, the contractions use reminds me of Horse (aka Tyle).
Using contractions in Clan society is akin to swearing, yes.
They are smoke jaguar, so contractions are actually pretty vulgar.
If the SJs ever hear the URANUS joke, will they actually try and destroy Uranus, I wonder. 🤔
Peters seems better at explaining what his character is about than the others. xD
"We were made for this." Literally.
Jesus, peak chad-face for the guy.
Really looking forward to this.
The sensitive Clan warrior? I hope we get some Clan SJ stereotypes to balance him out.
Every batch has its bad apple ^_^
@@larslaufer301 They're Vat grown warriors, they all should be rage psychos, especially if they're SJs. Also considering lore and where the get their genetics and could have many gene donars and the founder, shouldn't at least one of them be a on the darker skin side??

Looks like a fun guy. Love to meet him in the game.
I ca't wait to get a good Mechwarrior game this time around. Maybe finally the first good MW game since MWLL. The character design seems to be pretty cool so far!
The Inner Sphere can kill me but it can't make me care.
3:00 We're? Don't? As a reminder, the Clanners talk funny for reasons... or is he *Intentionally* using contractions? N/M It's not a fluke. It's also nice to see something not at The Office level arrogance. I still want all the roads to led to Trent Smoke Jaguar but I Will Take this, regardless...
You guys are doing a great job rolling this out.
He looks like the Clanner version of Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Jaguar? Smoked Ice?
Hype!!! Looks so good!!
The ironic thing about the Clan's rules towards contractions in language AND the fact that they use "neg" and "aff" is hilarious. They want to keep the language "pure" but use brevity doctrine in normal speech instead of saying affirmative and negative. lol
Some story depth is nice, but I'll be much more impressed with great gameplay than story and characters. Gameplay is what truly counts.
I'm getting more excited for this game the more I see of it. I think this might end up being something pretty special.
STAVAG FREEBIRTH, YOU DARE DENY MY BATCHALL!?!!!!!!!
Language, Liam! You use contractions like a Freebirth! 'I've"... No wonder the Jaguars got wiped out...
i don't know why but for some reason i am getting a Porco Galliard vibe from Liam (if Attack on Titan rings a bell to anyone)
even though they are totally different characters ...
Im calling it now, the Rookie or the protagonist are the only one/ones making it outta there alive
i say rookie saves rest of the star with protag and sis getting out
Give me all the clanner goodness. Love all this much more than inner sphere
Nice, keep up the work, still lots of animation jitter from the mocap that still needs smoothing but it's getting a lot better. It'll be important to really get those facial features right to convey emotion and not just show the botox face lol
I am so excited for this game
@@HybriddicAirsoft fk yea man!!!
so it's confirmed that Liam, and presumably the player character, would get a bloodname
The Ismiril bloodname comes from the first sakhan of Smoke Jaguar, who was also named Liam Ismiril.
Its a quote from Clan Smoke Jaguar's first saKhan. Referencing Franklin Osis, first Khan of CSJ and the first ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky after forming the Clan system.
@abzlore Not quite - right now you're confusing young Liam here with the Liam in that quote, which refers to Franklin Osis, the founder of CSJ some 250 years or so prior to the game's story. The original Liam Ismiril was a contemporary of Franklin Osis.
Wonder if he's the resident freeborn
They are all trueborn. He only talks like a freebirth because he knows it annoys people.
This guy will be piloting the worst mech in my lance.
Oooooh the clanners don't like individuality. The Jaguars least of all.
I am getting hyped.
I need this right meow.
Thank you.

I dont mind the character designs at all, in fact i quite like them, but why does everyone look like Handsome Squidward?
Clan MechWarriors are bred using the genetic material of bloodnamed warriors. Essentially, all the sibkin are brothers and sisters because they come from the same genetic material of their "parents". The Clans stopped having babies the normal way in order to create superior soldiers and weed out undesirable traits.
@@JeremyLambright The rest of the clan castes still reproduce the traditional way. Only the warriors use the iron wombs.
@JDLambright so end result is everyone looks like supermodels and / or badasses out the gate?
@@xXManhattanProjectXx No. The design of the characters was made by the game developers. However, look at any family with many children. They will all have very similar features, although they will all be unique individuals with their own personalities. That is essentially what all sibling companies (sibkos) are in the Clans.
@@xXManhattanProjectXx Something like that. Charisma is correlated with command ability, and all things being equal, people would rather listen to a good-looking person than an ugly one. So the selection process results in charismatic assholes.

"Don't expect me to change when we're on RnR..." Deliberate contractions?
Yeah, and he even emphasizes the “we’re.” He maybe could get away with that around his sibko, but that won’t fly when he’s talking to other Clanners.
Also the haven't in the first scene is accompanied by a deliberate smirk

During a chaotic battle, Liam’s BattleMech is critically damaged. Jaydan, rushes in to cover his retreat. Their eyes meet through the cockpit glass-a fleeting connection amidst the chaos. Jaydan’s mech takes a hit, and Liam risks everything to protect him. They survive, and their paths are forever intertwined.
Back at the base, Liam and Jaydan cross paths again. They meet secretly in the hangar, stealing moments between repairs and missions. Their conversations shift from battle tactics to personal dreams, revealing vulnerabilities neither expected. One night, after a grueling mission, they sit atop a Mech chassis, gazing at the stars. Jaydan confesses his fear of losing his family’s legacy, while Liam admits he fights not just for honor but for a future where love transcends. Their fingers brush, and they share a stolen kiss-an act forbidden by their loyalties.
As the war intensifies, Liam and Jaydan face impossible choices. A high-ranking officer, suspects their relationship. Liam’s loyalty wavers when he learns of a secret Clan weapon that could end the war. He must choose: duty or love. Jaydan discovers Liam’s dilemma and confronts him. Their love becomes a beacon of hope in a war-torn universe.
On the eve of the decisive battle, Liam and Jaydan stand side by side. Their Mechs move in sync, weaving through enemy fire. Amidst explosions and chaos, they share a desperate kiss-a promise of survival or farewell. As the dust settles, they find themselves victorious but wounded. Liam’s Mech is irreparable, and Jaydan’s mech has an unexpected full reactor shutdown.
In a quiet corner of the base, Liam and Jaydan hold hands. They’ve survived the war, and found love. They dream of a future where Clans and Inner Sphere unite. Perhaps one day, they’ll retire to a distant planet, build a home, and watch the stars together-the same stars that witnessed their stolen sparks of love.

Why do some hate the clans?
The crew of this star and kip commander are very normal people.
Because the clans are a twisted distortion of human society, acknowledging our darkest impulses and subverting them to a greater cause. And while the main characters seem 'normal', their actions are very often anything but, even more so for the Smoke Jaguars.
Dont forget about IS apologists 😂

there are however rumors of PGI planning a pure PvP game in the future ... who know's could be more like battlefield?
Their faces look so feminine 🧐
Ah, I see you've never read about Clan Culture before.
...... They know nothing about clans. They act like they just came from Sibko to start basic training.
I still don't understand why we have to play as the moron clan. Couldn't be any of the competent clans like Wolf or Ghost Bear
To me those are the default "protagonist" clans (and way too many authors pet factions), which is always funny to even say considering how the clans work. Personally I'd much rather play Jade Falcon or even Smoke Jaguar any day of the week.
Because We already Played as One (MW2 as Wolf and JF and Ghost Bear Legacy as GB). SJ is the only Invading Clan We haven't Play
The Smoke Jaguars, along with the Jade Falcons, are the most aggressive of the Crusader Clans during the invasion. It would make sense from a gameplay perspective to show the Clan invasion through Smoke Jaguar's MechWarriors.
CSJ also means we get to take part in some major events of the Invasion, such as the Turtle Bay massacre and the Battle of Luthien
I look at the Clans as a bunch of manufactured people dogmatically following their programming.
If this game wants me to think about them as actual people with depth that is going to be a hard sell.
Plenty of real life examples of people dogmatically following their programming - I mean, there's the NPC meme!
But here we actually see sparks of cognition and pushback against what the clan leaders want - they know they've been programmed, but they feel, they know, it's still the right thing to do - to restore the Star League and punish the Houses.
Whoever wrote the script, and/or likely the plot for the entire story - clearly has no background whatsoever in social values based on character or honor. Likewise, little military lifestyle experience if any. They read some of the novels and know a few details but this is not inspiring me to believe this will be a Clan story. Especially not a Smoke Jaguar story. Will this game allow any free world experience? I wager not. Probably fully locked down to campaign and mp. Why do I feel like they are screwing the pooch on the story / world? Gameplay looks fair....and we all know the mod community will make it right before long.
Liam is starting to sound like a guy I’d actually like. And that’s rare for me to say when it comes to Clanners; especially the Smoke Jags.

@@jasonliang2932 Is it? I mean it's the Clanners that break the molds that often do the best or are the most interesting to read about. @@jasonliang2932 I don't know, they're clanners but they aren't robots. I don't think it stretches believability to have one like this.
@@GreyMasker Liam would have turned into human bean juice in a Circle of Equals long before this. You can write an edgy clanner but casual use of contractions isn't the way.
I think the research is lacking. Contractions, banter, the unserious attitude to the crusade, how the members of the star call each other out so easily with no circle of equals...this is weak.
I'm becoming less and less interested in this game as we see more of it...I don't care for the personal mini-dramas of the lancemates...so far those characters are both boring and bland in terms of 3d character design and story. Jayden is the Clan cardboard cut-out of commander mason in MW5...Liam whose biological father is probably 'kit commander' Ismiril (not a known lore rank btw like Star Colonel which is directly below Galaxy Commander)...is still trying to prove himself or find himself just before he gets shipped off to front lines...this seem a bit late no? 'Galaxy Commander' Cordera Perez is a wannabe bad guy...who does bad things just to prove he is a bad and to feed his ego...why on earth would Clan Smoke Jaguar ever promote him to the rank of Galaxy Commander is beyond me...major plot hole there. I'll end this with a final thought: If this is the sort of cut scene 'character development' that tries to tell a 'personal story' and will follow the player around like a zombie and be the focus after every mission...I'm not interested in this game, period. Instead the focus should be on proper battle planning, briefing/debriefing, macro scale lore events...strategy....intelligence gathering...and characters who are actually a bit enthusiastic to be there...all I see in the characters is a mix of boredom, apprehension, and conflicted emotion...not a great start to the invasion....I mean hey...even the arbiter from Halo 2 had more drive and passion when he knew full well that he was on a suicide mission. Thumbs down for now until I see this game shape up.
Agree with you on most of these points. PGI failed to capture the actual behavior of Clanners, and instead turned it into some teenage soap opera drama. If PGI haf actually read an actual BT Clan novel, then they would realize the Clan dialogue would be much more militaristic based, and heavily focused on one's own achievements in battle. Clanner's are more alien like than human.
The more I see of these characters the more I lose faith in Mech 5 Clans. These characters are all beta soy weaklings who talk like wussy losers. Clanners should be tough and intense like 1980s/1990s WWF wrestlers with the fighting abilities of Mad Max, Snake Plisskan, and Conan
Not every clanner is a hardass like Joanna of the Jade Falcons. And even she had her soft moments, especially when it came to Diana Pryde.
Portraying them like the old goofy cartoon would almost certainly have been a mistake from a marketing standpoint.
they all look like himbo male models - that is some bad dialog writing also, very cliche
Spending money and time on developing a story and voice acting is a wasting both money and time. Most people skip through all this stuff to just play so you're developing content only a few people will spend time to watch and the gameplay suffers for it. Gameplay is what matters, not a story
Look, at least they're trying. The last time Mechwarrior had any sense of a story was 4. PGI killed the superior MW5 concept to make the abomination that is MWO, and put out MW5 with so little in it that Mechwarrior 1 from *1989* feels more complete than it does. It's been 20+ years since we had a story-based Mechwarrior. If you just want to shoot stuff, there are plenty of options.
Speak for yourself instead of "most people," lol
Some of us love BattleTech lore just as much as we love playing the games. I'm thankful they are adding a cinematic campaign.
As for skipping through this stuff, I'm not in the category of 'most people' if it is a good story. In fact, I've been waiting for a long time for good story telling in a Mechwarrior game, and this looks very promising. Gameplay is as important, sure, and PGI said that more about gameplay will be revealed closer to the release.
