Take from someone who live right under the anomaly... It is very real, in the summer we get UV radiation warnings in local news, it is common as rain is common. We need to stay away from the sun from 8:00 to 16:00, during this time we can't stay on the sun for more than 15 min. And this isn't something new to us down here, since the 90's we get this warnings and know about the anomaly, it get tonthe point we're start to develop plates on our skin.

I’ve done some research about the anomaly, but the web articles don’t say anything about life on earth being wiped out. However, if this anomaly grows bigger by each century, it could be a big problem as more energetic particles and radiation enters are atmosphere.

@@jacob4920 I watched a PBS Nova documentary from many years ago on pole flips and that by studying ancient volcanic rock that formed millions of years ago you could determine the state of the Earth's magnetic field and where magnetic north was at the time of the cooling of the lava. Some lava that cooled during pole shifts showed significant changes in magnetic north. IIRC some cases 10 degrees of shift in a single day. The problem with a pole flip seemed to be that during the flip, the Earth's magnetic field could drop in strength to around 10%. That's catastrophic...for us. Further, during a flip, there could be multiple poles as the molten core positive and negative magnetism is in flux creating pockets around the planet in different places. So you could potentially have 6 poles instead of 2. Just like now, over each pole the magnetic field is weakest and if you happened to be under one, you likely wouldn't survive long unless you were underground. But if the entire field strength drops to 10-15% everywhere then you simply can't be on the surface whether you're in a temporary polar region or not. Another factor is possible geological or volcanic activity resulting from this as well as the potential for tsunamis hitting coastal areas. It was suggested some of these tsunamis could be larger than any we've seen in modern times. If that's not enough, the requirement to be underground would make sustainability near impossible without pre planning. Animals remaining on the surface may be a bit less affected than humans but many would likely get sick and die anyway and best case they become confused and die from that. I also doubt you'd want to consume an animal that had absorbed tons of solar radiation. I really have little idea how agriculture would be affected except that it's near impossible to do underground at any reasonable level without lots of equipment and power. I guess the bottom line is that if you're right, technical extinction may not occur but we could expect the extinction of society and our civilization as we know it now. I'd love any actual scientist to come along and add details or correct any mistakes in what I said; it's been a while since I watched that Nova documentary. I find it interesting that that documentary was made in either late 90s or early 2000s and we've seen nothing of its kind since. Even in the documentary they were obviously trying to downplay the ramifications of such an event to not scare people.

Well the magnetic fields are due to flip at some point in a few thousand years, which is one reason we are seeing this weakening.
