  • Today we are back at Bill Martinson's place to finish up the new home for his famous Common Snapping Turtle, Snappy. This new home is designed to allow him to thrive in an ecosystem that will make him very happy for years. Bill and Snappy's friendship goes back over 30 years now! Unlike other common snapping turtles that you should never attempt to touch, with Snappy, you can pet him as much as you'd like, which makes him one of a kind.

Man, I can totally understand how easy it is to fall in love with snappy. Near the end of your talk he had turned around and was looking right into his humans eyes... There's a different kind of intelligence about reptiles but it's no less than for animals we have an easier time relating to. Just amazing stuff :))

I agree, there is a lack of worry and an acceptance of 'this is how it is' i see in reptile eyes a lot. It's like, a ignorant is bliss mixed with wisdom vibe to me.

I thought you were going to let him stay outside so he can hybernate according to his natural rhythms. The amount of moisture that huge pond is created in that garage is going to cause mold to grow on the drywall! That will kill! I am suffering from mold exposure from a 16 year employment in a nursing home with a leaking roof! It had all the usual ventilation systems too! Staff were always reassured that there was not a mold problem. But my exposure to it exceeded my body's ability to detox it and now i am forced into early retirement and the administration still denies mold problems in that building!

No, i think it legitimately doesn't want to. Snapping turtles may only snap for food or self defense. This one has no fear of humans and in the video they explain it is just getting active. Cold blooded animals need heat to gradually get active and to digest. So, it has no fear of humans, it is just waking up, and it isn't hungry. No need to spend any energy snapping.
