I just had a jack on a Roland ba-330 get stuck. Unfortunately, the springs on these Jack’s do not have the helpful slot that allows you to yank it out easily, as in this video. I had to push it in through the front. It worked, but it’s a PITA. In five years this is the first Jack to go bad, so I’m going to hope that the rest don’t, but if another one goes, I’m going to yank them all out.
The other problem with these latches I found out the hard way on a board design of my. If you mix these connectors with other connectors such as RCA's etc it is almost impossible to get the connector tabs through the opening in the chassis without twisting and in some cases snapping the PCB. I had to snap off the tabs because I did not how to remove the latches without breaking them. I replaced them with non latched parts but this trick would have been good to know at the time :( If you are only using the latched XLR's and no other connector type then installation into a chassis should not be a problem.
I have no luck with this. Do I need to remove the lower part to remove the ”push lever?” My jacks also do not have the little hole on the lower part as yours. I got Neutrik. Help!
That advantage is that these latches can fail and cause your XLR cable connectors to get stuck in the desk (or other equipment using the same type of connectors). Once that happens, disassembly of the device is required to remove the stuck cable/connector. I've noticed many companies like Whirlwind never use those latches on their XLR females.
This is correct, I've serviced quite a few latches that have failed, but it always happens with low quality combo jacks or with low quality no-name XLR connectors. Often it's combination of two low quality connectors and some man-handling. So it's a good precaution to take if you're worried, but with good quality metal neutrik connectors on both cable and he panel, there's no real danger of this happening. I've had equipment that's been used on gigs for 15+ years with original Neutrik connectors still in place and working just fine. :)
Thanks for the explanations. I was wondering if this was a common practice. Funny that you mention the Neutrik jacks. We got two QSC KW152 loudspeakers (that sound frickin' amazing) for our high school marching band with Neutrik XLR combo jacks on them. The students have already broken two of them! Just goes to show that even high quality equipment is no match for the reckless obliviousness of teenagers :-D. Luckily, replacement Neutrik jacks are only around 5 bucks.
@@Mtaalas I've had this happen with quality equipment, specifically Neutrik. Failure rates are probabilistic. It's bound to happen to someone, sometime, so the "danger" is real. That said, it's no big deal if it does happen. To remove the stuck connector, only the disassembly of the cable is required.

How do you get them back in? Mine has come out of my floor unit, presumably cos someone stepped on it.
How bout a disassembly video of the X32 itself to get to the inside?
