Great video Brian and Wifey / Camera Crew. This was my newest favorite airplane. Had 258 recorded flights on it. Until yesterday when it hit a light pole. Anybody with any interest in this airplane should just get one. You won't regret it. Use the 850mah.
I always enjoy your videos rc flying has been a passion of mine for 10+ years and I am always looking to get more people involved and the first thing I do is point them in your direction keep up the great work and I thank you for all the hard work you and your family put into this thank you again
My newest favorite airplane. Because it fly's so slow and controlled, I'm able to attempt, and learn new maneuvers that I wouldn't risk on faster airplanes. Not as durable as Twisted Hobbies EPP Foamies, but this one comes with AS3X and SAFE. And after it's all said and done, It's actually less expensive. I have 152 flights on mine right now, and still loving it. Great video Brian. Thumbs up to Wifey's Recording capabilities, which makes this all possible. OH. And I did put Yellow Electric tape on my wing tips for better orientation.
152 flights!!! That's awesome! Thanks and great idea with the wingtips! Some paints can add up a LOT of weight quick, if you'd ever get the idea to do that, fyi.
Your Green Screen is a result of the new 11-3-22, 3.07.14 update which was flawed and was corrected two days later with 3.01.17 which also is flawed. I spoke with Spektrum and they are working on a way to bypass the green, red or yellow WARNING screens. The problem is in several applications you can not clear the warning screens.
Great video as always. Ordered my Eratix. Bryan this is your sign that it’s time for you to start 3d flying. Just work on slow harrier flying and hovering, you’ll master it quickly!
What you say about flight simulators is true for me. My most impressive crash happened after long sessions of simulation and a lack of true practice. It's like I paid less attention or something... Great flying, thank you again, you're doing a great job
Just picked up one today for indoor flying in the North Dakota winters. Decided to check out the local hobby shop while I was in Bismarck today. I was thinking about getting a night vapor but it wasn't even a question after I saw it.
So, getting back into the hobby last year, the first video of yours I saw was the Timber Twin. I'd never flown a twin and you made it look fun AND you made getting into electrics (and radio setup) look easy enough so I bought one. Then you were so enthusiastic about the Piper Cherokee that I bought one. I never had a plane with flaps or a radio that was capable (bought the NX 8). Then came the E-flight Extra 300. This Eratix is now one of my favorite planes. Great value at $220, especially with the receiver and servos installed, it couldn't be easier to assemble and get in the air. Easy to transport and flies as well as anything else I've flown. It can be a little fragile when crashed, but you can prevent that. (Don't) 😁 By the way, I enjoy watching you fly probably more than Jase Dussia. At least I can follow what you do. Plus you explain what you're doing. I've seen your power lines come down, your pond is getting dug and I wish you and your family all the best. No need to respond. I know you're busy.
Oh man!! I love flying those planes! I just rebuilt mine after the transmitter lost connection causing the plane to nose dive. They are great planes! Great video!
Ordered my Eratix too! I am nowhere near being a decent pilot but this plane looks like it can take a beating and I have a host of other planes for training me. This plane looks nice for a park flyer and more! Can't wait to get it.
Good luck! Flat Foam planes are a different breed, and hope you enjoy it. Don't be afraid to use a TON of expo and low rates to help tame the plane while you're learning.
Love this plane, but watch the baseline elevator setting at maiden. I barely got mine off the ground after carefully aligning the elevator with the horizontal stab at setup. Had to add about 45 clicks of up elevator to begin flying reasonably level. After that, things got much more fun.
Great review and flying. Foamies are one of the best planes to practice 3d with. I like epp foamies better as they are easier to repair. These depron ones just explode. I may have to try one. Like the looks and setup.
Although I understand you're a fixed wing guy, the helicopter events are a blast. MAD skills and epic flying with even more epic crashes. I WISH the plane and FPV events were half as fun. I just attended a helicopter event in North Carolina where they had light towers set up to fly at night - that event was nothing short of EPIC! If you've never been to RCHO - you don't know! The people are great, every age group nothing but a great time from 9am till well after midnight!
Looks like it cracked the front of the fuselage after your bout with the poll in the gym... Did it crack and did u put glue on it before you did the outside flight?
3d foamies are the best for practicing maneuvers. This bird looks sweet. I personally fly the Revolto. Put some led's on this baby for rippin the night skies. I think night flying is easier for practicing as there is not much background for visual disturbance. Orient the lights so up and down is obvious. Love the videos Brian and Megan! Did I spell her name correctly?
Thanks, and YES, you got Megan right (loads of spellings, but you got it right)/ As for night flying, we loved doing that with our previous Flat Foam planes, and it was a blast!!!
You can setup up to 5 airplanes and 5 heli's I believe...but it's a CHORE!!! Get the manual and look into it before you even think about it...it's "doable" but you will hate life while using this feature ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Turns out it sucks and it is nearly impossible to even make another profile on. So I ended up having 2 planes on the same profile and that is so hard to handle because it is hard to even know if your model has calibrated properly and often have to redo trims every single flight. I'm getting the NX8 ASAP
I did it all wrong I started flying and instantly learned low bush flying and then jumped into 3d.....glad I did but it was so wrong to do...lot of ”learning experienceS" lol but I love it
Where did you end up with the CG? The manual is confusing because it counts the very outside as the leading edge and it seems like it’s really too far back. It puts the CG point just in front of the rear wing mounts.
This is a foam board material, but I can't say exactly, since I don't have time to build these. They are all over the world wide web, but they're a few hour build, and some fun too, but just not for me ;)
Why does it look like there's a BIG horizontal and vertical stress crack in the nose section aft of the engine mount. It looks like white foam showing through the red cover ??????
If you saw it, might have been from me dropping it. I think I did drop this one, or some such thing, but it's been too long to say for certain. Sometimes I'll catch them on the doorway, like what I did today - DANG IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - and broke a vertical stab on my Boeing 737 Max, or it gets knocked off the counter by a cat, which the cat just knocked Micro Draco off the counter last night - Only lost one step, and glued right back it, it was almost as miraculous as my cat surviving my furry ;)
Thanks for your ultra quick reply, Brian! I wasn't bitchin or making fun by any means. My concern was that perhaps that crack in the airframe was from normal flight and the frame couldn't take the stress. So more of a product quality concern / question. You rock always, your channel and vids for our RC community are the best. keep up the great work, and Thankyou SO much! - Jeff
I believe you have to be able to setup via forward programming, but you can use the Rx and a basic Rx (no AS3X / SAFE) without forward programming. I also think you MIGHT be able to setup the Rx on a Forward Programming equipped Tx, then bind it to one that's not...but I haven't tried this.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks Brian. Think I may have to go for a dx8 gen 2. But until then I may try my father inlaws spektrum to see if it can do the programing and then I bind my orange tx. Can I just say thank you too for all the help over the last year. You've always responded to questions and have genuinely made my start on the hobby a very happy one. So much good advice on which 0lanes are user friendly. Thanks you.
Awesome! When you get ready to put LED's on this plane, just now seeing your comment (my apologies) from 10 months ago...so sorry! You can steal power from the BIND port, or from the servo wires, if you wish...both would already be current limited, thus you may or may not need a current limiting resistor.
Hey, just FYI, this plane doesn't use the smart battery tech as far as I know. I soldered on an xt30, the center pin for spectrum batteries is unused. Just subscribed btw! Thanks for the vids!
You can get "dumb" battery data too, with some of these SMART esc / SMART rx pairings. I think this one is capable wither way. The DATA lead is not necessarially needed, but can be used for per cell voltages on some of the SMART setups. Thanks for being here with us Jeff!
Hey Brian, great video as usual and in great detail :-) I was wondering if you could use this plane outside as a sort of training plane if you tune down the throws on the controls and add expo to calm it down ? Reason i am asking is that i am looking for a relatively cheap plane to practise my flying in the park on my own on those days that i can not go to the field to practise with an instructor. I have a Turbo Timber Evo to fly in the club but it would be a shame to wreck that plane in private practise. The Eratix is relatively cheap and easy to assemble when compared to other similar planes and it also offers AS3X and safe to get out of trouble. Would appreciate your opinion on this.
Between this and the Eflite Ultrix 600, which one do you like better and would actually buy for yourself? I have the Eratix on backorder so who knows when those will come in. I started looking at this Ultrix 600 to have in the meantime because I want something wacky and weird to fly. So, I'm wondering if I should just get the Ultrix 600, too. It's not THAT expensive. LOL
Totally different experience. The Extra 300 is more of a scale plane with 3D capabilities, while this is a 3D plane through and through. It's just a different feel. Also this is only 860mm, while the Extra 300 is 1.3m - so a lot bigger.
Tried to update my NX8 this week and the update has been pulled. Support says they found some issues with the update and had to pull it back. Just wondering when you updated and have you see any issues?
The 3.07.14 came out on the 3rd. They found a flaw causing the screen to turn green, Red, or Yellow or all three colors at once with the big word WARNING on it and it could not be removed. On the 6th they put out another update 3.07.17 to fix the problem but that was a swing and a miss. On the 8th Spektrum told me they now understood the problem and believed they had a fix for it and would release it as soon as they proved it worked. These guys know what they are doing so have confidence it will be resolved. DO NOT try to go back to 3.06. They say this can cause other problems. Bob
She can't tell when I am, and I was having a hard time negotiating around her. We understand the importance, and don't take offense, but sometimes it comes across way worse in the videos. It's all about getting moved as quick as possible. Megan is a trooper ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC oh I know man. It's just we all get ticketed watching you guys. The wife and son have a joke where they have you as this big mean guy to his family off camera. We know your not. Just jokingly.
Hi Brian I am determined to learn to fly so I bought an NX8 and I am looking at the BNF Apprentice 1..2m however they are on backorder everywhere, but the 1.5m BNF Apprentice is in stock and on Black Friday deal $80 off which makes it $10 cheaper than the 1.2m. Should I wait for the 1.2 since it is smaller and the batteries are cheaper, or just go for the 1.5m? I have a Toyota Tacoma so transporting either isn't really an issue, but I do like the smaller for storage and I am not in a super hurry to get a plane because the weather is nasty here in the PNW. I guess what I am asking is does the 1.5 offer any great advantage? Or would waiting for the 1 2 be a better option
Personally, I would get the 1.5 meter, I have the 1.2 meter and the battery for the 1.2 meter is not very good for other planes it’s size. I do like the blue coloration on the 1.2 meter though. I think you should choose what you want!
I like my 1.2M apprentice very much and recommend it over the aeroscout. I have not tried the 1.5M so nothing to add there. The 1300mah battery also works very well in the 50mm EDF's from HH and Arrows.
Been flying the apprentice for 7yrs.the 1.5flys great on a 2200mah 3cell.regularly fly 12 min each battery and the 2200 is lighter, better for pattern and loops.be sure to move if full forward to get proper cg and handling.3200 is heavy and gets same fly time but less maneuverable.
Would this be calm enough to fly at our indoor events???? Oh nevermind I just gotvto the part of the video where you talk about indoor flights lol. I'll just keep watching. Lol.
E-flite F-14 twin 40mm edf THE MISSING BIRDY!!! Hello Brian, I apologize in advanced. I have watched many many of your videos, I literally never noticed I was not subscribed! I've fixed that now. I've watched more of your videos than anyone else's you have had or have every bird I've ever had and still hunt for today! I've done many of the mods you have, some of them actually many of them without knowing you did a full video on them already. I'm pretty diehard eflite and UMX so every UMX I've had already as well and I just rejoined the hobby about 24mo ago now so tons of hunting, many of the birds I discovered on your channel and had to find. I've Shipped dozens of these in the last 2 years as I'm in Alaska and just about all the really cool ones are disco'd. Also had Draco, sold it! Not happy I will have to replace it now. I'm really hoping to push a UMX Draco onto HH can you imagine that! Can you imagine the sales of a UMX Draco Horizon Hobby if you hear this!!!! UMX Draco with full detail like the 182 or Carbon Cub SS so clear canopy, obviously the new 3S system compatible 8-900mm Wingspan with flaps lights UMX Draco would be unstoppable! And while we're on it Let's get a Scrappy and the Lancair Patey built Turbulence!!!! Okay back on track......Brian can you help me and I'm sure all of your viewers answer this question. Where is the missing Birdy??? The eflite F14 twin 40mm edf ....... It looks like you can buy it everywhere, you see HH promo videos maybe 2 of em and it looks available everywhere all online stores but where is the birdy? It's not online...... no review videos! Thank you Brian and I am for sure officially subscribed now. Thank you so much!!
This plane looks fun but for over $200 it’s a total insult. It’s maybe a $75 product. You can buy other foam 3D planes in the $100 realm. The price point makes me think Horizon thinks we’re fools. I’ll be passing on this model. I’d grab a Motion RC Skynetic Yak 54 over this in a heartbeat. Great video regardless.
All the good flat foamies to build will cost over 200 more like 250 for the same size class without a rx (twisted hobbies, multiplex, jta innovations). Sure you could build a value hobbies one for cheap but the components are terrible. The features this has alone and the convenience I think it’s at a competitive price point.
Oh and I'm also asking every channel I watch many, I'm sure all of them you are aware of as well the channels I mean. I'm asking everyone from the TH-cam folks like yourself that are neck deep in the hobby and have been forever so, sailors, two brothers, rc geek and many many more I've already asked and will get to. Where is the missing birdy???? Eflite F14 twin 40mm. It's completely missing and nothing from HH guys. And one more time, full scale detail UMX Draco could you imagine???? And a Scrappy with the twin extendable slats, this plane should be Draco size but if you want to throw in a UMX awesome just do a Draco 1st then a turbulence. Thank you Brian

That's a lot of trim. Was your battery too far forward, maybe???
No, preflight CG test was perfect, but will adjust the battery position and see what happens.
Very cool. Great flights Brian.
Nice to see that the plane arrestor cables (power lines) have gone..... great plane........greetings from dow nunder.
Got the last one at hobbytown locally! Yaaaaay!

Already have one on pre-order. Thanks for the video, was hoping to see more information on it.
Great review and flying. Foamies are one of the best planes to practice 3d with. I like epp foamies better as they are easier to repair. These depron ones just explode. I may have to try one. Like the looks and setup.
Yes!
The people are great, every age group nothing but a great time from 9am till well after midnight!
i am surprised the foam snapped at the wheel pant, makes it seem like it breaks vs bend like EPP foam planes.
It does haha it will explode on big impact. You can't beat epp bud
Awesome 👍🏻 Nice flying Brian 🔥👍🏻✌🏻
Looks like it cracked the front of the fuselage after your bout with the poll in the gym... Did it crack and did u put glue on it before you did the outside flight?
Yes, when I hit the pole in the gym I broke two small pieces on the nose. Had it glued in like 10 seconds, and kinda forgot about it ;)
3d foamies are the best for practicing maneuvers.
Thanks, and YES, you got Megan right (loads of spellings, but you got it right)/
As for night flying, we loved doing that with our previous Flat Foam planes, and it was a blast!!!
So on the DXS is there a way to set model profiles using the pc link cable? I'm not sure if I want to go all out on an NX8 just yet.
I did it all wrong I started flying and instantly learned low bush flying and then jumped into 3d.....glad I did but it was so wrong to do...lot of ”learning experienceS" lol but I love it
yes, some people start in different areas of the hobby, but whatever gets you from where you are to where you want to be is game in my book!
Where did you end up with the CG? The manual is confusing because it counts the very outside as the leading edge and it seems like it’s really too far back. It puts the CG point just in front of the rear wing mounts.
Lol, I just got to the indoor portion of your video where you show exactly where your CG is. Feel free to ignore me!
How to set up thrust reverse, it's on radio or ESC? Thanks!
Both. You can see this setup on the UNBOX, BUILD, RADIO SETUP video, which is in this playlist ;)
@11:00 What happened up front? There's a noticeable white crack across the whole nose. LOL
Never mind. Got my answer @20:00. Ha, ha...
LOL ;)
Always Awesome Brian, Love your channel , Love your content always Fun ! Your fan for Life ! Keep um coming and I will keep on buying !
Hey Brian - great piloting as always. If I wanted to build one using my own parts, what kind of foam board is the plane built out of?
This is a foam board material, but I can't say exactly, since I don't have time to build these. They are all over the world wide web, but they're a few hour build, and some fun too, but just not for me ;)
Use epp if you are doing your own bud. Much easier to repair than this foam
- Jeff
Quick question about the ar630. Do you have to have a transmitter that can do forward programing to program it? Or can you program it another way?
Thanks you.
Why do you need to do updates on radio? What changes with the new updates?
Ah man, been waiting for your review on this..
cool plane and info,great flying
I'm putting LEDs on mine when it arrives
Awesome! When you get ready to put LED's on this plane, just now seeing your comment (my apologies) from 10 months ago...so sorry! You can steal power from the BIND port, or from the servo wires, if you wish...both would already be current limited, thus you may or may not need a current limiting resistor.
like like this channel is my favorite
Hey, just FYI, this plane doesn't use the smart battery tech as far as I know. I soldered on an xt30, the center pin for spectrum batteries is unused. Just subscribed btw! Thanks for the vids!
You can get "dumb" battery data too, with some of these SMART esc / SMART rx pairings. I think this one is capable wither way. The DATA lead is not necessarially needed, but can be used for per cell voltages on some of the SMART setups.
Thanks for being here with us Jeff!
Cool nice work. 👍
LOL
The Ultrix is a totally different flying experience, but not like a PLANE...so kinda apples to oranges.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Okay, so given the exact same flying conditions, which one do you find to be more fun to fly?
My NX10SE has been giving me the same warning. No word from Spektrum yet. Have you fixed it yet? Thanks
Gotta get one... soon
How is this plane vs the extra 300?
Totally different experience. The Extra 300 is more of a scale plane with 3D capabilities, while this is a 3D plane through and through. It's just a different feel. Also this is only 860mm, while the Extra 300 is 1.3m - so a lot bigger.
Hello Brian😁🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Bob
Brian throwing you a challenge hand launch and hand catch (no time limits see if you can do it.)
Great flick, but um uh,,,,Camera Crew pick a side? 😁 my wife would have socked me.
Mantaap .
Its super ,Airplane😁😁😁😁😁
Would this be calm enough to fly at our indoor events???? Oh nevermind I just gotvto the part of the video where you talk about indoor flights lol. I'll just keep watching. Lol.
It would fly in our living room, if I was good enough ;)
"and I'm not a 3D pilot" he always says...
I'm not though! It's one of my weakest skill sets, but I still enjoy it from time to time.
Just got my timber x 1.2 I’m so excited to crash it 🤣
E-flite F-14 twin 40mm edf THE MISSING BIRDY!!!
Nice! Man you smack your thumb, hope that wasn't during the build!
The first thing id do to that plane is spray paint the entire lower half WHITE
🙃
:)
Bro how do you find such a supportive wife?
I guess I was just blessed ;)
Nice plane, silly price
Sorry, 3.07.14 then 3.07.17
Thanks Bob!!! I need to double check I got it fixed. Thanks for the heads up!
Hi
Wow these planes are getting too expensive....
Everything is getting too expensive! Planes are just one of way too many items in our lives that are getting hit by inflation ;(
you should test the durability, crash it!!
Why do you fly so far away from yourself? I 3D within twenty feet of me 90% of the time. Just sayin'. Still, gave you a "like".
Should definitely just get two Skynetic planes instead, imo.
Absolutely the worst plane you've ever flown
How?
The plane isn't meant to be pretty its meant to be fun to the person flying it, which it is
@@Salty_Ocean Maybe he's talking about the price point. Yikes.
